Violence is its Own Reward (Moon 12, Afternoon, Aft Deck)

[Hida Musasha]

Musasha waits quietly for his training partner. Under his armor is the uniform given to him by the Imperial Navy, greys peeking out here and there as what he has between the metal and his skin.

He has a dozen or so belaying pins that aren't being used set out about him.

[Akodo Jishaku]

After finishing his lesson with the gunso Jishaku made his way across the ship to find his training partner. Hida Musasha was a hard man to miss. "Good afternoon Hida-san, I hope you weren't waiting too long? I had another lesson to attend." He looks at the belaying pins with a mixture of interest and scepticism. "So. My turn for a lesson eh?"

[Hida Musasha]

He nods, "Ya said ya wanted ta learn how ta do it. It ain't a hard weapon ta learn, more about addin' extra ta a brawl when desperate." He shrugs his shoulders, causing a few vertebra in his spine to pop. "An there're more a these aroun' than anythin' else. Best ta make use o' 'em in a pinch."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku makes her way back out onto the aft deck, dressed in light armor over her gray uniform, ono resting against her shoulder. "Hida-san!" she calls out from a distance, nodding his way before stopping to spit. After asking Suitengu's forgiveness for having to spit into his sea, she continues her approach stopping on the other side of the belaying pins. Glancing at the Akodo she offers him a quick bow, turning the axe handle against her shoulder, allowing the blade to spin. "Don't mind my interruptin'," she says with a smirk, looking between the two samurai then back down to the pins.

[Akodo Jishaku]

He gives the big man a grin. "That I did my friend, that I did. Now you say its essentially a case of adding something to a brawl. Does that mean that I should thinking along the lines of jiujutsu, or something else?"

He offers the newcomer a light bow. "Akodo Jishaku, a pleasure to meet you."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Ichiro Yakusoku. Good to meet ya," she smiles and offers a quick nod. "Hida-san here told me about yer trainin' sessions so thought I'd come an' give'em a look. If yer just gonna be knockin' each other in the head with pins though, I'll keep ma distance. Already know how to do that." Her tone was polite, teasing and laced with confidence; the smile never leaves her lips.

"You are always welcome Ichiro-san. Yesterday I was showing Hida-san some kenjutsu techniques, today I get bruised with belaying pins." He smiles wryly. "Always something new to learn, and I don't like the idea of letter my swords get over-exposed on the voyage."

[Hida Musasha]

Musasha waves as the Ichiro approaches, "Welcome, girly, always nice ta have somethin' other than work ta focus on."

He waits for the two to get their introductions out of the way. "There'll be plenty o' time ta learn the heavy weapons. Though, I'd keep in mind we ain't to far from danger at th' moment." He makes a warding gesture, "it ain't all Suitengu's grace out on that water. We're mighty close ta home fer me."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"There certainly will be," the woman nods snorting slightly and grinning what would be a now-familiar, challenging grin at Musasha, "though I just kid 'bout the pins. May join in on this trainin' a bit too. Been in enough brawls to hold my own but there's always room to get better. Especially if we may be encounterin'..." she glances off to the west, "unsavory things."

He nods, "Sure, tho, I'm jus' showin' th' Akodo here th' basics. Fundamentals are important, tho." He picks up a couple o' them.

"These're good fer lots a reasons. Th' obvious one is as a club." He swings it a few times to show it. "Less known is that they pack one helluva punch when thrown." He throws one at a coil of rope in the corner, it hits squarely, sliding the whole coil a foot. "Ya ken use 'em like that if yer assailed from below while in th' riggin'."

[Akodo Jishaku]

"Multifunctional? Useful." He picks one up and swings it a few times, clumsily at first, but getting somewhat better when he uses it as an extention of an unarmed combat technique. With a flick of his wrist the Lion throws the pin and hits the rope in the same spot as the Crab had, almost moving the coil as far as Musasha.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Laying her ono out of the way on the deck, Yakusoku picks up one of the pins and gives it a few swings. It was familiar, the woman having learned to employ the tools aboard a ship as weapons over the last couple years. It wasn't as comfortable in her hand as a sword but she knew if push came to shove it could get the job done. "Multifunctional and enough to knock a man senseless if ya gotta. Never seen one kill a man in a shot, but it can be done; I've heard stories. That and they're more than enough to knock someone off the edge of the deck." she gives the pin a toss, hitting the rope square and grinning as the coil slides.

"Alright then, we can all throw them rather well. How about showing me how to use these in melee?"

[Hida Musasha]

Musasha nods. "The meaner you are wi' it, the more effective. Th' enemy will think yer an easy target at first. Ya gotta make 'em think yer actually unhinged." The big man does a "kata" that if it were in battle, most unseasoned warriors would flee in the opposite direction. With a belaying pin in each hand, you can almost imagine him bashing noses off, and putting out eyes with the sharp underside. As he finishes, "See, it ain't about lookin' pretty, it's all about sendin' 'em runnin' toward yer crewmates who got th' katana or makin' 'em pause jus' long enough ta get an arrow in th' leg afore you bust their noses off."

To his credit the Akodo's mouth remains in place, although spiritually it is hanging wide open at this point. After the kata is finished he nods slowly. "Not quite the sort of thing the ancestral techniques of the Akodo were developed for, but there is a first time for everything." He slips into a stance that is better suited for freedom of movement, and reels off a few strikes with somewhat more grace than his instructor. Not quite as devastating or scary, but likely enough to do some damage.

[Hida Musasha]

He nods, "Ya got th' basics. But don' worry about lookin' graceful. If all ya got ta hand is a belayin' pin, yer most likely in trouble. Amember, we survive ta protect our crewmates, if you fall, so will one o' th' priests."

[Akodo Jishaku]

"I'm not worried, I always look this graceful." He smiles and nods at the big man's advice.

[Hida Musasha]

The Hida nods. "Alright, then, ya want ta try ta hit me?" He pulls his helmet on for the first time in the voyage. "It ain't gonna do much damage ta me, but th' feel will let ya know what yer lookin' at."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku picks up one of the pins, tossing it into the air a couple feet and then catching it. "I'll hit ya," she offers in a jesting voice. Then, turning to Jishaku, she nods to the Lion and gestures toward Musasha. "Nah, you go 'head. I already know how ta swing a belayin' pin. I'd just be hittin'em for fun."

[Akodo Jishaku]

The Lion just nods. WHAAAAANNNNNGGGGG! Jishaku lands a blow solidly on the helm, Crab armour blunting the force but still allowing it to be felt. He grins at the others. "Hmm, quite a fun little weapon I suppose."
