[Akodo Jishaku]

Jishalu lets Musasha press him, it was a good confidence building exercise. After defending against a score of attacks he goes on the offensive, pressing the larger man back toward the railing. "While your people have been keeping us safe from monsters, mine have been working on our sword skills. Hopefully I can help you learn a few new tricks, and next time you can choose the weapons." He smiles and this time takes the Crab's legs out from under him cleanly, rather than pushing him back over the railing for a morning soak.

[Hida Musasha]

The big man falls backwards, but rolls with it, ending up on his feet against the railing...the wood bowing behind him. He nods, "Maybe I'll teach you how to use a belaying pin." He points at all the pegs used to tie down ropes. "They are removable, and act as a good weapon when caught completely off guard."

[Akodo Jishaku]

Jishaku bows. "I would be honoured, Hida-san. And likely also bruised." The smile is infectious.

[Hida Musasha]

He nods, "Good. Now show me how you struck goin' fer my legs again. That kin be useful."

[Akodo Jishaku]

Jishaku nods and demonstrates the technique three more times before letting the Crab have a go against him. "If you cut and twist like so then you may hamstring your opponent. If you just want to knock them down then you might do it like so. Alright, your turn."

[Hida Musasha]

Musasha gives it a go, his movements slow the first time or two so he can memorize the technique. "It's good to know a way ta capture a man. I'd likely kill 'im by hackin' the leg right off."

[Akodo Jishaku]

"Well the shock will usually kill a man if you hack a limb off, but sometimes there is enough spirit for a man to keep fighting regardless. Usually just long enough to offer a return blow. The advantage of tripping someone aboard ship is that your shipmates can have an easier time of finishing them off." He nods at Musasha. "Have a few more goes, the more time you do it the more reflexive it will become."

[Hida Musasha]

He keeps testing out the technique, and it isn't long before he understands the principle behind it. "Would it be more dibilitatin' ta hit 'em here, on the outside o' the knee?"

[Akodo Jishaku]

The Akodo nods. "If you hit them here, here or here you will most likely cripple them for the duration of the fight. The kneecap can only take so much punishment, which is why we don't target it at anywhere near full force in sparring." Light taps back up the Lion's words. "A good solid blow even with a training weapon will likely reduce your opponent's movement unless they are in the correct stance to take the force of the blow, which is where the finesse I was talking about earlier comes in."

[Hida Musasha]

He nods, "A lot ta remember ta use a katana. Wi' a tetsubo, the only graceful attack is hittin' 'em in the right spot on the spine ta completely take their water outta them. They never walk again, which makes 'em easy ta get infermation from."

[Akodo Jishaku]

"Sounds brutally effective Hida-san. Hopefully you will come to see the worth of the sword as our lessons progress. I won't bore you with the philosophy of the different schools...frankly it bores me to sleep." He grins and shows Musasha a few different drills.

[Hida Musasha]

He nods, accepting the tutelage. "It ain't that I don' see the worth o' th' sword. I seen it do plenty a' killin'. I jus' never had ta worry about th' honor o' my enemy afore. It changes th' rules o' th' game."

[Akodo Jishaku]

"Well don't forget that it is only samurai who count in that regard. Pirates and gaijin have no honour for us to concern ourselves with."

[Hida Musasha]

He nods, "But how d'ya tell if their pirates as opposed ta samurai? If no one wears their daisho at sea, there ain't never gonna be a sure way, is there?"

[Akodo Jishaku]

The Lion grins. "That's easy for us Hida-san. If they are attacking the Imperial navy, then they are pirates"

[Hida Musasha]

He nods, "I hope it really is that easy, Akodo-san. It would make me far less uncomfortable here." He seems more than a little skeptical, but drops the matter, instead giving himself over to drills and training.
