(Moon 11, Aft Deck, Afternoon) Battleship, Group A

The Ashigaru gingerly held onto his spear with only his left hand as he flexed his right slowly. Holding onto his spear had stung quite a bit. "Slippery Scorpion. Forgot how tough it is to trip them up." He mutters under his breath. Still, the Ashigaru doesn't look entirely pleased with the idea of fighting any more samurai after that fight though.

[Shiba Nozomi]

Nozomi silently adds her assistance to the end of the rope. Heavens knew they might actually need it... that Crab was solidly built, and the Scorpion was wearing armor, light as it might be. What with all the other people rushing to help, they might not even need her... but it was better to be more than needed, than absent when required.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Reading his ashigaru's expression, O-washi grinned. "Guess I'll stand with the ladies then."

Turning to the group at the rail, he called out, "Everyone take a good look and notice the trouble Bayushi-san's in because of his sword. Trying to swim and to hold onto the family Honor's a difficult thing. Once you have him up, all of you lot go and stow your steel and come back up, we'll use bokken for exercises today. Bayushi-san, you can keep yours 'cause you'll be wanting to clean it right away, bring up some oil and rags."

[Isawa Junpei]

The younger Isawa cocked his head with a quirked brow giving himself a mental shrug. Heading down to the crew quarters he was more than happy to stow his wakizashi for the rest of the trip. In all actuality it would be of very little use, but he figured it would be a good reminder to the ruffians on board that he was a samurai, in spite of his delicate frame and smooth hands.

[Hida Sayuri]

Sayuri doesn't let go of the rope...that instinct was too deeply ingrained. But she fumbles a bit in the rhythm shared with the others hauling.

"Y'mean we're not required to carry the blades here?" Her cousins had warned her specifically and repeatedly as to how much shit she could expect from the rest of the clan's bushi should she leave the blades stowed. It was a relief actually.

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

The Agasha had already stowed his wakizashi for the journey that morning but another, more pressing, thought came to his mind.

"Our spell scrolls. I have made copies, but they are as vital to us shugenja as live steel is to the bushi. Is there anyway to protect them from salt water, Isawa-sama?"

[Shiba Nozomi]

Nozomi pipes up at this. It had been one of her main concerns when she started learning how to speak with the kami formally. "You c-can coat th-the ones you ha-have with a small b-bit of oil or w-wax, and that'll help for a while, Aga-agasha-sama. Only s-sure thing is t-to mem-memorize them all, otherw-wise you'll ha-have to re-rescribe them eventually n-no matter wha-what you do."

[Yasuki Himiko]

Himiko, having not been carrying her daisho since the journey began, did not budge. The belaying pin was held in her hand with very little thought, and she was focused instead on the eventuality of someone be prepared to fight her.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Turning to the Hida, he said, "Only if you get piped for a battle will you want them and I expect after enough drills that anyone on this ship will be well able to get from anywhere on board down to their chests and back in ample time to engage...and, anyway, it's not the best weapon all the time, one reason being what you just saw. If you go over and don't know it's coming...well then. Suitengu-kami's store of weapon's grows and you have a lot of explaining to do to your Lord, possibly ancestors too if you inherited your blade...assuming you're not dead from having nothing to defend yourself with once you get out of the drink."

On the topic of spells, O-washi was quick to reassure his fellow priest. "As Shiba-san says. We also have some paper made out of bamboo instead of wood that tends to stand up a bit better, needs a special ink but we stock that, too, though not enough for wasting on anything other than ofuda."

[Hida Sayuri]

"They're nothin' special. It's Kaihyou as has been in the family a while--and there's enough wood in 'im ta float."

Once the soggy Bayushi's drawn up. Sayuri wastes no time trotting off to stow the blades, thudding across the deck with a sound like a small elephant--which few here have likely heard--or a small herd of cats after the same moth.

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

Qian-Fan nodded at the Isawa's reassurance, looking quite relieved.

"I would be obliged if I could copy my scrolls onto that paper then, Isawa-sama."

His silks and sword were stowed away, only his scrolls remained of his shugenja security blanket.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Once all had gone down and come up again, O-washi arranged them on either side of the drawn lines on the deck, about ten feet apart.

"Some of you were probably curious about these."

He tapped one with a foot.

"When ships engage, usually it's with range and the goal is to sink your opponent. Sometimes though, if the other ship has something you need, be that cargo or captives or information, you'll want to capture it. Sometimes they may get the drop on you during a time when you can't outsail 'em and sometimes, well, they may just try to get captives or plunder from you."

Moving to the center of one line, he waved forward the Yasuki.

"Yasuki-san here's going to be demonstrating for us a boarding maneuver, which is what ship to ship melee usually comes down to. This distance here is about the farthest you can safely manage without landing in the drink, though some will naturally be a bit better or a bit worse. It's dangerous, for several reasons, and only the hardiest can usually get away with it."

He moved to stand with the two ashigaru women, waving for Dageki to take his own place on the sidelines where he could keep an eye on things. Then he rolled his head on his neck, setting several disks to popping, cracked his knuckles, and said, "On your own time, Yasuki-san."

[Yasuki Himiko]

Himiko nodded and, hefting the belaying pin as if it were nothing, runs forward and leaps effortlessly across the lines. Despite the distance, she seemed to have experience with leaping across things, and she has no problem with the landing, setting herself up for the opportunity to strike in but a moment.

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Having been giving leave to get cleaning materials for his sword, the Scorpion did indeed want to clean the blade quickly. Still, he could both clean his sword and watch the drill with an appraising eye. Lion's weren't the only ones interested in tactics after all.

[Shiba Nozomi]

Nozomi watches the demonstration with interest. She's not quite sure she wants to know what they belaying pin will be used for, as she'd heard some pretty... intense... rumors about Crab fighting the last time she was home.

[Isawa O-Washi]

The heavily padded arrow of the older woman flew straight and true despite it's unwieldy nature, sailing past her shipmates to bounce lightly off the Yasuki's shoulder {2 damage}.

O-washi, perhaps because he was trying not to be shot, just overshot the Yasuki, groaning at his own lack of prowess.

The younger archer, grinning a bit at the fate of the hapless gunso, still managed to hit the Yasuki with a padded arrow, rather harder than her cohort had. {4 damage}

[Yasuki Himiko]

Himiko grins and swings at the Isawa, bringing the pin hard against his chest. There is no sense of defense in the Yasuki's stance, everything is placed into putting the pain on her superior. She was not the type to hold back against anyone.

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi grunted, absorbing most of the blow (using a void). "That how it is, is it?" Despite the words, he was grinning, the madcap gleam of a born brawler in his eyes.

The two ashigaru, after an exchange of looks, set bow to string again, this time not trying to be gentle with where they hit. The older of the pair's arrow thudded into the sensitive collar bone of the Yasuki, sure to leave a mark{{6 damage}}

O-washi, meanwhile, came back swinging and this time got his opponent in the gut, giving nearly as good as he'd gotten. {{15 damage}}

The younger archer, eyes narrowed, let off another shot that found a home in the already tenderized midsection of the hapless Yasuki. Hopefully the Crab girl was as tough as she looked or she'd need carried down to the Bay for healing. {{12 damage}}

Dageki, who'd been watching with some amusement, glanced over to the collection of Samurai with a small smirk on his face. "Samurai-samas, your comrade is getting beaten pretty badly over there..." He didn't say it particularly loudly, mind...one didn't interrupt one's betters, especially when doing so would ruin the entertainment. He left his comments at that however, wanting to see what they would do now.

[Yasuki Himiko]

Certainly, the weight of the blows was starting to slow down the Yasuki, but she was a persistent one, and didn't seem the type to go down from a couple of scratches. Despite her new injuries, she pressed the assault on O-Washi
