"Hell if I know," she said with a shrug. "Hida Musasha-san mentioned it on the first day out. I assume it's legit, he knows the Sea better than I. Besides, could you imagine if I managed to rip one o' those things outta the water? I'd get bragging rights at the Kobo dojo for a month!"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi grinned. "I suspect Hida-san might have been pulling your leg. But, I suppose there's no reason not to hope."

[Yasuki Himiko]

Himiko's brow furrowed and her mouth scrunched into a cute little pout. "Whaddya mean pullin' my leg?"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

"An example: when I first entered the cloisters at Shinden Asahina, one of the senior novices told me that Master Shimotsuke had a vestigial tail. I learned later that that was a scheme to mislead me." He shrugged. "I think Hida-san might have played a small joke on you and Iuchi-san. On the other hand, my experience may be limited, and the tentacle monster only frequents these southern climes."

He made the universal 'who knows?' gesture.

[Yasuki Himiko]

Himiko shrugged. "I don't think Hida-san would deceive us like that. 'sides, when ye've seen the shit that comes at the wall, Tentacle monster sounds pretty tame." She then begins limbering up again, then holds her hands up in her jiujutsu stance, throwing some punches.

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi elects to return to the simple strength training, considering that's what he has the most trouble with. It is rather difficult for him, mostly because of breathing issues, but he seems to be making progress.

[Akodo Jishaku]

Fuichi frowned. "I would hardly be standing around, Akodo-san. The air can be a useful ally, particularly at sea, and I am no stranger to defensive applications to most of my prayers."

The Lion shakes his head. "You misunderstand me friend. I have seen how useful your spellcasting can be, remember Isawa-gunso's lessons on boarding actions? My point is that there may come a time when you have run out of spells, or need to save them for something more tactically important. In a drawn-out engagement there may be no time to rest and regain your energies. So learning how to be useful in a fight without putting yourself at unneccessary risk is to everyone's benefit."

He listens to the tales of tentacle monsters with a wry smile and a raised eyebrow.
