As far as being pragmatists, the fact is, a wakizashi is a weapon that (under 4e rules) can be thrown 20'. I can see quite a few Hida using that fact in a tense fight to keep their clansmen alive. Seeing oni and ogres rip your kinsmen apart every day would leave a man a bit more likely to worry about his honor AFTER the fight was over.

They still worry about it, as you said, and will respond to an insult (if they aren't so obtuse that they can't perceive it), but during a fight where their friends, allies, and clansmen are in direct danger, they are going to kill first with anything at hand, and deal with the consequences after the fight.

You'd also gain honour from winning the fight so it'd balance out surely?

You only gain honor from winning a fair fight. These are dirty gaijin, so way beneath us. I got a little honor from protecting Amaya for a round, tho, that cute, filthy little heimen.

It's a damn close initiative roll for once, with the only outlier being the healer. Hahaha.
