Moon 12, Afternoon, Foredeck: I spy (UNICORN)

[Iuchi Xiao Hua]

Meanwhile, Xioa Hua tried to not admire the legs of his fellow shugenja as she climbed up. The way she swayed made it tricky. Movement tended to attract attention, after all.

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi waved it off. "Not a problem, Xiao-Hua-san. At least you didn't get to the first spar and start crying like a little girl."The gunso grimaced, remembering the last time he'd had to rescue a recruit...it'd taken him and three of the heimen, not to mention about four coils of rope and a black eye, to get the damn fool down. "Slow down and take it in segments. If you still need a bit of practice, well, we'll have Shinjo-san up there toss you a rope to tie on to aid the way."

Then Rinzuki went up and he was very nearly afraid he'd spoken too soon. Happily, she didn't scream (though he did get to enjoy a nice view of her legs, something the heimen was sneaking peeks at too) but he felt sorry for the poor girl's embarrassment. Determined not to make it worse by mentioning it, he just turned back to her male counterpart. "Right, time for that rope, then."

Tipping back his head, he called up to Qulan. "Oi! Shinjo-san! Let down the rope wound about the mast until it hits the deck!" Turning to Rinzuki he murmured, "If you like, you can go down and change into your new uniform before we go further into the lesson, neh?"

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki does not reply, but simply turns and walks off towards the hold, her cheeks still flushed with color.

[Shinjo Qulan]

Qulan followed instructions well, it seemed, because the rope started coming down. It stopped right as it hit the deck. "Need anything else, Isawa-gunso?" Yelled the Shinjo from atop the mast.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Stand ready to pull...same drill as for overboard, only follow the climber's speed."

Turning to Xiao Hua, he smiled. "Here...tuck this around your chest where it doesn't get in the way of your arms." O-washi wrapped the belt around his own rather broad chest as an example, then removed it and handed it back. "With the additional help, the longer stretches won't be so hard and it'll help you keep your bearings when a gust comes."

With the help of the rope, the man made his way ungainly to top.

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki soon returns to the foredeck, dressed in trousers and a blue sleeveless shirt, which she apparently managed to get on without smearing much of her makeup. She gait is awkward, however, and she keeps pulling down at her trousers in a way that would no doubt be amusing to male sailors.

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi took one look at her and sent the heimen off 'to do a round of the Captain's cabin.'.

Once he was gone, the gunso leaned close to the Iuchi. His tone was low and as gentle as he could manage when he spoke, low enough those above would not hear. "If you do not think you can do this, you do not have to try. There are other duties, that of watcher needn't be one of them."

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki shook her head and cast another look up at the crow's nest.

"I want to at least try, Isawa-sama. If I fall down and break a leg, just be sure to walk me through that counterweight procedure before I pass out from the pain."

[Isawa O-Washi]

At this, his face lit up in a fierce approving grin. "Done and done."

Then he called up, "Toss the rope back down!"

Once it was done, he walked Rinzuki through the wrapping, demonstrating on his own form as he'd done for her Cousin, before backing away to let her ascend.

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki pays close attention to O-Washi's instructions, and then turns to face the rope. Though she eventually makes it up to the top, there's a great deal of grunting involved.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Much relieved, O-washi rolled his arms once, stretching, before taking the whistle from the waiting Knots with a grin. Tucking it into his waistband, he swarmed up the mast after the Unicorn, making it look effortless. Once atop, he edge himself out on the spar a bit so that the three recruits would have the most possible room on the rather narrow planking, thick legs securely wrapped around the timber.

"Alright, now that we're all safely atop...look westerly. Tell me what you see."

Irritatingly enough, the Isawa neglected to indicate just which way 'west' was.

[Shinjo Qulan]

Oh, wait, duh. It's afternoon, the sun will be in the Western direction. Qulan looked towards the direction that the sun was closest to.

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki looks straight up, and makes some brief calculations in her head before turning in the same direction as Qulan. She also scoots up closer to the other woman, but surely that can be blamed on the lack of space, right?

[Shinjo Qulan]

Which definitely caused the poor Shinjo to stiffen up a bit. Qulan couldn't seem to forget what had happened, but she decided to focus on West. That was a good place to start.

[Iuchi Xiao Hua]

Xiao Hua reaches within his gi, pulling out an alien, oblong object. Lifting it to his face, the man gazed through the object to same direction the two women were looking at. He kept close the mast, supporting himself with his free hand.
