The oppressive atmosphere did little to change the Moshi's routines as she finished her Sun salutations. She sauntered towards the covered ballistas, and like the day before, uncovered three of them for the training exercise to come. Kaimenko didn't leave the tarps on the ground, but folded them neatly away. It didn't do to tempt fate for one the trainees to trip on them and fall overboard.
As the day before, she examines the machines to make sure everything was in order as she waits for this batch of students to show up.

Jishaku arrives early and waits around unobtrusively. When the gunso is ready he walks over to join her for the lesson, offering a bow. "Gunso." Today he wears his navy-issue trousers and a light sleeveless shirt. Knowing that this gunso isn't one for small talk he simply stands quietly and inspects the weapons she has uncovered.

Hikaru appears on deck a moment later dressed in the grey uniform provided by the Legion. A small alteration has been made. A sightly smaller Ikoma mon has been added next to the Imperial mon.
Hikaru bows and says "Morning Gunso-sama, Akodo-san."

Also wearing one of her Navy-issued uniforms, Qulan approached the small group with a bow. "Moshi-gunso, Akodo-sama, Ikoma-sama..."

Chihiroko arrived after the Lion dressed in the provided uniform. Her hair was pinned up and out of her face, no jewelry present on such an ominous morning.
Paying no mind to the voices, she bowed appropriately and moved off to the side to wait for the day's activities to begin.

Not unexpectedly, their greetings weren't returned as the woman crouches down beside one of the grooves in the deck to clear it of dust. Her eyes turn towards the heavens as her arm to the elbow, scraping away any more debris from around the stock. The whole mess was shoved overboard and her hand unceremoniously cleaned on her trousers.

Masamichi shows up in naval issue clothes with a spring in his step and a wicked grin. He bows to the group wordlessly looking over the ballistas with great consideration, twirling his moustache between his fingers.

Xiao Hua was present, in his new dress uniform, nervously fingering something through his shirt as he occasionally shot a nervous glance at the sea.

Amuro arrived and gave a small nod to each present, more as an acknowledgment of presence than anything else. He carefully and politely remained a step back from the group as a whole and silent as his commanding officer had yet to acknowledge his, or anyone's arrival.

Her gaze cuts towards the twitchy Iuchi, catching his eyes. When the woman speaks, her voice is calm and even soothing, "Xiao Hua-san, I realize this is especially hard on you because of your connection to the kami. However, I am going to remind you that the Unicorn faced worse to return to the Empire from the Burning Sands. Relatively speaking, we are safe as long as we remain on the ship. The best way to ignore it is to keep busy and to learn what you can do with these to protect the crew. Do we have an understanding?"

Chihiroko glanced to the Unicorn who had been called out but didn't say anything. She just kept to herself. It wasn't the first time she'd encountered twitchy kami.

Snapping his attention to the gunso, the man simply replied. "Aye, ma'm." It was painfully obvious that he was somewhat embarrassed, however.

"Ballistas," her voice rises to cut through the keening of the wind and waves, "Who wants to demonstrate that they have a bit of learning shoved between their ears and tell me what these beauties are capable of? Anyone?"
The woman's eyes sweep over her gathered students.

Fuichi steps forward. "I have heard of ballistae hobbling the masts of ships, as well as being effective" a breath "anti-personnel devices."

"Puncturing the hulls of enemy ships, damaging masts, slicing men clean in half." He
looks at the weapon thoughtfully.
"Putting big holes in sails too, though that's a trickier prospect. Range of accuracy in the region of 250 feet if I'm not mistaken gunso."

"Correct, for the most part," the woman confirms, giving the Akodo a brief nod as he gives the specs. "However, I'm going to point out gentle like that I don't want to see any of you knuckle heads aimming for people, masts or sails. You are, in your inexperience, just as likely to miss as to hit something and frankly we don't have the ammunition to waste in a real fight. Aim for the hull, closer to the water line the better."
She doesn't pace as she continues evenly, "That said, are there actually any of you who have operated a ballista?"

Despite knowing the operational specs of most every weapon available, Jishaku was no expert on firing siege weapons. He smiles when the Asahina speaks up, recognising the enthusiasm in the man's voice.

"Fabulous, why don't you come up here and show folks how to load up one of these beauties?" she moves to the side and removes another tarp, revealing a rack of large and (likely) heavy darts. "And try not to get your face rat caught while you do it."
This tarp is folded as well and tucked away as her hands go to her hips, waiting for the Asahina to hop in to action.
