Once again, O-washi and several of the ship's ashigaru were gathered on the aftdeck, waiting for the samurai to come for their day's training. In light of the drubbing that the seniormost among them had taken the day prior, O-washi was currently working with some sort of noxious-smelling ointment over the man's bruised ribs, his low booming laugh rolling over the deck as he teased about tangling with Lions with only a single spear.

Nozomi approaches, and bows almost cheerfully to the obscenely large man. A look of concern flits over her face watching him apply ointment to the ashigaru. "Eto... I c-can... er... if y-you'd li-like..."

Qian-Fan arrived early and his absence from the deck all morning was now explained as his clothing had changed dramatically. He now wore his hakama and had altered one of his under kimono into a sleeveless shirt, showing the pale skin of his arms and ankles. All the cloth was in proper Phoenix orange of course. Sandals had also been left in his chest along with his wakizashi and all his original spell scrolls. Fresh copies of each spell rested in his satchel now. The final change to his appearance was his hair, now gathered in a long braid hanging over his left shoulder.
He hazarded a shy smile at the big Isawa as he bowed and began to fiddle with the end of his braid, more than a little self conscious of his new appearance.

Bayushi Nobuyoshi reports for his group assignment on the aft deck. The Phoenixs are expected, the Crane is not. Still, he bows as is proper to those assembling. His style of dress has not in fact changed from yesterday, though for those with a very fine eye for detail, he has spent extra time undoing the damage yesterdays exercises subjected his armor to.

The little healer was given a grin but O-washi, it seemed, was done with his task. "Thanks for the offer, Shiba-san, but Dageki here's a tough one, he'll be just fine." Playfully, he smacked the spearman (very gently) in the shoulder, sending him off to his fellows. "At least until he's called out to play with you lot. After that, well, we'll see."
Looking over the growing assembly, he spotted the armored Scorpion and snickered. "Oi, Bayushi-san...you better hope Moshi-sama doesn't decide you're ignoring her lessons." As his glance moved onward, the Agasha got a long lookover, followed by an approving nod. "See you listened, though, Agasha-san...good on you."

He nodded back to the big Isawa while wishing he had someone equally as large to hide behind. This little clothing, in public, just didn't feel right to Qian-Fan. It was going to take a while to get used to.

Dageki looked with not entirely disguised contempt at the weak whispering samurai who had approached him. And it was likely only O-Washi's send off that kept her from a tongue lashing from the Ashigaru. The two women archers were present again, calmly looking over the crowd, though they kept an eye in the sky, just in case that one Phoenix decided to fly over head and vomit on them.
Dageki was too busy measuring up the samurai who had come as though they were livestock.

Naomi was up and ready with the sun, and arrived for the second day of orientation. Knowing that their instructor today was O-Washi gave her some relief, as she had found the Moshi gunso's method of instructions rather awful, and she gave a cheerful bow to O-Washi.
She wore the same clothes she had worn since they set sails, plain hakama and a sleevless top. Another bow was given to her fellow recruits, and she then calmly waited for today's instructions to begin.

Nobuyoshi shakes his head at the gunso's remark.
"Not at all, gunso-sama" he replies with a voice a bit louder than he usually uses. "Lesson one: Don't fall off the ship. Lesson two: Don't fall on people wearing armor."
"I think I have it." Nobyoshi says politely.

Naomi got a bow and a smile but the words of the Scorpion had O-washi's attention drawn back to the quiet man.
"Don't fall on people" ?" Brows furrowed slightly on the Phoenix's face. "I don't recall that being part of the planned curriculum...how'd that come up?"

"Moshi-gunso had one of the crewmen slam into a heavily armored Crab by swinging from the riggins so as to catch people off-guard. " Nobuyoshi explains dispassionately. "From that height and speed for the crewman, it's roughly the same effect as a Crab striking you with a tetsubo."

The Scorpion wasn't incorrect in his assesment. Though, on reflection, a tetsubo might have actually given Chuckles more of a clean break... Nozomi ponders this a moment, comparing the types of injuries that would have been sustained by each. At least he hadn't collided with the Crab head-first. That would have been more cleanup than healing...
She quietly continues the mental comparison while waiting for the rest of the samurai to show up.

Sayuri arrives arrayed much the same as yesterday. This wasn't the seas by Crab lands, and armor wasn't necessary every hour of the day. But for training? No sense doing something without it and finding the same task harder later when she's wearing it. Once again she settled at the back of the crowd, well able to see over them.
Besides, no sense interrupting the conversation up front.

"Should have kicked him off rather than a full collision."
The Agasha didn't quite realise he'd said that out loud as he continued to attempt to hide in plain sight.

"Huh."
After rubbing his beard, the gunos came to a decision. Turning to the ashigaru, O-washi bellowed, 'Dageki! Get over here and reeducate Bayushi-san!"
Smiling, he explained, 'You learned the wrong lesson. It's not that you shouldn't...it's that you should use the proper form. Chuckles needs a boot up the a*# about maneuvers again, it seems. Since this is part of what I'm to teach, no time like the present..."

Nobuyoshi bows to the gunso.
"As you say gunso-sama. " Nobuyoshi says flatly.
"We're all here to learn." he says with more determination than anything else he's said on board.

Smirking, Dageki moves forward with his spear, looking the Scorpion over for a few moments, obviously without fear of the samurai. "Hai, gunso-sama."
Initiative!

While the other two lined up, O-washi turned to the other recruits. "Dageki here's the best spearman we have, unless one of you's got a secret to share with the rest. He'll be teaching you all the rudiments because there's precious few ways better for combat over a rail. If Bishamon-kami's with him, he'll be showing the right way to knock a man into the drink. After that, we'll have a bit more of a lecture about cross-decks warfare."
Then he settled against the rails, grinning in obvious eagerness for the fight.

Iniative:
50Stance: Attack
TntbH by Dageki: 35
Free action: Draw Katana
Call 3 raises for disarm attack: Result after raises:
26Assuming that hits 2k1 for shock of the blow:
6Void Spent on opposed strength roll if successful maneuver:
14*At GM's discretion, wooden handled weapons like spears may break when subjected to disarms by steel weapons
The Scorpion nearly literally leaps into action, his katana clearing the saya before some of the recruits can say "Oh snap!" But his target is not the smirking Dageki's head, though it's tempting, the target of his swing is the innocent spear in Dageki's hands.
