[Day 4, Late Morning, Streets] Safety in Numbers

Ah, no. Now we all have to be nice and introduce ourselves.

"Shiba Naomi," another bow of her head.
At least he had offered to guide them a bit though. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to ask more about Lanka.

"Isawa Junpei, shugenja of the Phoenix" he mirrored with a tilt of his head. If these people did respect priests then it wouldn't hurt to mention he was one.

The translator turns and talks to Jayant again, pointing to each of the samurai in turn and saying their names. Jayant smiles as he hears each one, but his eyes go a bit qide when he hears the word "Brahmin" attached to Junpei's name.

He immediately does another namaste to the man and speaks again in his flowing foreign tongue.

The translator chuckles and looks back at Junpei. "He says he would like to apologize. If he had known he was in the presence of a priest he would have shown the proper respects. Brahmin, they call them here. They are quite powerful and treated with great respect by those of lesser castes."

Kaito glanced over at the pair of phoenix, he would field that statement if the others wished but really it would be better for one of the two fire chickens to respond.

The Phoenix was unsure how to feel about the distinction. He might have given himself more time to ponder it, but instead his mind focused on one question, "And when you say 'Power' you mean what exactly?"

The notion that their was a powerful priest cast at all made the shugenja want to tense up, but keeping his breathing steady, he relaxed his body and kept his usual placid features.

The translator looks slightly nervous for a moment. "Well, they have what they call sutras here. They say the sutra and then magical things happen. I'm sure it is nothing compared to the kami of course." he is very quick to add.

That is exactly what Junpei had hoped the man wouldn't say. Political power, religious power, broad social power, fine, but actual power over the elements made him pale. Not literally, as his heart began to beat faster. Covering it with his hands as though it muffled the sound he nodded, "I see. Do either of you know then the kind of....willworking that they do?"

The Phoenix found it very hard not to say blasphemies.

The translator, still looking incredibly nervous about this subject, and the Isawa's reactions to it, turns and quietly speask to the gaijin. Jayant looks contemplative for a moment before he replies to the man and he looks back, looking a little more relieved. "He says that he is not a priest, and any explanation he gave probably wouldn't do proper justice to the art. I don't really know much besides what I've said, Isawa-sama."

Junpei simply inclined his head in thanks to the pair of them. He had little else of use for either man at this point, his only worry now both confirmed and left unknown.

It was going to be one of those days wasn't it? With a inward sigh the mantis glanced between the pair and spoke up. "AH but enough lounging in the streets neh? We should likely be on our way." Kaito says as he moves to set off. "Was Jayant Uptal-san..." Kaito struggles somewhat with the name before looking at the heimen for a moment. "Is that the proper way to address him?" "Was he on his way to the embassy as well?"

The translator smiles. "Addressing him like that will be fine, Yoritomo-sama. Whatever you are most comfortable with." He turns and speaks to the Rhuumali for a moment. The two go back and forth a few times before the translator turns back around.

"He says that he had been on his way to the temples, to give thanks to his gods for his deliverance from death. But he feels the gods would understand if he took some time to speak to those who, saved him from a bad death."

"Alright then, lets walk together for a while then." Said Kaito with a smile "Perhaps Jayant Uptal-san would be kind enough to tell us a little about the city on the way?"

The translator glanced to Jayant, then back to Kaito. "That is a task better meant for hearing directly, Yoritomo-sama. I fear I would perhaps lose some of the meaning of the words if I translate. But I know some of the history of Lanka, and may be able to lead you to another that can expound on the matter."

"I may have to take you up on that after we arrive at the embassy though if you would like to tell us what to know that might be nice." He said thinking for a moment. "Of course knowing some of the common customs of the lands what not to do and some interesting places to visit in Lanka might be better."

"What do you two think?"
He asks as he turns towards the Phoenix.

"Where would these temples be? I'd like to see them myself at some point during our stay?"
I wonder what they look like...

The translator turns and speaks to Jayant for several minutes as the group continues going at a slow pace. Eventually the translator turns back. "He says that Mount Mainaka is a great place to get supplies. Very safe. It's down that way." The translator points. "And that there was a great pub down by the docks, but he's not sure if it's there anymore. This city is over a thousand years old, and there are lots of tiny shops and hideaways that are good for hiding away and relaxing for a few hours. A shop called 'The Golden Monkey' apparently serves the best fried food in the city." The translator points to a far away point where several tall domes peak over the other buildings. "The temples are that way, and they are some of the grandest structures in the city, save perhaps for the palace itself."

"The Golden Monkey." Kaito said thoughtfully considering the name for a moment before remember fried things often came out 'golden'... "You don't figure they sell fried monkey there do ya?" He asked the translator quite seriously.

The translator blanched at that thought. "I hope not. But sometimes I don't think I would put it past them, Yoritomo-sama."

"Ah good... maybe i'll see if I can find it then." Replied Kaito with a nod. Though the ideas of eating monkeys didn't appeal to him in the least fried food might be nice. "Are there any shops here that cater to Rokugani tastes by chance?"

The translator glances to Jayant and speaks to him again. They bounce back and forth, obviously going through different ideas before they settle on one. The translator turns back. "Well, he's only heard of it by second-hand, but I've been there myself. It is a place called the Jade Sun. It is not too far from the embassy." He paused. "I couldn't say how it compares for a samurai's palate, but I rather like it. It's not too far off."
