Moon 12, Afternoon, Foredeck: I spy (CRANE)

[Asahina Masamichi]

With what seems to be a practiced motion, the Asahina removes his nunchaku from his obi while mentally selecting a suitable line, then fliips the nunchaku over the line and slides down to deck with a bit of a heavy landing. Hardly the picture of eligance or athleticism, but a good example of practiced functionality.

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi cocks his head. "Hmmm..." Turning back to the gunso. "Will Asahina-san need to return for the rest of the lesson, or shall I show him my notes later?"

[Asahina Masamichi]

The Asahina tucks his nunchaku away and begins to make his unsuccessful first attempt to climb. Then finally getting it on his second try.

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi was snickering in amusement as the Asahina made a premature departure. "Oh, I think he'll be back up eventually."

Sobering somewhat, his attention turned fully to the Daidoji again, his tone soft so the other man wouldn't hear. "I hope I didn't make you too uncomfortable before. Charming as a blush may be, it can come from discomfort as well as enjoyment of a compliment. I'm not good at reading people so if I should ever go to far, just slap me or something."

The grin returned, full force.

"Fortunes' know, you can't be harsher than Moshi-sama's been when she felt I needed correcting in mood or behavior. I swear she cracked my tailbone once, so hard did she boot my in a backside."

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi shook his head. "No, it was not uncomfortable. Isawa-sama is very charming." The look in Fuichi's eyes made it pretty clear that 'charming' wasn't the only positive quality he saw in Isawa O-washi. "I just hope to be able to show you that I am not only a pretty face, though knowing that you find me so is by no means an unwelcome realization."

[Isawa O-Washi]

"I look forward to future exhibitions of your talents, then." This time, O-washi didn't wink, though his smile was a little teasing for a moment before he schooled it to something more bland in time for the Asahina to return.

"Now that you've gone and demonstrated one way...there's one other that any potential scout should know. I don't recommend it except in great need but if you absolutely have to get off of the nest ASAP, you can run the spar and dive into the sea from the end. Failing to make it leads to a rather nasty fall, though you can sometimes get lucky and grab the sail to slow yourself as you go down."

[Kakita Sugita]

Getting in a bit late, the Kakita just catches the Daidoji call O-Washi 'charming'. Which was not really heard as they're all up there and Sugita is down here.

"Gomen. What's all this about? Did I miss something?"

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Doubtless, unless 'enlightened' was something your recruiter forgot to put on you papers." The big gunso raised a brow. "For one thing, the time you were supposed to be here. Still, you're here now...you can demonstrate the other athletic way to get off the nest in a hurry."

O-washi smiled benignly.

"Once we climb down, you're going to run the spar and dive into the sea. Then these lads and I'll fish you out...good practice with what the "man overboard" signal sounds like."

[Kakita Sugita]

... Sugita looks over the side briefly. "Yes sir."

He sets down things he doesn't want to get wet, then darts off. No worries over blood on the deck as Sugita flies cleanly over the side and into the sea head first with a tiny splash.

[Asahina Masamichi]

Masamichi slides back down to the deck and gets a rope ready to toss over the side the Kakita decides to go for. He gives the Daidoji the privliage of giving the "man overboard" signal, as he tosses the rope down to Sugita.

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi moved alongside the Asahina, passing the Daidoji the whistle before taking a good grip on the rope in case his strength was needed.

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi blew in the prescribed pattern for man overboard, though he was a little unsure why the rest of the crew needed to get riled up if Asahina-san and Isawa-sama had things under control.

[Kakita Sugita]

Sugita pulls himself hand over hand until he sits on the deck with his feet dangling. Not bothering with the acting here. It's obvious the Kakita is both a capable swimmer and climber. "Thanks for the help", he says anyway.

[Isawa O-Washi]

The crew, clearly aware of the day's drill, didn't so much as leave off the tightening of sails.

O-washi nodded his approval of the maneuver. "Well done, everyone. Does anyone have any more questions before I dismiss you for the day?"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

"I understand that the scout is useful prior to battle. Sighting opposing vessels or creatures is certainly important. How does the scout serve in battle? What should he be doing before he is forced from the nest?"

[Asahina Masamichi]

Masamichi shakes his head in the negative before looking up to the Daidoji as he seemed greenest.

[Isawa O-Washi]

It was a question that he hadn't expected from the gentle priest and for a moment, O-washi's face registered surprise. Then he smiled and answered the question.

"Watching troop movements on enemy ships. There's also looking to see what sort of armaments they have, numbers, possible reinforcements...Knowledge is power in a battle and there is no better view than what one can get from a height. Our ship here is larger than most, it's a not-insubstantial advantage."

[Daidoji Fuichi]

The Daidoji nodded quietly. "I see. Thank you, gunso."

[Kakita Sugita]

"That WAS a longer fall than I'm used to", Sugita comments. Water drips onto the deck as he rings his hair and clothing out some.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"It is my pleasant duty to instruct, Daidoji-san. You're welcome to ask me questions at any time."

At the words of the rather soggy Kakita, the gunso's attention slid over, face solemn.

Then, slowly, he grinned.

"Fun, isn't it?"
