[Galley, Moon 12, Late Afternoon, Open] Snackin'

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Having spent the afternoon training, Yakusoku meanders down to the galley. Motivated by a slight rumble in her stomach the Badger goes about acquiring some fish, vegetables and cold tea; the usual fair aboard The Half Moon but still a bit better than what she'd gotten used to over the last couple years of sailing. "Benefit of the Legion, I 'spose," she murmurs with a smirk, settling at the table and setting a bottle of spices beside the little meal.

[Amaya]

The only other occupant so far was a peasant, seated on another table and munching away at whatever rations were spared for her work. She caught sight of the samurai's entrance and bobbed her head with whatever salute was fitting... and could be managed in the cramped space. "-sama," came the murmur before the girl was back to her eating, at least as soon as she was sure it was safe to do so. She looked grizzled, tanned and heavily scarred, like one who'd been in countless fights or like a Crab who'd been down on his luck lately as far as the fights on the wall.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Heimin-san," she offers back, nodding politely. For a moment her gaze moves over the scars, appraising eyes taking in the peasant then moving away. For a moment she lapses into silence, eating slowly and glancing out a galley window. "Ichiro Yakusoku," she speaks eventually, her tone polite. "Ya serve on this boat long?"

[Amaya]

Oh thank the kami. Somebody who actually knows how to speak to a ... and now she wants a conversation. Well, at least it's half a story. Fuck if I know what those colors mean. Is that a bloody ferret on her shoulder, or a beaver?

She reached out with her hand as she heard the question and began counting. With a satisfied nod, she looked back towards the badger and grunted out. "Five days, Ichiro-sama. Joined up along with the new recruits," she said, having absolutely no clue what an Ichiro was. It certainly wasn't from around her hometown, that much was for sure. That probably meant minor clan, or maybe a unicorn or a dragon, but she'd be damned if she could be certain. "Heimin-san's fine, or you can call me Amaya or whatever nickname they end up picking for me if the time comes, whatever Ichiro-sama prefers."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"We'll go with Amaya-san for now," she turns back down to her sparse meal, opening the bottle of spices and shaking a bit out into the fish, "though that'll change if ya end up with a nickname." Yakusoku glances up long enough to quick glance at the peasant. Serving with heimin was commonplace on the sea and as far as the Badger's concerned, the woman's just another member of the crew. A half-person... but crew all the same.

[Amaya]

"Sounds like a plan, Ichiro-sama," she said, almost catching herself asking a question out of turn and frowning down at her food. Normally, the thought was inconceivable, but in this situation there seemed to be more freedom, even if she wasn't really in the mood to press it yet with strangers. She chewed and swallowed thoughtfully. That one hadn't been one of the fairies puking her guts out the first few days, had she?

Besides, she'd been about to ask if the woman had joined the crew at the same time, and then remembered that she already knew who the crew was. Anyone else was here for training.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

After a few moments of eating in silence Yakusoku looks up again, a hint of a frown on her lips if only for a moment. She was used to this. Always had to convince peasants on a new boat that you weren't going to throw them overboard for talking.

"So, where'd ya serve prior this here assignment?" she asks, swallowing a bit of the spiced fish and adding another pinch of spices. "Ya don' gotta answa if you don' wanna. I've served with enough folks on Crab boats to know we don't all like that question, and to treat heimin as part of the crew. Some a the best sailors I've met have been heimin."

[Amaya]

"Ah. No fuss 'bout that, Ichiro-sama," she said, glancing up and shrugging a bit. "I'm used to sampan work off the ... I guess Crane coast. They're the ones in the powder blue anyway. Never more'n one or two samurai at most on any ship. Fishing work out of town into the bays, trolling the coast and checking for trouble, keeping the docks clear of debris after storms. I've spent most of my life by the sea, though all coastal stuff. We're a lot further out these days."

She blinked and realized she'd shrugged again, a gesture she hated using in front of samurai in general, along with several others. "Most samurai don't talk to peasants 'less they got an order to make. Different round here."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Bah," Yakusoku offers a dismissive gesture at the words, coupled with a smile to make it clear she isn't upset, "ya sail on enough kobune with enough heimin and ya learn ta talk ta everyone. Sometimes, yer lot's the only ones with interestin' stories to tell. And up in Badger lands, well, we see enough tough spots that we learn the real value of the heimin we worth with," she shrugs, seeming to truly think nothing of it, and turning back to her meal. Her red, wooden chopsticks shovel a good sized bite of rice up to her mouth. "Can't speak for anyone else, but in my experience its good ta talk to the heimin and make'em yer friends on yer boat. After all, a friend'll swim that much harder to pull ya out of the drink if things are goin' bad."

[Amaya]

She chuckled a little at that. There was definitely some truth to what she was saying, but that also wasn't something that a peasant generally said openly. "As Ichiro-sama says," she said, allowing herself a small smirk. "Doesn't hurt that it's not like we can avoid each other. Most peasants go about their jobs quiet-like and don't spend time with samurai. That doesn't happen here on a boat, does it?"

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Some try to keep their distance it seems. Though that'll hopefully change once they're used to us. Yer right that we can't avoid each other. Best to get know yer crew and to learn to like'em. A boat's not gonna sail proper if the crew ain't gettin' along."

[Amaya]

"Begging your pardon, Ichiro-sama, but different samurai will take different takes," she said, shaking her head. "Unless I know what a samurai prefers I do, I'm not going to put on airs until I'm told where I stand. Protected as crew we might be, but we're only half-people. At the end of the day, I'm a spade or a coil of rope, only a valuable one so I'm not supposed to get ripped up unless we need it. You want to talk to me, and I won't stop that. It's your right, but far as the rope's concerned, it's going to be waiting till it knows you're the sort that wants to talk to it. Make sense?"

[Ikoma Hikaru]

A few moments later Ikoma Hikaru enters the galley in search of some tea. He frowns as he sees the minor clansmen and the heimin, not so much for there social standing as there is a very real chance they could be lunatics like many of there other shipmates.

Hikaru pauses at the door and thinks about just leaving, however by this point they would have noticed him and it would be rude to do such. Sigh. Such was the price of good breeding.

Hikaru nods slightly and says

"Greetings Ichiro-san, Heimin-san"

He then proceeds to try to find what he is here for.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Sure does," she nods, corner of her mouth twitching slightly, "not sayin' you should go up and get chatty; not tryin' to give advice. It falls to the samurai to get to know ya and the rest of the peasants on board. Just sayin' I think its a smart thing for them to be doin'." As before her tone stays polite, casual, but confident. It certainly gives the impression of one who has had similar conversations before.

At the arrival of the Lion Yakusoku turns to him and offers a quick bow. "Lion-sama," she murmurs, offering the quick greeting before turning back to her snacking. After all, it seemed the Lion was looking for something and she didn't feel the need to interrupt.

[Amaya]

"Lion-sama," she said after a quick nod in the direction of the Ichiro to indicate that she'd heard what the woman had already said. Her voice had the quality of gravel being grated on by one's sandals as she gave a salute to the man who entered and bent to take another bite once proper. She was very obviously putting her words into practice until one of them re-addressed her.

As for sanity, who could say? She was covered with as many scars as a veteran of the wall. That could say mountains about one's sanity... in either direction.

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Hikaru frowns as he looks around. He could never find anything he was looking for. Finally with a small sigh he turns around and says.

"Forgive this ones rudeness at interrupting a second time." He says with a shallow bow. "However would either of you know where the tea is at. I cannot seem to find it." His tone is flat and not very warm.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Gray, metal pot under there," Yakusoku gestures to the cubert she'd pulled the tea from and slipped the covered pot back into. Despite his cold tone hers stays warm and friendly, even as she avoids striking up more than the necessary conversation. She wasn't sure if this one was in a hurry, just in a mood, or generally unpleasant; but he certainly didn't seem like he wanted to have a talk.

[Amaya]

The question answered, Amaya simply nodded in comfirmation of the statement. Another bite served for a moment while she kept her head down. The colors he wore were ringing a bell. She'd passed through their lands while getting to the ship with her paperwork. This was not the sort of clan she wanted to take risks with, if she was remembering the way the other peasants had bowed or scraped around them correctly.

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Hikaru goes about preparing the tea as best as he can on a boat.

"Would either of you care to join me in drinking this pot?" Hikaru says. He does notice the Ichiro has one but it is still proper to offer. And as far as the Hiemin.....well he was trying to wrap his head around hiemn and boats.......

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"I wouldn't mind none," Yakusoku gestures to an empty spot at the table, lifting her cup for a quick drink. The answer came without much in the way of thought and after it she glances at Amaya. Hopefully the Lion would treat her alright. They tended to be hard but fair with a lot of their peasantry.
