[Day 1] Early Morning - Discipline (Closed)

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Did you take insult from Dageki-san's behavior or words?" came the calm question as he sipped from his cup of kava.

[Shinjo Qulan]

Qulan lightly shook her head. "Not personally, no..."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"But...?" he prompts.

[Shinjo Qulan]

"... Well, at the time I didn't even understand what he was saying... But, it doesn't matter. I'm more emabarrassed than anything." Qulan sighed to herself. Sweet Lady Shinjo, I'm stupid.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

Uminushi frowns from behind his cup and arches a brow, "...embarrassed?"

[Shinjo Qulan]

"He said something about 'fishing' and 'clams' that I mistook for the literal sense of both words..." The Shinjo looked down at her hands like they were the most entertaining thing in the world. "I didn't understand at the time..."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

The Captain set the empty cup down on the bench and studies Qulan with a frown. There was trouble brewing here, which he couldn't quite put his finger on. He shook his head and nodded towards the other two, "Stand there and be quiet."

One of the last to be called to his quarters was his gunso, O-washi. It was starting to get crowded in the room.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Looking almost as exhausted as his Captain, O-washi came as ordered straight from his night on watch. Blinking owlishly, he was still quick to bow to the assorted group and salute Uminushi. "Ohayou, Captain. This would be about the disturbance, I imagine?"

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Aye," comes the mild confirmation. Uminushi drops on to the bench once more, elbows coming to rest on his knees as he watches the Phoenix, "Neither Daidoji-san nor Shinjo-san wishes to bring charges against Dageki-san, however it has been brought to my attention by Iuchi-san that Dageki-san committed a blasphemous breech in etiquette in regards to his speech to her person..."

His blue eyes flick towards the two Unicorn, looking for confirmation as he addresses them, "Correct?"

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

"The heimin's words were crude, vulgar, and unclean, but not blasphemous," Rinzuki clarifies.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Thank you for that clarification," he turns back to O-washi, a brow arching as he continues in a neutral tone, "Iuchi-san has suggested Dageki-san be sent on to his next cycle in light of his insubordination, inability to keep his temper and lack of civility towards his betters. Do we have any others in the fleet who can take his place as budoka?"

[Isawa O-Washi]

"In terms of seniority, Touhi's served longest. Given the relationship between her and Dageki, though, I doubt she'll be fit for much of anything, much less leadership. Frankly, Captain, if we execute him now instead of beating the life mostly out of him and letting him live until he can be replaced at the next port, we're losing two ashigaru, not just the one."

Blue eyes, which were going stormy, narrowed in thought.

"Higyou's next most senior and he's training up well and all but he's barely man grown. He lacks the skill we need as far as training goes, though he can learn it. Unless one of the new recruits has more skill with a stave than I've yet observed, teaching how to repel a boarding attempt is going to be problematic...I can get by for brief stints by asking the kami to craft one but my skill is less than Dageki's in such matters...better than Happy's, though."

Rubbing his goatee, he offered, "You could, I suppose, ask Soyoko-Chui if he can spare the replacements from his ship. With so many shugenja and healers being trained on the Moon, we can't just expect to lose half the ashigaru and not suffer for it if combat comes."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

Uminushi runs a hand through his damp hair as he thinks. He nods once, making a decision. "Touhi-san will need to be transferred then and two replacements made from Soyoko-san's ship. Dageki-san will be executed when we make landfall in three days time so we may dispose of his remains properly."

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi simpply nodded, somewhat saddened yet unsurprised by this choice. "Want me to pipe up Soyoko-Chui or should we send Junpei-san to deliver the full details of what we need directly?"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi's heart plummeted as the decision was made, and even the years of careful conditioning in the monasteries of Shinden Asahina could not keep him from frowning.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Pipe it," he replies evenly, "Specifically, teach these three the signals."

His gaze cuts towards the three silent recruits with an unreadable look. Uminushi quirks a brow as he notices Fuichi's frown, "Do you have something to say, Daidoji-san?"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi blinks once. "You have made it clear that I should not."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

Patience. Uminushi displayed a surprising talent for it as he calmly explained to the Crane, "And I just gave you the opportunity to speak your thoughts. Do you wish to waste it?"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi met the captain's eyes, his serenity once more restored
"I am...disturbed by this outcome. It is needlessly inharmonious with both the tenor of the event and the needs of the crew. It has also been passed, and therefore I will accept it as is my Duty."

A breath.
"However, I believe it also creates a double standard. What is the punishment for a samurai who endangers the life of one of the heimin crew?"

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki gives the Asahina a strange look, but holds her tongue for the time being.
