Iuchi Rinzuki was once again manning the sick bay, clad once more in her white, two-layered, sleeveless kimono. This time, however, she had brought a pillow book along with her, just in case it ended up being another day without any sick crew members.
As the boat lurches beneath her, she shifts her weight to the other side of the surgery table she is sitting on and calmly turns the page of her book.

Having had it from one of the eta that at least one of his Cousins was likely to end up here soon, the big Isawa had been sure to bottle a few doses of the stomach remedy he'd concocted down in the distillery. Bottle in hand, he sauntered into the bay as if he lived there which, in a way, was somewhat true.
Seeing the rather pretty Iuchi perched on a table, he grinned, bowed, then offered, "You know, shapely as your rear might be it's not exactly sanitary to put it where we have to occassionally cut peoples' bits off."

Rinzuki looks up with an amused smile, and closes the book in her lap. "Are you suggesting that my bottom is unsanitary?" she asks, one eyebrow raising in good-natured humor.

"More that the unclean nature of the work that happens there might sully the spirit of such a fine young maiden."
His eyes, deep-water blue, took in every inch of her as he moved past to set the bottle carefully into a nook, tying it in place with a bit of twine so it wouldn't spill if the boat rolled.
"So, are you here for help or to help others?"

"The latter." She hops down from the table and offers him a bow. "Iuchi Rinzuki, of the Baraunghar. Famed throughout the Empire for having a bottom as clean and pure as the newly fallen snow." The last was said with a smirk on her lips and a teasing tone in her voice.

"Depending what it just fell off of, snow's none too clean." He grinned back and returned her courtesy. "Isawa O-washi. Gunso, formerly of the Tsunami Legion. If you get assigned to the bay, I'll be overseeing most of your time not spent topside learning the more general craft."
After a moment, he smirked.
"Strange to see so many of your kin on a ship. I hope you're better off then your poor Clanmate on those general skills...poor thing told me she came here with naught but book learning and a few knots."

"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Isawa-sama." Rinzuki gives him a shrug of her small shoulders as she looks up at him. "I am sure that Shinjo-sama was merely downplaying her own merits.
"As for myself, I consider myselg a skilled shugenja and healer, but this is only my second time aboard a ship."

"That's better than none and likely a lot for one of your Clan, neh?" He shook his head, grinning still. 'You'd think by now I'd be used to first-timers but it's always a bit of a shock to me. Sometimes I have a bit of a game when I'm up on the watch at night, trying to work out in my head the things people must have done to get here when they don't even know the difference between the bow and the stern, much less how to furl a sail properly."

"That certainly sounds amusing," she says with a pleasant smile. "Since you know both Shinjo-sama and myself, might I inquire as to your best guesses for the each of us?"

As he considered the question, the Isawa began looking through one of the cabinets, taking out a few small jars as he moved. "Well, now...in her case, I'd guess that perhaps it was just eagerness to travel. Not much is left unseen in the Empire and few enough ways to leave it overland unless one's a Moto. Since she said she's not met many I don't think a Sands expedition was an option. That leaves the sea."
Putting the jars down, O-washi looked at Rinzuki again. "As for yourself...well, now, I haven't had much more than a greeting and a bit of interesting gossip. It takes a bit more than that to make guesses."

Another Unicorn, this one rather obviously male, dressed in simple white gi and purple ko-bakama walked into the sick bay, knocking the side of the 'door' before stepping in.
"Excuse me... " Turning to the giant of a man, he continued, bowing. "Isawa-gunso I assume?"

After an assessing look, O-washi bowed. "Indeed, I see my reputation precedes me...hopefully the good parts." The man grinned. "Can I help you?"

Rinzuki grins and begins to respond to O-Washi, only to be interrupted by the arrival of another Unicorn. She bows to him, but remains quiet for the moment, not wanting to interrupt a samurai of higher status.

Nodding briefly to his Clanmate, the man addressed the officer. "Aye, sir. Iuchi Xioa Hua, Sir." he introduced himself briefly.
"Seeing that you have served on a ship for a while, I was wondering if you knew a way to protect one's scrolls against the elements. I have prepared copies of my scrolls, but.." he left the question hanging in the air, waiting for his reply.

"Ah!" The gunso's face lit up at the idea of such a simple question. "There's a special ink that helps with that, not to mention a particular sort of paper...they make it out of bamboo instead of wood. We've a bit of both on board but I suggest you make a spare copy of your spells and keep 'em in your chest."

Rinzuki places a hand on her (quite fashionable) spell satchel and resolves to make some copies of her own scrolls that very night.

"Bamboo would float at least." he nodded. "I have taken some precautions that even if I fall over board, I should stay mostly dry but... the waves and the rain." he told the huge Isawa, nodding.
"Another thing, as you probably know if you have seen our files, is that I have worked with medicine. I am not... master of it, by any means. But I can probably manage if you happen to need an extra pair of arms."

"No one shows the gunso files and, even if they had, I wouldn't be going from them." The big Isawa snorted in amusement. "What you could do on land when you came isn't as important as what you can do now that you're on the sea. We'll be seeing just what you can do starting tomorrow, now that most of you're done bending over the rail. Still, the offer is noted."

Bit dumbfounded, the man only replied. "Aye, sir."

That just made O-washi laugh. "Don't look so stricken...you may turn out to have a marked skill for something, did you ever think of that?"
