[Moon 11 - Foredeck] Getting a good whiff

[Amaya]

Amaya stood up near the bow, checking the front lines carefully to make sure all of the ropes were taut and there wasn't any fraying. Having just a moment before the sea hag started shouting at her again, she looked across and over the bow towards the direction they were sailing. Her nose sniffed at the air, and she half closed her eyes, trying to see if she could catch a whiff of what was coming. Something felt ... off somehow.

All of her senses told her it should have been warmer, but there was a chill in the air. The sky was all wrong for a storm, yet there was that odd tension. Tomorrow morning would bring fog, that much she could make out... but for once, everything else was a mysterious, unnerving blank.

[Yoritomo Kaito]

It was a few moments later that the young woman heard the steady steps of bare feet on wood as Kaito made his way towards the foredeck a Kiseru in his hands. As spotting the young whatever she was the mantis bowed briefly and mumbled "Mornin" Before squinting his own eyes at the horizon.

[Amaya]

Amaya was frowning visibly when the Yoritomo came up and addressed her. The second before he arrived, she had spit over the rail. Turning, she gave him the salute she'd seen given before, though her face didn't look more pleasant. "Mornin, -sama. What can I do ya for?" she said in a guttural tone, glancing back out and shaking her head at the sky up ahead.

Something's not right here..

[Yoritomo Kaito]

The mantis returns the salute his eye's looking out towards the sea. "I don't need much of nothing at the moment. I was just coming up to see how the weather looked this morn." He replied before turning back towards the woman. "Ya figure fair weather will stick with us for a bit?"

[Amaya]

"I figure Isora's being a fickle witch and the Kaze no Kami's playing a game with us. Air's too kami-bedamned cold for this time of year, -sama," she said, bobbing her head and spitting over the rail again. "Apologies, but tomorrow's looking like fog, no matter how far we're from the coast."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

The mantis nods once putting the pipe in his mouth and chewing on it thoughtfully for a few moments. "Fog doesn't bode well though hopefully it won't linger too long." He says after withdrawing the pipe not seeming to care a bit that the woman spit.

[Amaya]

"No way to know bout that a day ahead," she said, shrugging a little and frowning. "Long as the winds come in after the morning, it won't hold too long. We'll see in the morning again." She glanced out of the corner of her eye at the man, considering him. Green... that meant ... oh what the hell were their names? Were they the ones that brought a bunch of budoka in real close or was that the black and red one.... no, those were the bastards.

Bloody...

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"I suppose you are right there." Replied the mantis looking out towards the sea once again. Turning back he flashed a smile. "I don't suppose we can go about calling each other hey you forever though and as we are on the same ship we might as well know what to call each other. The names Yoritomo Kaito"

[Amaya]

"I've heard they give the peasants nicknames around here, so you might pick something up to call me later, but my name is Amaya, Yoritomo-sama," she said, making a mental note of the name. Yoritomo, yoritomo... yeah, that was the Mantis. She remembered overhearing her former lords bitch about them all the time. Something about smelly peasant-licking pirate scum-suckers... in more 'courteous' speak. Another mental note chalked the green up under the sort of filing cabinet where she could reference them. "Peasant's fine, if it comes to it, whatever Yoritomo-sama prefers."

She'd get the hang of this eventually...

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"I think Amaya-san will do for now then. It's likely to cause the least bit of problems after all." He put his pipe back in his mouth for a few more moments before continuing. "Don't Imagine you've been on this ship too much longer then us new recruits though if ya haven't got a nickname yet." He more stated then asked after a few seconds of contemplation.

[Amaya]

"Nope, Yoritomo-sama," she said with a shake of her head. "Haven't been round here any longer than the other new crew. I arrived just a few days ago, same as the rest. Was just conscripted for this maybe a week 'fore that and shipped up to the fleet."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

He nodded it was what he had figured was the case. "What do ya think of the ship Amaya-san? Been on many of this size before? Or mostly regular Kobune like myself?"

[Amaya]

"Sampans, but nothing this size. It heaves on the waves different than those do. Lasts longer in the deep and heads out further than any I've seen. Other'n that, it's handled a little squall just fine, so it's a sturdy enough ship," she said, nodding to it. "Good wood and good ropes to boot."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

The pipe find its way into the mantis's mouth again as he listens to the heimen speak. "Aye it did do well in that little squall but still I wonder how a ship this large would handle in some of the bigger storms I've been through."

[Amaya]

"No clue. It's not like I've been'n a ship what handled a typhoon, kaze no kami preserve us," she said, shaking her head and muttering a bit under her breath. "And, t'be fair, I'm not too keen on findin out any time soon, if ya catch my drift. Better t'stick to the squalls and hit the grounds as soon as somethin bigger comes along."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

The Mantis nodded in agreement. "I'm just a bit curious not curious enough to find out of course. Sometimes I just get to wondering though" The mantis made a sign against ill fortune. "It;s likely better to not even think about such a thing at all."

[Amaya]

"As they say, th'less one thinks of Isora no Kami, the better. Ya pray when ya land and when ya sail, but otherwise, best not t'invite her thoughts off her shores," she said, nodding in response to what he was saying. "There's a point where folks try not t'think bout stuff like that just in case."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"Aye I've done the same thing many of times in the past." He said with a nod. "Mayhaps though we should be talking about something else instead?" The mantis finished his eyes tracking to the sky. "You hear anything about how the fishing is in these waters?"

[Amaya]

"We're far from where I used t'fish, -sama," she said, shaking her head. "I wouldn't fish these waters, but further out... away from whatever's feeling around here. I'd bet some'f the rarer stuff ya can't get closer to th'mainland. I hear the islands have all sortsa fish out there. Ya know bout that sorta thing?"
