Hanging out (Rigging, moon 12, evening, open)

[Yasuki Himiko]

Himiko had been climbing through the rigging for perhaps an hour now, doing her best to avoid the bird's coop (that she had assumed it had claimed for itself). Even with the little bit of self restricted area, she seemed to be enjoying herself, even as she worked to get farther up than she had a few days prior.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Up in the crow's nest, Ichiro Yakusoku adjusts her headband and stares off into the darkening twilight. She'd been on ships enough to feel that tension amongst the crew so unsurprisingly, she gazes out to the west. Her gray sleeveless shirt and trousers billow just slightly as a chilly wind blows down from the north. It doesn't seem to phase the Badger though. No, this unseasonable cold was nothing really. Leaning against the edge of the crow's nest she softly begins to whistle to herself; a common sailing tune she'd heard again and again coming out of Crab ports.

The sound of a familiar tune was an interesting thing to Himiko, and being the crab that she was, she began moving in the tunes direction. Great, it's in the direction of the crow's nest. I didn't wanna bother the bird. Regardless, her climb caused her to find her way over to the crow's nest, where she then saw another crewwoman... one she only saw in passing before. Instead of just greeting her, she decided to be a bit different this time and begin singing along, showing her familiarity with that very tune.

The sound of singing was a surprise, but a pleasant one. For all her talk of not looking back to port, Yakusoku did miss a few of the old crew and hearing another sing their songs was enough to get her to peer out into the rigging to see who'd joined her. Nodding respectfully to the Crab she switches from her whistling to singing right along. The Badger's no artisan but, then again, such sea-faring tunes weren't meant to be sang by uptight courtiers or pretty Crane maidens.

Certainly, Himiko wasn't a great amount better when it came to singing, but it seemed to serve her purposes well enough. At the conclusion of the song, she grinned widely, offering a bow to the Minor clanner. "Good teh see there are some non-crab here who ain't sticks in the mud."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Ya sail outta Clear Water long enough and ya realize bein' a stick in the mud's nothin' more than a damn good way to get yer teeth knocked down yer throat," Yakusoku grins right back, offering her own bow. "Ichiro Yakusoku. Good to meet ya."

[Yasuki Himiko]

"Yasuki Himiko. Certainly a pleasure."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Well Yasuki-san," the Badger steps a bit to the side, offering room in the crows nest just in case the Crab wishes to have something solid beneath her feet, "how ya likin' bein' on this boat? Ya seem to know yer way around the riggin'. Still, don't know 'bout you, but it's a lot bigger than any I've served on before."

[Yasuki Himiko]

"Spent the past couple of days exploring these parts, so I've learned 'em pretty well," she stays on the rigging, taking a moment to look around for, well, something, "as far as actual boats, I've only done personal training and study on the matter. This is the first boat I've been on."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Hmm," she nods, "well ya seem to have taken to it just fine. And ya know the songs which counts for somethin'. Not many'd botha to study interestin' stuff like the sailin' life. Then again, this ship seems'ta be filled with interestin' types."

[Yasuki Himiko]

She laughs, "I had some inspiration, admittedly. This is where I've wanted to be since I could walk." She finally seems satisfied that she's not going to be accosted by a bird and sits down. "There are some interesting ones here fer sure. The Iuchi woman seems to like flirtin' with everything that moves, though."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku laughs a bit herself. "Haven't talked ta that one yet. Though a bit of flirtin' comes with the territory. I've heard my share of catcalls from the guys I've sailed with and it's all in fun. They'll probably start doin' the same to ya 'round here once they get ta know ya." Shrugging the Badger looks out over the edge of the crow's nest, gaze shifting to the west yet again. "Congrats on gettin' where ya always wanted ta be, by the way. Wouldn't a been my first choice years back, but its where I wanna be now."

She nodded. "I grew up on stories of Yasuki Fumoki, and I've been hooked on the idea of this ever since. I guess we'll see if it's everything I've imagined it to be, neh? Seems pretty promising so far."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Should be interestin'," she nods. "The sailors keep lookin' out west like they're expectin' trouble. Could just be a storm a brewin' or something more excitin'. I'd hope for a scrap if I didn't think there's a few aboard that wouldn't know a belayin' pin if ya smacked'em upside the head wit it. Just 'cause some of us would enjoy a good fight don't mean we're all ready."

[Yasuki Himiko]

Himiko laughed a bit. "I'm kinda lookin' forward to our first real scrap too. I've always wondered if I could actually kill a man with a belayin' pin."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"I've seen a few hurt pretty bad with'em. Usually they was kicked to death afterwards though. I'm sure ya swing the thing hard enough and it's possible. Me, I prefer usin' a blade or an ono. Though picking up a man an tossin' him about has it's place too." She chuckles at that, recalling a few stories that may be worth sharing later. "Ya look like ya could hold yer own in a fight. I'm pretty sure ya could put the hurt on someone swingin' a pin."

She nods to the Ichiro, a mischevous grin on her face. "I was trained in the Kobo Ichi-Kai style. We're trained from the onset to do whatever it takes to make sure our opponent is good and dead, no matter how it gets done."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Oh!" she grins back, shifting some to turn her attention more to the Yasuki, "I've heard of the style but never seen it used by someone with real trainin'. Most the time its just folks who pick up a bar stool and swing it hard as they can manage. Hopefully I'll get to see the way ya fight while we're sailin' together. Perhaps even spar sometime with ya sometime." The grin lingers, the thought of training with someone practicing the brutal Crab style holding a certain appeal. Sure, she may have to worry about getting bitten, eye-gouged or choked with an obi. But really, that was part of the fun.

"Oh, I'm sure we'll manage somethin'. To give fair warnin' if we spar, though, I don't hold anything back. If I have to smash a sake cup on yer forehead to win, I may do just that."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"I wouldn't expect anythin' less Yasuki-san. If we both don't come out of it with a few bumps'n' bruises, either someone did something wrong and got beat early, or part of the crew mistook our spar for a genuine scrap, got in the way, and ended up bein' roughed up instead," she grins snorting softly at the thought. "That sorta sparrin's no fun unless ya mean it."
