[Day 4, Late Morning, Streets] Safety in Numbers

[Day 4, Late Morning, Streets] Safety in Numbers

Postby Isawa Junpei » Wed Sep 14, 2011 6:11 pm

Word had steadily spread around the ship by the hour of Hantei that the embassy on the island was in possession of a bath, and though Junpei still held his reservations about going ashore in a foreign port, he simply could not pass up the opportunity. So, traveling with a group of others from the ship, he decided to brave the port in the name of cleanliness. Of course, the opportunity to do as the captain had asked was also in the back of his mind, though he tried to reason how he could possibly hope to bring back any useful information without any means of communication besides raw body language. He chortled behind his risen sleeve, he could speak to any animal or spirit in creation, but a fellow man...that was beyond the power of magic...at least his own.

Kaito strode along nearby the phoenix garbed In a well crafted dark green kimono something he was sure most members of the crew would be surprised to know he owned. He'd mostly worn it because he figured it along with the myriad of weapons he wore would make him look important or maybe dangerous to the various gaijin about.

His eyes were on the sights and sounds around him as he took in the foreignness of it all and scanned for various places of interest to perhaps visit at a later date,

As the gathering walked down the busy streets of Lanka, Junpei moved over to Kaito. The Mantis had grown more and more familiar to the Phoenix, and though he still knew very little about him, he'd at least gleaned a kind of genuine earnestness in Kaito's work. "Yoritomo-san," Junpei began, "I'm sure you were planning on coming ashore anyway, but I'm glad you decided to join us. It's always nice to have a bushi you know along."

Kaito blinked and glanced over as the Isawa addressed him having been somewhat distracted by the scenery. "Truth be told Isawa-san I've been out once already though only really to the embassy. Decided to come back to the ship though to see if anyone else was wanting to make their way to shore. I am glad I could be of assistance to you and they rest of those here though."

(Probably gonna leave this alone for a bit to see if someone specific joins, but after I hear from them I'll continue on)

"I'm certainly grateful. Shiba Naomi-san, would never forgive me if I went among the locals by myself." Junpei minded what he said about the gaijin on the off chance that any of them knew even half a word of Rokugani. Plus, it was just polite not to insult someone to their face.

"None of us should go alone, Isawa-sama," Naomi added in confirmation. As if a Shiba would let an Isawa wander off alone in a dangerous and foreign land. "Yoritomo-san," she gave Kaito a bow.

The little Shiba had chosen to carry her daisho here now that they were on land again, but made certain to keep her distance from the gaijin.

( I was expecting as much so it's no worries to me.)

Kaito bowed in return to the small phoniex. "Shiba-san." He replied with a smile. "I think it's the first time we've actually had a chance to chat isn't it."

"Nope." He replied with a grin. "Heard a few stories here and there but nothing more then that." Adding a few moments later as a after thought. "I'm Yoritomo Kaito by the way."

"Shiba Naomi. A pleasure to make a formal acquaintance."
It was perhaps too much to hope that he would be among the few rare who actually knew this place, besides the Captain.

Junpei remained silent, letting the two get to know one another. However, he couldn't help the small smile that spread, hidden behind his sleeve, across his face thinking about a similar line of questions he'd asked the Mantis no more than a day prior.

Perhaps to the surprise of some, a rather familiar looking gaijin can be seen walking the street, slightly slower than normal as he still has a cane, but none the less he moves towards the group of samurai. Slightly behind him a quiet man who is obviously a heimin follows after the gaijin. Spotting the group of samurai, the gaijin turns and moves to approach the trio.

Well, gaijin certainly had a presence that put a damper on any conversation.
"..."

Naomi swallowed some of the spite she felt for this... foreigner, and gave him acknowledgement with a bow of her head. The words of Kaimenko reminding them not to upset any of the locals still echoed in her mind.

Junpei's attention was not immediately upon the familiar gaijin, but as his clansman turned and nodded, he could not help but look. Offering a nod of the head more out of reflex then any true respect, he forced a placed look on his face and waited to see if perhaps Kaito would address the man. Junpei was practiced in etiquette, as applicable as that was here, and would speak to the man out of courtesy, but only if necessary.

The gaijin quickly catches up to the group of samurai and places his hands in front of his face and bows slightly to the assembled people. Once he places his hands back down at his sides he starts to speak in his fluid native tongue as he looks to each one. Once he stops, the heimin behind him speaks up.

"Jayant Utpal, Ward of House Pandavah, thanks all of you for your part in returning him to land. He also says that he would like to be given the opportunity to repay the kindness that was done to him."

"Well as I was telling Isawa-san just the other day there isn't much I can tell you give you a little advice from stories I've heard here and there but nothing more then that." He replies trying to be as helpful as he can.

At the heimen's approach Kaito nods in greeting and flicks a look at the two others. "Well I can't speak for my two companions here but I have a bit of time to spare if the gentleman wants to give his thanks. Been meaning to check on him anyways after I helped pull him out of the drink." The young mantis was far calmer then his two companions perhaps even friendly in comparison.

"Eh... it was not my choice to make... it should be given to those who were there."
She was not sure if she wanted whatever gaijin did to express their gratitude, and even if it was nice, it had not been she who saved him.

The Phoenix knew that the gaijin was probably the best possible source of information, but the question became whether it would be impolite to continue his interrogation after he'd no doubt been grilled quite thoroughly by the captain after the foreigner had regained consciousness. Also, like his fellow Phoenix, it wasn't really his place to impose on the apparently stationed man.

The translator, a short and stocky man who was clearly balding far too soon, turned and relayed their responses to the gaijin. Jayant replied to the translator and he duly turned back. "He would like to thank Yoritomo-sama for saving him, and his bravery in swimming among the wreckage to get to him. He is also thankful that you would allow him to walk with you and says he knows quite a bit about Lanka."

"Ah well, he's welcome it's nice to see him up and about too." He replied figuring he was going to be doing most if not all the talking for the group. "It would be nice to have a little information about this place my companions and myself really don't know much about Lanka here and a little information about the place would be nice." He said with a smile. "Ah but where are my manner's." Turning he bowed politely to the Gaijin. "I'm one Yoritomo Kaito a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
