[Moon 13, Aft Deck, Evening] Strolling the Deck (Open)

Hoshi was found topside as the sun had descended down for the evening, making the rather ominous skies around them even more dreadful around them. She hadn’t forgotten where they were and found little comfort with using her free time for just leisure. To her, she found better relaxation in knowing that they were safe.

Crossing her bare arms together, she started the beginnings of an informal patrol in the brisk evening.

Someone who seemed to be on a more formal patrol was one of the various peasants that worked on the ship. She stood out mostly from the sheer number of scars that covered her features, her tan being rather close to as hardened and dark as the veterans of many years her senior. A kama rested at her side, as did a sai on the other side and she watched the sides with a wary sort of caution, making a slow circuit at times and standing at post in good vantage points when she finished one full circuit.

Seeing the Scorpion, she gave a salute an a murmured "-sama," but didn't openly proceed up towards the dark haired woman. One never knew with these people how they behaved and she had plenty to watch as it was.

Hoshi drifted her attention from the seas and toward the heimen as she was incoming toward her general vague path. Her gaze in particular centred on her with some curiosity, some few milliseconds passed and she didn't exactly give her dismissal or disregard to continue on her duties as she were.

Somewhere further down the deck was a lone Mantis. Her dark brown hair was blowing freely in the wind as one of her arms was wrapped around her to stave off the chill and the other saw to the kiseru between her lips. The Mantis shugenja's eyes were closed as she stood there listening to screams. She didn't want to see the faces staring back at her.

Amaya didn't frown. Kami gut me with a spoon and eat the entrails for breakfast with a good stiff sake. A formal one. Well, I know how to deal with those on the mainland, but this one's not giving me any... oh wait, that will work. I guess I'm watching my post here while the green one handles the post up ahead. Yeah... that'll work.

She remained after her salute standing in the general viscinity of Hoshi, not presuming to speak further unless spoken to, not presuming to leave unless dismissed. It was easy enough to keep an eye on the ropes from here and to watch if any slack was picked up for the moment. A more distant salute to the Moshi if she was in closer range was easy enough to do, but for now, she could wait and watch to see what... if anything, this Bayushi was going to do.

Satisfied the heimen stopped under her implied attention, she crossed her arms and spoke directly to Amaya. "How long have you been serving on board?"

She looked around, keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings while she counted on her fingers without looking. "Just shy'f a week, -sama. Came on board right 'fore the ship went off on this trip," she said, keeping strictly to the questions asked for the moment. "Just conscripted recent."

Hoshi gave a quick nod of her head, it seems not the veteran that she was hoping for and likely knows less than what she gathered around here. "And before?" Came the next question.

Chihiroko heard voices in the distance and turned to peek at who they belonged to. Seeing a fellow samurai, she bowed in acknowledgement but remained silent. She hadn't been addressed, after all.

The bow was returned with the salute that she'd seen the peasants giving in the direction of the Moshi. "'fore I was conscripted, spent my days on the sampans off the coast of the Crane, -sama," she said, nodding. "Fishing work, sailing, tending boats along with th'docks. That sorta thing most of my life."

Seeing the Moshi take notice of their conversation, Hoshi disregarded the ashigaru (?) for a moment enough to greet the woman with a polite bow. She looked back to Amaya for her answer, casually taking note of her origins but there was more than enough heimen about to start worrying of this one. "Being here is far different than dock work, how does it compare?"

"Longer voyage," she said, scratching her chin and looking left and right again. It wasn't quite nervous, more just a sort of perpetual watchfulness she seemed to adopt. "The boat heaves a little different than a sampan. Gotta carry more stores. More samurai by far. That changes a bit, -sama. That, an this weather..."

Hoshi slowly turned her gaze and paid quick regard to the environment around them, she didn't linger too long for obvious reason though. "More than just weather." She added to her story. "Do you handle the fishing for the ship as well?"

"Not a great fisher. Mostly tend boats, ropes, sails, do some scouting and help make sure things are trimmed. But, I've got some skill at bringing certain kinds of fish in, so I do that kinda thing when called for," she said, nodding. "All depends on th'fare. I don't think there's much call for fishin right now, but this place's weird for a sea..."

"It's the Sea of Shadows from what I've heard, of course it's weird of a sea." She informed the heimen, getting the feeling that she's probably repeating herself from what she must have been told already. Her eyes took on some amused interest, sounding a little skeptical. "Not much of a fisher but you're able to hunt for fish? Okay then."

"I hunt fish ya don't catch'n nets, -sama," she said, bobbing her head. "Sea of ... kami. Fair enough, that's a name I've actually heard. Hope we're through this quick then." and, if the scarred creature could have looked a little paler, she did. That was not a name she particularly liked hearing, after all. Nobody, peasants especially, did.

Overlooking her fear, she pressed on with the topic of fish. "Are we talking about small fish or big fish?"

"Depends on if ya think manta rays an sharks are small fish, -sama," she said with a cough and a bit of a twisted grin. "Nothin big as ya'd find off the coast this far. I ain't stupid. Those thing's rip ya in half, but the smaller ones... those bulls, if ya catch 'em right and time it, they spear easier than a fish. Just don't wanna ruin th'fin. That's what folks like t'eat."

"-Ah, hai...Definitely big fish then, not the sort I think I will find myself keeping if I ever encounter one." She answered with some disappointment. "At least you're good with delicacy, and your name?"

"Amaya, -sama," she said, bobbing her head again as she replied to that question. "I don't know if there will be occasion for me to catch somethin like that as we're goin along. It's gonna be a long trip either way, so maybe there'll be a chance."
