Day 2, Late Evening/Midnight, OPEN, Polishing my sword....

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

His official duties done for the day, Nobuyoshi returns to the crew's common room, fetching forth his armor and weapons once more to start the process of undoing the damages of the sea yet again. Even when stored safely below, the very air itself seemed to conspire to bring corruption to that which a samurai holds most dear. So begins again the battle against decay.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku took her blade to the armory regularly for polishing and care. Not to the common room. No, to the common room she brought her bottle of shochu. Seeing that tonight she isn't alone the woman clears her throat and offers a bow.

"Evenin' Bayushi-san," she murmurs with a crooked smile. "Hope ya don' mind if I join ya." With that the Badger plops down unceremoniously at the other side of the table, setting her bottle and a sake cup down before her."Usin' yer own polish? There's a stock of it in the armory if ya run out."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

The drapes dividing the women's portion of the crew quarters opened to reveal a mask-less Hoshi with a bundle cradled in one arm protectively. She lifted one brow as her only show of surprise to find Nobuyoshi polishing his arms in the same spot. No fear of deja vu with the Ichiro joining him though. She politely bowed to both while keeping her distance. "Good evening Bayushi-san and Ichiro-san."

The Scorpion stands and bows as the Badger enters the common room.

"Not at all, Ichiro-san." he comments, his voice quiet, flat and emotionless. "It's easier to bring the polish from the armory, than the equipment to the armory. Not to mention how cramped it is in the armory. "

He examines the hilt guard and it's pins, looking for any sign of corrosion.

"Besides, you meet more interesting people in here than down there, even at this hour." he comments.

He glances at her shochu bottle.

"An uneventful day on the foredeck, I take it? he asks.

As Hoshi enters, he turns his attention to her long enough to greet her with a proper bow, then resumes what he's doing.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku nods at the Scorpion's explanation. Made sense. As Hoshi wanders into the room the Badger turns her gaze to her and bows. "Evenin," is her simple greeting, coupled with that same polite crooked smile. "Been an alright day," she turns her attention back to the burgeoning conversation, shrugging. "Not a whole heck of a lot goin' on. Either of ya care for a drink? Bought this here shochu before I left Clear Water," her smile widens just a bit. "It's the good stuff."

Remember, it's not drinking rotgut with a Badger, it's sharing a drink with a member of the Imperial Legions, it's not drinking rotgut with a Badger.... Nobuyoshi thinks to himself.

"Of course, Ichiro-san, let me go fetch my cup. Nobuyoshi offers. A quick trip to the men's quarters sees him back with a flat saucer like cup, easily concealed within one's obi, in Scorpion red and black.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi smiled faintly at the offer. "Shochu from Clear Water? If I had known that everyone here was so thoughtful, I should have brought something of my own. I'll be happy to join you...-ah, if you can excuse me on an obligation first."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku nods to both Scorpion. "Of course," she murmurs, pouring herself a cup then moving the bottle to the middle of the table. Her last bit of drinking had been done on her own. Was certainly nice to have a couple others around.

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

While he might wait for Hoshi to drink, there was nothing wrong with continuing the conversation while she was away.

"Nothing of real interest happening on the aft deck either," Nobuyoshi rejoins. "Well, unless you are interested in tales of grumpy Moshi-gunsos or Kakitas with more skill in iai than common sense."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi gave both samurai a bow to excuse herself then continued her way in the quarter, which wasn’t far. She found the same spot that the Asahina used for her prayers yesterday, assuming that would be the quarter’s unofficial place of worship. Carefully unravelling her bundle, it revealed a hardwood statue of the Fortune Hotei, not uncommon material in make but well crafted to detail. She set the jolly Fortune carefully in the corner and knelt down to begin her silent prayers.

"What's this about a Kakita?" apparently she was a bit interested, the Badger leveling a somewhat curious gaze at Nobuyoshi. Glancing at Hoshi only to find her praying Yakusoku lifts her cup to her lips for a quick drink.

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi takes a moment to pour from the bottle into his cup, and take a drink. After all, it'd be rude not to drink, and of course, now he'd have the excuse of had been drinking.

"Mmmm, Kakita Sugita is who I am referring to Ichiro-san." Nobuyoshi offers. "If you've ever taken in a bad play that featured a boorish lord of the kakita family who used their family's skill in dueling to cover their dull wits, well....

"At any rate, Kakita-san is apparently hard of hearing. So since I'm a Scorpion and he couldn't hear what I was saying, obviously I was muttering dishonorable things about him, his family, and the horses they rode in on."

Nobuyoshi shrugs.

"Not exactly empire shaking news, like I said." he offers.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku snorts. "I see. Not news at all really. I've known a few of that type." Once again her cup makes its way to her lips; a longer drink this time. "Still, news or not I like to know 'bout the crew. 'Specially when it comes to people who could be good sparrin' partners."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi nods, carefully sipping his drink.

"Although I think his case would be one of 'Good sparring partner' in the sense that it would be fun for someone to remove the smile from his face, rather than in improving their skill." Nobuyoshi offers. "His summary of Yasuki Himiko was 'Fierce' and there was just something in his tone that made me think....well, that he took her less than seriously."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku chuckles softly. "I suspect that if it came to blows Yasuki-san could take just about anyone on 'ere. Not takin' her seriously'd be a mistake. Already seen her trainin' some of the ladies in jiujutsu. Knows what she's doin', that's for sure. Really lookin' forward to sparrin' with that one."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi nods.

"She's good, although she lost her spar with Isawa-gunso, and if it's weapons sparring, I'm not sure who could beat Moshi-gunso." Nobuyoshi offers quietly. "Hida Musasha would be a good one to spar with if you're looking to improve your skills. He actually won his spar with Isawa-gunso, and he actually gives fairly sound advice it seems."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi's devotions didn't eat up all of the hour's time, she was no priestess, but the time she gave up was respectful and unaffected by pressure. When she finished her prayers, she carefully packed up the statue again with care and returned to the women's side of the quarters. She would emerge again with a red cup this time, painted with gold accents and designs of autumn leaves close to the base.

Joining the others, she smiled faintly as she sat down her cup on the table. "I hope there's still some left for me minasan. Good to hear that there aren't a lack of sparring partners on board."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Been trainin' with Hida-san some already. Haven't sparred just yet, but we'll get there." With Hoshi rejoining the table Yakusoku offers her a smile and pushes the bottle her way. "Of course Bayushi-san. Here ya are."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"Domo Ichiro-san." Hoshi said simple while giving glance to the offered bottle on the table. Mm, this is troublesome... She did reach for the bottle without a noticeable pause eventually and poured herself a cup. "I haven't spoken with Hida-san but seeing him how he conducts himself, I can see how his pragmatic methods would make him popular in the armoury."

"Aye. Always good to 'ave a few pragmatists on a ship," if she saw Hoshi's hesitation she doesn't acknowledge it. Instead she lifts her cup for another quick drink. "Ah, Crab shochu. Thinkin' I'll stick to one cup tonight."
