Shhh ... thunk (Day 6, Early Morning, The yard)

[Kakita Sugita]

Without saying a word, Sugita carries out two bundles of straw with twine on his next trip. He has target arrows. Maybe they don't. "So, Tsuruchi-san. How's life been?"

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

Her arrow thumps into the throat of her borrowed straw man, "Life? The usual I guess, a few days in port are always nice," she shrugs, "You enjoying yourself?"

[Kakita Sugita]

Hmmmm. "Not really. Gaijin port." The Kakita draws and aims.

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

"There's that of course," she draws another arrow, "This war of theirs isn't helping either. Maybe it'd smell better with less people in it."

[Kakita Sugita]

Sugita releases the arrow with his breath, sending it downrange to smack ambiguously on the target. "Doubtful it'd smell decent with even one gaijin here."

I quietly listened to the flow of conversation while slowly taking a few shots myself. I was concentrating more on my stance and the correct movement and feel of the shot, rather than the shot itself. It was not a bad way to spend the morning. I agree with the Kakita's sentiments now. The port has lost some of its glamour to me

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

Kiyo waits a moment for the others to pauze before she goes to collect her arrows from the straw hedgehog she's created, "We'll be out of here soon enough, unless someone really pisses off the locals."

[Kakita Sugita]

"Where would you rather be? If given a choice." Sugita asks as he takes aim once more.

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

"Out there on the open ocean," she replies without hesitation, "Port is good for three things, hot baths, hot food and warm sake," she grins, "When you've scrubbed the salt from your skin and filled your belly, it's time to set sail."

[Kakita Sugita]

"The Yoritomo have got you good, eh?" Heheh. "'Salright. I think it'd be nice t'be out there too. Preferably sailing for Rokugani coasts."

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

"The ocean's in my blood, no Yoritomo were involved in putting it there," she shrugs, "I don't care where we're sailing as long as we are, but some real sake'd beat this export stuff they got here."

[Kakita Sugita]

"Bug Isawa-gunso," Sugita says with a smirk. "He's got some good stuff. If we didn't drink it all."

[Mirumoto Tomoe]

"I imagine that supply won't last long with some of the men I've seen as part of the crew" I say with a sideways look and a cheeky grin. "Not that I can blame them. Some good sake is always welcome".

[Kakita Sugita]

"A ship can't have a crew without sake, and can't keep it afloat in it."

"Ah...ha...ha" I laugh nervously. I think it was a joke of some kind? Sometimes I missed the simple obvious ones. My sensei told long winded jokes. I go back to looking at the target, taking my time to set up another shot

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

Kiyo snorts, "Hai, too much sake and we'll be sailing in circles, too little and people get bored. Bored people start fights without handy excuses and that creates a whole new mess."

[Kakita Sugita]

"Exactly. Though that has it's upsides as well," Sugita adds with a smirk.

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

"I don't think Dageki would have agreed," she releases her arrow, "With some sake in his belly the whole mess would just have ended with some lashes."

[Kakita Sugita]

"Who?" Sugita asks curiously.

[Tsuruchi Kiyo]

"Dageki, captain, former-captain of the ashigaru got into a fight with one of your clansmen when a piece of wood he'd dropped injured his sister," she knocks an arrow and draws back the string, "I think he'll be leaving port short one head," she releases the arrow, her aim unaffected by the words she'd spoken. It was a shame that it had happened, but she had little time for fools.
