[Moshi Chihiroko]

From the moment she was born, Chihiroko has always loved the ocean. Everything from the cool water to the salty breezes blowing through the sails of whatever ship she's on. Because of her love, she tries to spend as much time as she possibly can out at sea.

Her slightly weathered skin is proof of how much she's actually gone sailing. Regardless, she takes good care of her appearance. Her hair is usually pinned up to keep it out of her eyes while she's busy working but she always has some manner of jewelry on her person. Chihiroko likes the way the sun's rays glint and sparkle off the surface. She also dresses in a manner that reminds her of being out at sea. Her clothing is usually light and airy and colors reminiscent of the ocean.

On the off-chance that she isn't doing something productive, she can be found lounging with her kiseru and a good book.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

With scars, tattoos and sun-drenched skin its clear at first glance that Yakusoku is a girl of the seas. Her well-muscled frame, a sure sign of both her Ichiro heritage and warrior training, is often garbed in the traditional garb of a sailor. A headband keeps the young woman's hair from falling into her eyes and her armor, though kept polished, bares a few scuffs from wear, tear and battle. Her hands are calloused from hard work, her voice steady and confident. Those who get a good look at her arms will see images of sea-creatures, the Fortunes, the symbols of the elements and the occasional, kanji or two. These tattoos carry up the length of her arms, her garb and armor hiding any other ink that may be present.

Those who get to know Yakusoku will find her to be boisterous and a bit of a tomboy. Quick to laugh, joke or exchange stories of the sea she isn't the type to make enemies where it can be avoided. Still, that Badger gruffness and anger simmers underneath the surface and her sharp tongue even in casual conversation suggests that if upset, she would be more than willing to speak her mind.

If given time to prepare before combat, Yakusoku applies war paint not unlike that worn by the Kuni. Her boisterous nature carries over into battle, the young woman taunting and laughing while clashing swords with her enemies.

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Daidoji Fuichi is one of the rare members of his family blessed with the ability to speak with the kami. He was given over to the Asahina after a period of stubborn denial on the part of his warrior-minded father, a captain of a major war vessel in the Daidoji navy. Though his father and mother raised him to love the sea, he has devoted himself to his role as a priest of the Fortunes. It shows in his appearance. While both of his brothers have become broad-shouldered, loud, athletic giants, Fuichi is slender, somewhat retiring, and more beautiful than handsome.

Needless to say, his father was not pleased with the results of his training. A few strings pulled here, a few threats leveled there, and Fuichi has found himself on an Imperial Man-o'-War, more than a little uneasy with his situation. Still, surrounded by the sea and the strong kami of the air that dance above it, nothing can go wrong.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

A Scorpion on a ship would find it rather hard to blend into the background, even if one did their best with the crew. It doesn’t seem like Hoshi is putting an effort to withdraw from notice, but it could be mistaken for it from her general reserved mood and her reaction tend to be only half what they could be. Her voice is naturally subdued but she puts effort in volume when around public company so that no strains are caused in conversation. Personal quirks aside, socializing is actually something she’s not uncomfortable doing.

Hoshi has a healthy samurai-ko’s stature at above average height with a toned athletic form to match. Her long black hair is usually kept well but only organized neatly into a simple high pony tail than anything extraordinary. On duty, her hair is bound together in a collection of braids. Wicked fanged and toothy ceramic mempo-like masks are a common accessory part of her appearance, but they are only worn to the point of practicality. Without her mask, her Bayushi trademark allure is apparent, washed in a something of a subtler variation. Her sharp eyes are amber in colour and lack rest from obligations of her home occupation.

On board the ship, she favours clothes with the most coverage and fitting close to her form to avoid any loose fabric that could weight her down.

[Usagi Zenko]

Usagi Zenko is young and he seems to be skittish of nearly everything. Not of people for example, but he will almost never voluntarily be the one to stand next to the railing in case something goes wrong. He shows the traits of the Usagi and of those who are used to living under trees for most of their life. Or in a castle. Or anywhere that wasn't Ocean. He takes care to be clean shaven, and attempts to keep his top-knot tied tightly and oiled when possible.

A jade pendant might swing free from his clothing from time to time, it is carved in a simple circle and smooth. When sitting still, he will likely show some nervous tendencies. His daisho is almost always stowed below deck, although if there is time during a very serious attack on the ship, he'll get it.

Glory Checks Find Out:
Zenko's only moment of any fame comes from knocking an Otomo's palanquin over with the Otomo in it, while chasing down a thief/bandit. Normally he guards a shrine to Inari at Shiro Usagi, alongside his family of nearly all shugenja. Nearly.

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

This slim, athletic young woman is not what the Empire has come expect of a bushi of the Mantis Clan dominated by the sturdy Yoritomo family. But the confident swagger with which her bare feet carry her across deck quickly dispels any doubts that this young Wasp was born to sail the oceans.

While she's not unattractive to look upon, most are distracted by her mismatched eyes, her left eye is a normal dark brown but her right eye looks as if the kami had pricked her eye and drained it of all color. Many of her peers are seen making a ward against evil when she leaves their presence, some aren't even that polite.

She dresses in practical cotton, knee-length breeches and a sleeveless top and keeps her long, black hair tied in a simple knot and covered by a do-rag. Her yumi and quiver are never far from her side, but even when she first boarded the ship she wore no swords on her hip.

[Kakita Sugita]

Kakita Sugita is a well weathered young man yet clinging to a young man's attitude. Everything should be an adventure. There is trouble to be had, and it won't come about by being lazy. Sometimes this works perfectly in a superior's favor. If there is a definite goal that Sugita looks forward to. Other times, it can cause no end of frustration. At least Sugita is amicable about it all. If he causes trouble, he'll laugh about it, apologize, and take the punishment without complaint. Most find that softens his character. The exceptions are those who wish to punish, as the teaching effectiveness of it is a mystery. Sugita has scars upon his back to prove he has had many lessons indeed.

This young Crane's appearance is certainly unique, without catching the eye with beauty. An unmistakable, gaunt face with bushy eyebrows is just covered by loose cropped black hair. He has the typical blue eyes and cheekbones of a crane without the typical care for appearance. Sugita's frame is short and thin, sporting a small but dense musculature. He is agile as a cat and graceful as his Clan's namesake. Physically anyway. The only penchant Sugita has for flair can be seen in the silver loop ring he wears on his left ear.

The thin, rugged clothing of a mariner is as comfortable as the richest silk in Sugita's mind. When it gets wet it is all the same. Clan colors are rarely apparent. Sugita prefers greys and blacks. He'll rarely go with much skin uncovered. A sleeveless vest will be worn with a sleeved shirt under it. Armor wrist guards are almost always worn. They keep Sugita's sleeves out of the way and allow him to fire the Yumi he carries at a moment's notice. The bow is normally unstrung. A tied quiver on Sugita's back holds a number of arrows and a waterproof leather pocket where his bowstring is kept.

[Asahina Narumi]

Narumi's demeanor upon meeting her could easily be described as acquiescent. She fully believes in fate and she does not attempt to fight it in the least. Her acceptance of fate does not mean that she is unwilling or unready to act, it just means that she is more accepting of the things that result from her actions. And so she does what she can to guide those to fulfill their own fates.

Another aspect of her personality that is readily apparent is her compassion. She is a soft and kind person who is willing to go out of her way to aid others in the fulfilling of their needs. She may not be as medically minded as many other shugenja but she is as ready to provide guidance in prayer and life. She may also not be an overly strong individual but her ability to speak with the kami generally goes to protecting or enhancing other's quality of life.

[Kaiu Seiko]

Seiko has the look more of a small child than a grown woman, emphasized by her frank, honest smile and cheerful laugh. She wears her hair loose so that the wind can play with it, and her eyes sparkle. Even on land, she prefers to run around barefoot, at times being mistaken for a heimin (although she is very quick to correct them). Her attitude is pretty much carefree, although she spares little effort to hide her enthusiasm for all things marine related. It would not be hard to imagine that she has never experienced hardship before.

[Toritaka Punchiru]

Punchiru has a habit of fading into the background wherever he goes, gained from long attempts to perfect invisibility in his father's household. His voice is seldom heard unless he is addressed, but not unpleasant. He is soft, and usually well-dressed. His manner suggests that he is acquainted with the sea, but the way he looks about indicates that this is the first ship of size he has really been on.

It’s hard to say whether or not Usan has the characteristic beauty of a Scorpion, as his mask-a simple scarf of red, covers his face from the nose down. He keeps his hair tightly bound in a topknot, sometimes leaving the rest in a braid, ponytail or hood if the weather’s too windy. His voice is soft but terse, as if he’s on guard.

On land he dresses like a typical Bayushi bushi: full armor and daisho, clan colors worn proudly. On sea he usually just wears his uniform and mon, no armor or daisho, but he’ll have two sai tucked into his obi. On the very rare occasions that the ship has advance warning of an attack, he’ll be in his armor and his daisho will be tightly tied to his back. He’ll usually have his bow and quiver on him on land or sea.

[Mirumoto Itsuho]

Being an ascetic, Itsuho keeps her appearance simple. Her hair is long, usually back in a tail, black and fine. Her kimono is simple as well, usually white with a red haori, red for the blood she has shed, white for regret for the deaths that have come around her. Her mon is simple, on her breast, her Mirumoto one on her right sleeve. She is scrawny and somewhat tall for a woman, looking almost tomboyish other than her soft looking face.

Itsuho usually appears calm, almost to the point of believing her without emotion. Those that get to know her realize that she is actually quite content, almost happy, though her tone of voice and face never show it. She carries herself with an easy grace, like a true swords woman, though she lacks strong muscles or quick reflexes to back up her lean form.

[Matsu Iori]

Iori is a veteran of the War of Dark Fire, as evidenced by the burn marks found throughout all his body, including his face. He is a stern man, raised by a stern clan. This is his first stint as a Legionnaire, and he is somewhat nervous about it. He is a strict follower of Bushido, unsurprisingly. He rarely displays emotion during duty, or even off duty, though his patience and tolerance for slacking off and dishonor can be tested and tried.

He covers his chest via chest wraps, so his scars are not visible, only in a few places. He is quite muscular, as befitting a Matsu, and wears his hair short.

[Mirumoto Tomoe]

Tomoe's slim physique, pale white skin and very long black hair are most apparant from a distance. Closer, one can see she has charming features, an attractive face and natural grace. A shame that her skin and these features are perpetually hidden beneath her modest clothes, usually a simple dark blue or white kimono and dark blue hakama along with a black obi. A further pity that her piercing eyes combined with a long assessing stare often keep others quite distant. In truth she is especially beautiful but her conservative dress, attitude that appears stand-offish and her own secret grudge against the necessity of a toned body prevent her ever realising or exploiting this. She does her best to behave honourably and proper and she is usually fairly quiet, though when she does talk she can be quick to criticise others, offer lectures or take offense. Some have described her as haughty but she doesn't care - she is too busy doing her best to behave in the "right" way according to how she was taught. Her duty is everything to her; a key part of her identity that surpasses any individual desires she may have.

Still, she is not so completely flawed in social situations - she acts politely for the most part and her words are always spoken honestly and with good intentions. Occassionally she will become close enough to others that she relaxes just a bit and then her inner kindness becomes visible. Still, one cannot ignore her strong principles or her courageous attitude. She seems intent on proving something. She always carries her daisho, never leaving them in their stand except when she sleeps. Their red and gold handles combine well with the red, gold and green light armor she frequently wears. To some this appearsto possibly be a display of Scorpion Clan colours but the Mon of the Mirumoto family and school are proudly displayed on every sizeable possession she owns - including her armour and swords. Only a few long green and gold tipped cloth strips, that she uses to tie her kimono tight along with keeping her hair in a ponytail, hint at her Clan allegiance from a distance. She always carries her flute and sometimes she can be seen with a yumi for practice. She seems unusually well used to a ship for a Dragon. Her quirks include looking towards the horizon reguarly - whether inspecting it for movement or looking for the end of the world one cannot say - invoking the blessings of the fortune perhaps a touch superstitiously, giving a long assessing look at everyone she is introduced to and keeping her hand on her katana hilt when idle. Quite unusually for a samurai-ko of the Dragon, though not unheard of among the Matsu, she refers to herself in a strong masculine sense, another dent to what would otherwise be a woman who appears lovely - though seemingly only from a distance.

[Togashi Kazuma]

Kazuma has a ropey physical appearance, with tattoos on his face, chest and arms. His habit of dressing like a Togashi Monk explains why he is so often confused for one, despite his daisho. Being ascetic, he carries very little, and smiles at the show of wealth that many samurai, especially Mantis, make. It seems to him that if one needs nothing, then one can serve better, but he hold this thought privately. He's mildly attractive, if one likes tattoos, and has a calm demeanor. He is neither kind, nor a brute, friendly nor antisocial, he's just calm.

A charitable person would call Kazuma relaxed, but he can seem to be lazy. In truth, he cares little for matters that do not refer to the Ocean, or to the sword. He meditates quite frequently, though it may appear that he's napping. He will not shy away from what he is told to do, but will always complete it quickly and completely, so he'll be able to continue training. It's gained him a little undeserved reputation for dependability.

The one item that he allows himself to have is a trained falcon he calls Izo-chan. Falconry is a hobby of his, and he enjoys spending time on deck, watching his falcon fly. Though even this hobby takes a far second to matters of sword or ocean.

He enjoys teaching, and one of the few things to gain his full attention, is the chance to show someone how to improve upon their kenjutsu.

Despite his monk like appearance, he knows very little about theology, and gets irritated when asked for spiritual advice. He'll usually reply with something suitably cryptic and not helpful to the situation he's asked about.

He enjoys swimming, and other athletic pursuits, but even though he is bushi, disdains kata. He sees them as useless additions to a real fight. If one can fight with only sword, and nothing else, then one truly mastered kenjutsu.

When not on duty, or sleeping, he can usually be found in one of two places, near the prow meditation, or in the nearby vicinity of Mirumoto Tomoe.
