(Moon 10, Aft Deck, Afternoon) Orientation, Group B

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki holds the blades at arm's length, with the very tips of her fingers, and quickly passes them along. If she has any idea about how long they have been out in the elements, she chooses to keep it to herself.

[Akodo Jishaku]

Akodo Jishaku had the good fortune of receiving his lesson in where to stick your daisho the day before so he just watched as two of the bushi stepped forward. He nodded and listened to the Isawa and gave the bird a grin, remembering him from that first day on the rigging.

His gaze swept over them. "Which of you've been in a sea battle?"

Jishaku prowled forward and waited for the others to move up. He was somewhat surprised to find only one other does the same and has to turn to take the blades from the Unicorn before passing them along.

"A few days in the water, maybe a week on the deck gunso?"

[Volsung]

The male ashigaru snorted some as the Lion stepped forward but managed to keep from saying anything again. Jishaku would remember him as the one who'd called him a son of a bitch the day before. The two women looked like they were starting to prepare for some sort of outburst though.

[Isawa O-Washi]

A nod was given to the Akodo once the blades had finished the circuit and he took them and held them out for the ashigaru to take. "Exactly so. Now, these are of inferior steel compared to what true samurai or those who we employ have...your weapons would last a bit longer. That said, well...I recommend, strongly, you leave them below."

Blue eyes studied the Akodo and then the Yoritomo who had stepped forward, weighing them on some internal scale. Finally, he smiled.

"Since you answered so well, you can help with a demonstration for your fellows. Gather around, you lot."

He looked to the ashigaru again, something in his grin betraying he'd observed the group's reaction to the young man and was offering the heimen a present of sorts. "Dageki. Set up for a mock boarding."

Looking at Jishaku again, he grinned. "Live steel or bokken?"

[Shinjo Qulan]

Awwww... I wish I could demonstrate... Qulan just remained quiet, still desperately trying not to look back at all costs.

[Akodo Jishaku]

Jishaku nods at the gunso and flashes Dageki a sly smile.

[Volsung]

Dageki got a big grin on his face like he'd just gotten a fantastic gift and took his spear up in his other hand. The two women looked slightly worried but moved none the less, picking chalk out of their pockets they moved to an open area of the deck and started to draw two equidistant lines. Glancing at one another occasionally to make certain they were still as far apart as they should be. Once they had drawn two ten foot lines about 5 feet away from one another they stood up and considered their handy work, nodding slowly.

Dageki meanwhile had moved to stand near one of the lines and was waiting patiently, with that same grin on his face. He wasn't hiding the fact that he was going to enjoy this at all.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku had lingered on the edge of the group, nodding and quietly 'mhmm'-ing at the Isawa's lesson. She'd heard it all before but she was still going to be respectful. After all, there were those that hadn't and this was also the first time she'd heard it from a member of the Legion. As O-Washi calls the group over, the Badger does as ordered, moving closer to the display but careful to stay out of the way. She was moving with more confidence now, having gotten used to the feel of the new boat beneath her feet. Looking between the rather impressively built Isawa and the ashigaru she can't help but allow a hint of a smile to tug at the corner of her mouth. This was bound to be an interesting display.

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

Choukichi perks up a bit when he finds out what the gunso has planned, more than a little interested in seeing how the Lion fares having himself participated in more mock boardings than he could count during his own training.

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Hikaru's eyes shift slightly as he looks at the man snorting as his clan mate steps forward. The peasants seemed to have forgotten there place. It wasnt proper conduct, however this was not his ship and therefor not his place to correct them.

he raises an eye as he Isawa suddenly decides to change the training session. For now he just waits to see how things turn out.

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki calmly checks her (very fashionable) scroll satchel to make sure that she had her healing spells on hand, and then turns back to the demonstration with interest.

[Isawa O-Washi]

The Akodo was at least a good sport, O-washi gave him that. Smiling, he waved to the nearest port. "Go and get your choice, Akodo-san, while I explain the nature of the demonstration to your fellows. Dress as you would if this was a true alarm, eh? Show these lubbers some speed."

Then he turned to the rest once the Lion had gone.

"Interships battle is usually a matter of range...magic, arrows, and ballista fire. If you need to capture the enemy, however, sooner or later boarding is a necessity."

He pointed to the lines.

"That is about the farthest two ships can be to safely make the attempt. I've seen it done further, mind, but I've also had to take home effects of those trying shorter jumps. Remember, dead heroes bring glory and all that but we'd much rather bring home the intelligence or the stolen goods now reclaimed than tales of such feats. Now, you'll note that Dageki over there has a spear...I'll tell you now, he's one of the best with it I've seen in my years on ships and you'd best get used to dealing with him because he's going to be doing some training with you and I, and the Captain, expect you to be properly respectful when he's your sensei."

He paused for a glower at that, then went on.

"He and the rest are going to show you all what a good crew can do to repel boarders."

[Volsung]

Dageki looked over at the Ikoma as the man looked at him with disdain and as O-Washi lavished praise on him the Ikoma could see his grin growing more and more until it looked as though it was going to break his face once it was said he was going to be the samurai's sensei.

The girls, for their part, merely sighed and rolled their eyes at the entire display. Far too used to such behavior from their fellow Ashigaru. Still they looked like they were getting ready to enjoy the show as well.

[Akodo Jishaku]

True enough, the Lion is back up on deck in under 30 seconds, a bokken tucked into his obi. He hasn't taken the time to throw his armour on since the gunso asked for speed. Upon closer inspection he appears to have a few small knives in his belt. Not proper throwing knives, but then maybe he doesn't want to make anyone bleed...yet.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Approval lit the gunso's face and he nodded. 'Good. Now then."

His tone became businesslike again, even as he sauntered across the deck toward the chalked lines, his gesture indicating the rest should take places on either side to observe.

"This is only an exercise so we're going until a yield. I expect all of you to behave like good shipmates and show some respect for the ones that will have to have your back if this was real. Any questions before we go?"

[Akodo Jishaku]

Jishaku just bows to Dageki and the others. "Ready gunso."

[Volsung]

With perhaps some sign of annoyance, Dageki flips his spear around so the blunt end is pointing up. Still, he's careful not to gouge the floor as he prepares. He glances to O-Washi with the smile still on his face.

"If he goes in the drink does that count as yielding?"

[Akodo Jishaku]

"If I go in you should join me, it looks like a nice day for a swim." He raises an eyebrow and readies his bokken.

[Isawa O-Washi]

The gunso considered it. "You ladies have those signal arrows?"

Cotton batting, oil-soaked and unlit, was a lot nicer of a thing to be shot with but it'd still hurt.

"If so, then I see no reason we shouldn't let Akodo-san have every chance to show his worth and educate his shipmates." At this, he glanced at the others. "You'll all be doing this same drill before you're released for the day so pay attention. Even if you're not combat-trained, you're going to give it a go...sometimes the Fortunes choose a path and it's best to know how to walk it, even if you didn't plan to."

[Volsung]

The three Ashigaru prepared themselves for combat, Dageki was on the balls of his feet before the other two had raised their bows though, already prepared for a fight.
