[Day 1] Early Morning - Discipline (Closed)

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"I am going to assume that the passage through the Sea of Shadows has left you over-wrought Daidoji-san," comes the man's even reply, "And will not lecture a priest regarding the Celestial Order and expectations of behavior. I am, by nature, not a philosophical man."

Uminushi leans back in his seat, blue gaze unwavering, "But, to answer you question... if one of my recruits were to hold a grudge against one of my heimen due to an accident beyond his control, not report the incident to me for resolution, sow unrest with the remainder of my crew and then assault said heimen... well, then, Daidoji-san, I would have him flogged and bumped down to the status of conscript if not outright strip him of his commission and have him dishonorably discharged from the Imperial Legion with recommendations to his Daimyo to assign him to the backwaters of their Family lands."

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi inclined his head.

"With respect, Captain, that was not my question. The double standard is not that Dageki is being punished as a heimin. This is just, even if the method is counter to my family's teachings. The double standard is that Dageki has been justly punished, but I have not been for my role in causing Touhi's concussion and, by extension, this entire mess. Therefore, it would seem that a heimin can be punished for impugning the honor of a samurai, and rightly so, but a samurai can cause grievous injury to a crew member without penalty. That was not my impression of how things are done in the Imperial Navy."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Are you saying you intentionally dropped a half-finished statue of Isora upon Touhi-san's head?" he asks in that even and reasonable voice. "And that you confess to knowingly giving false testament of the events that passed?"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi bowed his head. "I am not, but the fact remains that my weakness is the cause of this...disharmony."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Then your punishment is to carry the responsibility of Dageki-san's death upon your spirit." Uminushi continues with that neutral, unsmiling expression "Unless, of course, Daidoji-san wishes to confess to controlling Dageki-san's actions and words through foul magics."

[Daidoji Fuichi]

His head snaps up, eyes widened, plainly horrified. "Of course not! That would be blasphemous in the extreme. And...and I accept my punishment. It, too, is just."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Good. Now, I suggest that none of you approach either Dageki-san or Touhi-san in the next few days," he turns back to his gunso, "Is there anything else I need to address O-washi-san?"

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Only the matter of which of us tells Dageki, Captain."

O-washi's gaze never once wavered from his Captain.

"As the officer who first arrived on the scene of this mess, I feel somewhat responsible for handling it's aftermath. AfterI show this lot the right piping calls, of course."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"See to it, I'll talk with Touhi-san before I hit the futon." with a grunt the man pushes out of his seat and makes a brusque gesture, "Dismissed."

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi bowed on reflex and drifted from the room, his soul heavy.

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi followed suit, saluting his captain before moving off toward the bow. "All of you lot, come with me for a minute. I'm going to show each of you part of the right signal and then you're going to send someone up to the Nest to borrow the whistle from the watch. I want this done before any of you go about any other duties you might have."

[Daidoji Fuichi]

"Hai, gunso."

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki nods in understanding.

[Shinjo Qulan]

Qulan nodded quietly. "Hai, Isawa-gunso."

[Isawa O-Washi]

It turned out that the language of signals could be a lot more complex than the initial lessons that the big man had given had let on. It was, he explained, an outgrowth of the language of signal drums used by some of the more remote mountain communities of the Dragon who, when snowed in every winter, had little other way to communicate.

To Fuichi, he assigned the part of the message which called for two ashigaru to be sent.

To Qulan, he assigned the clarification that one should be an archer, the other a 'repeller'.

Finally to Rinzuki went the task of requesting room be made for a grieving sister of a man soon dead.

Then it was Fuichi again, who got to round out the message with a list of Touhi's skills.

Once each message was explained, repeated, and the rhythms demonstrated by O-washi's large hands tapping out a rhythm on the aft railing, he left them to get the whistle down however they saw fit.

"Take some time. It wouldn't do for Dageki to learn his fate from the pipe before he learns it from his crew. A candlemark at least before you pipe it, then go on about your assigned duty for the day. Now, I've a duty of my own."

Presuming no questions were forthcoming, O-washi left for the aft stairwell, his expression resigned.
