Peace and Ponies [Moon 18/D3, Early Morning, Open]

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

"No, the few times I have tried divination, I used less savory methods." She hops up and carefully sets the octopus jar on the floor. "How do they work?"

[Asahina Narumi]

"I'll show you," she says. She assumes seiza on the floor and sets a small bowl from her obi pouch in front of her. She shakes the coins between her hands three times and then tosses them in the bowl.

Glancing at the coins where they lie, she begins going into an explanation. "This coin's position suggests and the fact that this side is facing up suggests that wisdom will be granted. This other coin, being so far away suggests that the reading has something to do with something distant and since it is facing down this suggests that it might be foreign or strange. Since the nearest coin to it is the coin denoting wisdom, something strange or unfamiliar will grant wisdom. These two that are off to the side are not very good omens by themselves. When this side of a coin is facing up and it is on another coin, it is generally a warning. And the coin that it is warning us about is the coin of death. The final coin here represents water due to it's position and facing, with how close it is to the death coin I am inclined to believe that it ties the death coin to the water. Most likely drowning." She goes through the explanation slowly glancing up to the Unicorn from time to time.

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

"So the gaijin that we pulled out of the water will bring death to the ship?" She raises an eyebrow curiously. "How interesting."

[Asahina Narumi]

"The gaijin? Had he nearly been drowned? If so it is likely that this doesn't suggest that he will bring death to the ship, but that will warn us of something. That is where the wisdom from an unfamiliar source comes into play. Unless he had not almost drown, in which case the coins suggest someone may drown as a result of his being here, not necessarily a fault of his own. But if he was pulled from the water near death then it's safe to assume that the coins are not telling us he is dangerous."

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

"He was nearly dead," she confirms. "But according to your coins, we may just as likely receive a warning from the octopus, correct?"

[Asahina Narumi]

"When we read the coins it should be done in such a way that ties together all of them in some manner. A gaijin is strange and unfamiliar to us and he was nearly drowned. It is likely that he has some sort of information that has importance to us."

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

"I see..." She ponders the coins for another moment. "I wonder if he speaks Rokugani. If not...I suppose we could always ask the kami..."

Her voice trails off as she grows thoughtful.

[Asahina Narumi]

"We are headed to a foreign area, so I'd not be surprised if the Captain or the gunso's might have some foreign language training. Or perhaps they chose some recruits for that purpose?" the Asahina replies.

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

"I should hope so. Especially if your divination proves to be accurate."

Behind her, the octopus pokes its head out of the clay pot, its tentacles gradually pulling it upwards towards freedom.

[Asahina Narumi]

"The coins can be surprisingly accurate at times, and at others be incredibly vague," Narumi replies. "Today, the warnings of this gaijin should likely be taken seriously, if he chooses to share them with us," she continued.

Movement out of the corner of her eye as she looks up at the Iuchi catches her eye. "I believe your friend is attempting an escape," she says with a light harted smirk.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Just coming in with a fresh pot of khava to keep him awake in his wardship of the gaijin, O-washi stared in unabashed fascination at the sight of the captive sea creature. Unsure who was responsible, he directed his words to both. "Mina-sans...I must say, no octopus has ever been included as a part of a medical treatment Ive ever heard of. I'm therefor curious just why you thought the need to bring one here."

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki nods as she pokes the octopus back into its pot. She looks up at O-Washi as he enters. "I don't really have anywhere else to put it, Shiba-sama. If I left it in my berth, it'd just up and crawl away on me." A pause. "And then I'd have octopus slime all over my bedding."

[Asahina Narumi]

A good indication that it will likely end up as food if Isawa-gunso doesn't make her throw it overboard now. Narumi thinks to herself, she just looks back and forth between the two, not wanting to interrupt what may become a negotiation on keeping an octopus, or more likely a straight up order to get rid of it.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"I see." A small frown creased black brows. "And why, may I ask, is it aboard at all?"

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

"Octopuses are good luck!"

She pokes the creature's head back into the pot as it peeks over the edge.

[Isawa O-Washi]

The jar got another dubious look.

"Is that a Unicorn saying? Because I've never heard it..."

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Rinzuki hugs the pot to her chest.

"How is the gaijin doing?"

[Asahina Narumi]

At the mention of the gaijin, Narumi scoops up her coins and bowl, placing them back in her obi pouch. She stands and walks to within an arm's reach of the strange looking man, looking him over.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Better than he was." O-washi studed the man, too, brow furrowed. "We've kept him comfortable but I don't see much point healing him proper until we know if it's worth the kami's time or if we'll just be hurting him again later anyway."
The idea of torturing the man for information did not, it seemed, trouble the usually kindly Phoenix in the least.

[Iuchi Rinzuki]

She nods in understanding, but chooses not to comment.
