[Crew Quarters, Moon 8, Morning, OPEN] Pacing

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

As a new day dawned Yakusoku was up bright an early. The first night on a new boat had been fine enough and now it was time to get used to its rocking. "So different from the Crab ships," she murmurs softly, fixing her headband into her hair and putting on her earrings. The boat rocked beneath her and as she felt that familiar,dizzy feeling, she steeled herself to it and tied the band. Hair out of her eyes and jewelry on she wanders out into the common area of the quarters, exhaling slowly, determined to be used to the shifting beneath her feet by the end of the day.

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

About the same time Yakusoku enters the common area, Choukichi strolls in as well, announced by the clacking of the charred pieces of wood and the ofuda around his neck. He seems well adjusted to the ships rocking, though it took a bit longer than he is proud to admit, blaming the difference in size between The Half Moon and the kobune he has spent most of his time on. Spotting the minor clanner he smiles and nods politely.

"Morning Ichiro-san."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

A Yoritomo was certainly a welcome sight and one that gets a smile and nod right back. Of course, she takes note of the apparent charms, feeling a slight twinge of curiosity but ignoring it for the time being.

"Ohayo Yoritomo-sama," she speaks levelly, doing her best to steel herself against the feeling of the rocking boat. Figuring sitting would be better than standing on wobbly legs, the Badger moves over to the table and kneels on one of its cushions, shifting a bit to get comfortable. "Ichiro Yakusoku," she offers, nodding politely and gesturing to an empty cushion across the table.

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

Choukichi plops himself down across the table from her.

"Yoritomo Choukichi, it's a pleasure to meet you. Spent much time on a ship like this before? She's a lot bigger than i'm used to, doesn't rock quite the same as a little kobune."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"My lots been about the same, really. Served on a lotta Crab Kobune sailing out of Clear Water Village. Never anything like this though," the Badger's calloused hand reaches behind her neck, scratching gently. "Takes a bit of gettin' used to. Suppose that's the difference between the Hida's little boats and the ones in the Legion. Comes with the territory and all that," Yakusoku shrugs, letting her hand slip from her neck to adjust one of her gold earrings. "So, where'd you sail outta? If you don't mind me askin', that is..."

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

"I've been sailing out of Kyuden Kumiko for the last few years, Kyuden Gotei for a bit before that."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Hmm," she nods, eyes going half-lidded, thoughtful, "long enough to learn to be adequately prepared," she gestures to the good luck charms giving them an approving nod. "Just have my tattoos and earrings myself. Didn't have'em to start out but the boys back in Clear Water insisted. Since then I've learned the value of a good charm."

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

Choukichi chuckles a bit and tugs at the charms around his neck, then points at a few of the symbols on his arms.

"Have had these since way before I was ever officially assigned to a ship, couple of the tatoos too, most of the them are recent though."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Back home," the corner of Yakusoku's mouth twitches with a hint of a smile, "didn't give much thought to luck. Sensei always felt that if you were strong enough, you could overcome a bout of bad luck through perseverance... or good old fashioned stubbornness. Badger kinda known for that," the twitch turns, momentarily, into a tight smile. "But I don't care how strong you are; you can't fight the sea. Sometimes ya just need ta know that ya got the Fortunes on your side."

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

Choukichi nods his head, pleased to talk to someone who understands.

"Far too many think otherwise and don't really understand just how much your life hinges on the whims of Suitengu-kami when you are out at sea."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"I've always felt the Fortunes help those who help themselves. No need ta be calling on'em for something ya can take care of on your own. But not respectin' Suitengu-kami while yer sittin' on a boat's just damn stupid." Tilting her head side to side, Yakusoku allows the muscles in her shoulders and neck to pop. She may've been use to sleeping in a hammock, but that didn't mean it left a person any less stiff. "But seems if we keep talkin' on that we're just gonna be agreein' at each other all morning," she murmurs the last bit with a smile, glancing around the common room. "What sorta task you hopin' the Captain and company are gonna put you to?"

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

Choukichi shrugs his shoulders, not too concerned about where he ends up.

"Not sure, i've trained to perform most any task neccessary on a ship so i'm comfortable being put almost anywhere. Last posting I was mostly just a marine, they packed the ships pretty full for the raids so there was more hands than necessary."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku nods. "I'm about the same way... though ship maintenance ain't gonna be my strong suit. As long as they put me somewhere where I'm movin' somethin' heavy or gettin' to hit people, I'll fit in just fine. Though probably gonna have to practice swingin' my ono a bit. Don't wanna be using the ol' daisho much considerin' what the sea can do to your sword. And throwin' a knives ain't gonna drop much... save the knife straight down into the water," she sighs softly, a sound that could be misconstrued as a sign of frustration if not for her smile. "Yep... used to shorter trips going back and forth outta port. Gonna hafta relearn the ropes for this assignment."

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

"I know a bit about maintenance, I mean I can plug a hole as long as nobody expects it to be a permanent fix... Considered trying something a bit lighter than an ono, swinging that much weight arounds gotta make it hard to stay balanced."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku nods at this, moving her hand up to fiddle with her headband, tugging it up slightly, then back down. "Got the benefit of Ichiro trainin' for that. You swing an ono enough times on an unstable mountain trail with those rocks shiftin' and rollin' beneath your feet and you learn to keep your balance," she spoke the words matter-of-factly, proud of her training as any samurai would be but not wanting to flaunt it. "Still worse comes to worse I can handle a few weapons other than my axe."

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

Choukichi nods his head, then asks a bit hesitantly, making it clear she need not answer if it is an uncomfortable subjact.

"You see much combat on the sea while you were sailing out of Clear Water Village?"

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"A bit here n' there," she shrugs. "And what we didn't see in real combat we made up for with scuffles 'mongst the crews. All in fun, of course." Having her band how she wants it finally she lowers her hand back to the table, drumming her fingers there softly. "Ya don't need to be worryin' 'bout questions like that wit me, Yoritomo-san. I likes me a good fight. And while 'combat' isn't always a good fight, I ain't never had reason to mind it none."

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

"Apologies, but i figure it's always best to be careful asking a Crab or someone who has served with em that kind of questions. They see some nasty stuff and I don't blame some of em for not wanting to talk about it."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"No need to be apologizin' either," she offers with a smile, "I get what yer thinkin' and yer right to believe it. Just tellin' ya how it is for future talks is all. That and so you know who to bring to the bar fights at port," the Badger chuckles, then exhales softly the last hint of her smile a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth.

Choukichi chuckles as well.

"If I decide to pick some fights when we get back i'll be sure to invite you along Ichiro-san, always good to have a strong arm like yours watching your back."
