A true home (moon 8, rigging, afternoon, open)

Postby Yasuki Himiko » Sat Aug 27, 2011 4:57 pm

With the Jade Sun high in the sky, Yasuki Himiko, ever in an explorative mood, began climbing the rigging of the ship. For someone who was from a clan that liked walls, the young Yasuki seemed to take to the heavy ropes like the quintessential carp in water. If anyone could see her face as she moved up towards the Crow's nest, they would see the look of someone who could not possibly be happier.

About three-fourths of the way to the crow's nest, she stopped on one of the ropes and looked around, taking in the scenery with a feeling of pure awe.

Sayuri, pauses to roll out the kinks in her back and neck that her cramped berth had created. She'd been trying to work them out since morning, and suspected that she'd be continuing to do so for her entire assignment unless she moved to sleeping on the deck. As her head rolls back with a pop that was likely audible halfway across the deck, she spots Himiko in the rigging and grins.

"Can ya still see land from up there?"

Himiko looked down, spotting the large woman below her. "Yeah, sure I can! But the sea is a far more pleasant view!" She starts the not-so-slow process of climbing down the rigging towards the woman. "Land is all the same *grunt*, nothin' but rocks an' buildings. Sea is far more interestin'."

Shading her eyes to look out across the water, Sayuri grins. "Endless waves are more interesting than endless rocks and buildings?"

"No need to leave yer view. I can climb up," she sets one hand to the ropes, "or shout if the rigging won't support me. These ships are so much lighter than most I've been on."

"Any day!" She shouts, stopping as the other crab allows her to. "Riggings should hold even a big girl like you up wit' no problem! Still, if the ships you've been on have been heavier than this, that means you've been on one of the great turtle ships?!" Hopeful curiosity seemed to enter into her tone.

"Hai." She only takes a moment before tightening her grip and swinging up into the ropes and spars, bare feet gripping as she climbed. "Done a tour or two in them. Mostly right around the wedding for some reason...maybe cause it was closer to home and someone thought that'd make sense." Her tone is unconcerned with why she'd pull a lighter duty for a time.

She comes up even to the other Crab and pauses, realizing she hadn't even given a name. "Oh...Hida Sayuri. Pleased t'meet ya."

"Yasuki Himiko," the smaller crab says with a grin, "Student of the Kobo Ichi-Kai techniques. It's a pleasure, Cousin." Himiko takes a moment to study the woman before she speaks again. "So what was it like bein' on one of the turtle ships? I've always wanted the chance to be on board one."

"Way you climb, I thought you must've served on one yourself." She lets her feet find a spar and takes some weight from the rope and her shoulders. "Sea air is cleaner by far than you get serving at the Wall, and there's proper-sized berths there."

One large hand waves to take in the rest of the ship, then smooths her hair primly back in place. The wind promptly undoes her work. "This all seems so delicate after bein' on those...and faster. Those sort of lumber through the waves instead of cutting through them as we're managing. Lot more rolling about."

"I'd never have guessed where you trained, if you hadn't told me. You're way prettier than those I've met." She pauses..."I've only met two, but they both looked like they'd broken their noses on someone's head a few times, you know?"

"Faster might not be too bad, neh? Sometimes I wish this weren't a legion boat, though. Hard to fully emulate Fumoki-sama's life when yer on a kobune like this." The grin on her face made it hard to tell if she was joking or not.

"Most think I'm one of dem Yasuki Courtiers if I don't say anything up front. I tend not to headbutt a whole lot of people. Does nothin' but disorient you, gives yer opponent an opening. As fer the lack of scars... hell if I know on that side of the equation. You'd think with how I've killed some people there'd be somethin' somewhere."

"Why'd you want to follow the life of Fumoki? He was a pirate right? Or is there some other Fumoki that's famous?" She sways with the ship, still smiling, though it was a bemused sort of grin. "Still, faster is fun. It gets the wind up fierce, doesn't it?"

"Nah, never seen any courtier run around just in their chest wraps. I'd expect somethin' fancier of 'em, even on a ship."

Something shifted in her expression, her eyes searching out the horizon, away from the Yasuki's gaze as she swayed absently with the ship's movement. "Some people? Suppose that was in the fightin' round the capitol not far back?"

Himiko grinned devilishly at her inquisition regarding Fumoki. "No, no, that's the one. Sailin' can be exciting without havin' ta prey on innocent ships, though. That's more of what ah'm hopin' fer."

With the mention of fighting, she shook her head. "Nah, I'm not that old yet. I was more thinking about the conflicts regardin' mah family name. Kami be praised that those issues finally got worked out, even if it weren't how we'd have liked it done."

"Oh hai, there's excitement in plenty. There's storms at the minimum to keep you hoppin'."

There is a sad shake of her head at the clarification of which battles Himiko'd been in. "That's worse isn't it? Fightin' kin that way. Hope it's done once-n-fer-all now. Lost father in the earlier bout of that mess what ended with yer family shared."

"Not ta speak ill o'the honorable dead. But I never understood why they didn't get an heir quick as could be with such a setup. Without one? Can't see any other way but fightin' that could have gone."

She shrugs. "Ain't my place to think of those things. As long as it's over and I can focus on more productive works, I don't care."

She raises an eyebrow. "Doesn't take much thought after growin' up with a bunch of kids punchin' each other over way less important stuff. If a claim ain't clear, there'll be fightin'." That strikes a thought and her eyes and grin are directed back at the Yasuki. "But not everyone has a small horde of siblings beatin' that lesson into em. You have any brothers or sisters?"

She shook her head, returning to her mad grin. "I suspect that my parents swore off children after me. Doubt they were expecting their little girl to end up the type to prefer breakin' peoples arms to flowers and pretty dresses."

Sayuri blinks rapidly, jaw dropping in some sort of shock. "I..but...You can actually look *good* in them. I mean, no matter how I adjust 'em, I kind of look like I got wrapped in a tent that got blown off it's stakes, but you'd look great in any of 'em!" One hand brushes at her very practical, very dull, grey cotton pants.

"Yeah, people keep tellin' me that. Just ain't me, though. Those clothes are too constrictin'. I mean, come on, how are you supposed to fight when ye've got an Obi tied so tightly that if ye move with a little excitement ye might break your ribs?"

"Well ya don't wear that stuff for fightin', right? It's like for teahouses and weddings...or if you're actually invited to winter court someplace fancier than a Hida keep." There's a touch of wistfullness to her voice at the last item, though it vanishes quickly enough as she continues."

"Anyway, if you break yer ribs on an obi, yer ribs are too soft. Need to work on that." Her grin is as good as a teasing jab to the ribs.

"Oh, I dunno. Choked my cousin unconscious with m'sleeves at my wedding." Balancing with one arm looped about a rope, she pantomimes the remembered brawl. "A bit of fightin's expected. But keep it away from the serving area...no sense wastin' good food and drink."
