More training, less thinking(Day 3, Early Morning)

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku offers a nod to each of the Phoenix but keeps much of her focus on training. However, her eyes do manage to move over to the Crab and Scorpion once in awhile. Her own weapon continues to slice air, the woman breathing out with each brutal attack.

[Bayushi Kichirou]

The big man nods, "basics come first," and being happy with the thrusting, "you slash in two ways until you master this weapon. Like this at the face," he demonstrates how it looks a lot like swabbing the deck, only at someones eyes, "or like this to drop them."

He makes a similar motion at crotch and knee level. "There are more advanced uses that allow you to effectively use a spear as a staff as well, but they require you to grasp the basic maneuvers. Always remember that if they get close, though, that a good shove or crack in the nose with the shaft is as effective with any weapon with reach."

"A good crack in the nose...." Kichirou repeats as he attempts a couple swipes at what would be eye level for him, though not the Crab and then knee level which is in general more equitable. The slashes are quick but not exactly precise, more work would be required to be sure. The Scorpion then goes about working out how to bring the back end of the spear to bear quickly at around head height presumably to figure out how best to crack someone in the nose.

[Hida Musasha]

The big man takes his spear and shows Kichirou that if you use the center of the spear to hit someone in the middle of the face using the shaft of the spear, "Like this. It's faster than using the back of the spear."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Hit'em with it," Yakusoku comments teasingly. "He'll learn then." Bringing her kata to a halt the woman glances at the two samurai, her crooked smile a bit brighter than usual. "Just teasin' Bayushi-san. Don't need Ram breakin' the noses of anymore crewmen, eh?"

[Shiba Naomi]

Naomi covered her mouth to supress a laugh at Yakusoku's promise.
"Well, they say that pain is a good teacher..."

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

"We have an abundance of healers."

It was hard to say if the Agasha had said that in a joking fashion or not.

[Hida Musasha]

The Ram hadn't noticed the crowd gathered until the rest spoke up, "Oi." He considered something for a moment, "You use the spear, Shiba-san. Anything more you have to add to my lesson?"

[Shiba Naomi]

"Oh," she looked a bit surprised to be 'included' in the lesson.
"It seems you have covered the basics well enough for the young grasshopper."

She looked at the Scorpion. "Just remember that the advantage of the spear is the length and by holding at the end, you can thrust it forward to reach its full length. And as Hida-san says, you can use it as a bo, for more defensive purposes."

[Akodo Jishaku]

Rising early to fit in some training before breakfast, Jishaku made his way toward the sound of samurai on the aftdeck. It had to be the Ram, and they hadn't had a good sparring session since starting their full duty rosters. Grabbing a pair of bokken from the armoury he made his way over and bowed respectfully to all the gathered samurai.

"Good morning shipmates, might I join the lesson Hida-san?"

[Hida Musasha]

Musasha nods to the Lion, "Oi, I don' see why not. Me an' Naomi are teachin' th' Scorpion a lesson in stickin' things wi' a spear. He should have all the basics now ta do a right good job of it."

[Akodo Jishaku]

He nods. "Excellent. Seems to me I should be learning the same thing, after the ashigaru's demonstration earier in our voyage."

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"That was my impetus as well Akodo-san." Kichirou offers even as he moves his hands to the end of the 'spear' and begins testing the jab and sweep, "Hitting with the middle is sound, you don't get as much leverage as if you used the other end but then you aren't trying to kill someone with a jab to the nose I suspect. Just trying to back them up a bit?"

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

"Off the ship I would have thought, Bayushi-san. That is the desired result in repelling boarders, is it not?"

[Hida Musasha]

"Off the ship, back them up, or knock em down, whatever it takes to get 'em where you can stick 'em wi' the pointy end. Noses tend to alter vision, as well. Choose your attacks to maximize your advantages 'n' yer opponents disadvantages."

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"Disadvantage I understand Hida-san." Kichirou says with a nod practicing butting with the middle of the spear a few times working it into patterns of swipes and short stabs. The Scorpion's footing was still a bit shaky, he wasn't as mobile as he maybe should be but he was getting the form down relatively quickly.

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

"Or knock them far enough away from yourself that myself or one of the other priests can call on the kami to remove them from our ship."

Whether such removal would be permanent or not would depend on the priest.

[Akodo Jishaku]

Jishaku nods and grabs a training spear. He holds it in an approximation of Dageki's stance from the previous training session. It doesn't look like he is that comfortable with the yari but seems determined to give it a go.

[Shiba Naomi]

"Good morning, Akodo-sama," Naomi greeted Cub as he arrived.

"Try to flow with the movements of the boat, Bayushi-san. Your sensei probably told you to move like water when you were younger, as mine did, and following the rockings from the waves helps that."

[Bayushi Kichirou]

Nodding briefly Kichirou begins trying to rock in time with the ship as it rolls and bobs through the waves. The motion does seem to make the Scorpion more stable on the deck but its taking a toll on the timing of his jabs and swipes.

[Akodo Jishaku]

Jishaku gives the Shiba a smile and continues to work on getting the feel of the long weapon. At least the roll of the ship did not affect him. "Can you suggest a few drills to practice -samas?"
