The small boats are a lot easier to hop into from the water. So that is what Sugita brought out. It's only 10 meters from the ship, as the bay offers decent water. "This is no beach on the eastern shores, but it'll do." Sugita says to his companion.

Itsuho wears her read and white kimono and haori, but she has it open at the moment, having underwraps and a hakama on beneath. She looks over the side of the boat into the water. "The places I have swam at rarely have beaches, but rarely have they been this deep either... is that coral down there?"

He looks over the side reflexively. "Yep. Looks like it. Different shades down here though. And I don't know what that... stuff over there is." Seaweed. Brown seaweed clumped strangely. "Lots of interesting fish here too. Like that really big one over there!" A grouper.

The Dragon frowned a little. She took off her kimono and stood in the rocking boat. "If a single one of those fish touches me, I will not be responsible for its death and destruction at my hands." She dove into the water, swimming reasonably enough even with the lapping waves and swirling tides in the waters. She surfaced, smoothing back her long black hair. "Certainly a lot... warmer than the water in the Dragon mountains."

Oh, Sugita is still laughing about the remark about killing the fish. "Maybe it's your hot blood! The poor fish don't want to hurt you." Time to join. Soon enough, Sugita is down to his fundoshi. All his modesty is put into going straight into the water with a cannonball splash.

She ducks under in a not too necessary step to not be splashed. When she comes back up she smoothed back her hair once again. "Oh, I am quite calm about this. Hotei gives me the wisdom to remain calm in such matters. That doesn't change that I will strangle the fish and give it to Cook to make into my diner if one so much as brushes a leg."

"You could take the offensive." Sugita looks downward, trying to find a good specimen. "A very tricky sport."

She shook her head slowly. "I am not a woman given to violence for its own sake. If the fish are wise, they will avoid me. If they are not, they will only have themselves to blame."

"Ah..." Kind of confused. "I suppose we can get fish for dinner without catching them ourselves." Oh well. Smiles. "It is warm. Nice. I can understand not swimming much if you're up in the mountains in frigid waters." Sugita idly starts a backstroke.

Itsuho shakes her head a little as she just treads water in place. "It is not so much that the water is cold as it's frozen much of the time, and the other half of the year the rain is rare. Much of the mountains are quite dry."

"It is difficult to swim in a tiny puddle. Why, I remember trying once!" Sugita laughs to himself.

"There are occasional mountain lakes, but they are rare, and usually quite cold, even in summer. The rivers that high up are almost always more brooks or streams, cold and fast and shallow. You could sit in it and it wouldn't even go over your leg, though it may try to freeze it off."

Sugita shivers, despite the warm water. "No thanks. I'll. Be right back." He flips over and starts swimming downward, all the way to the bottom. It's far, so the Crane only has a few moments to grab what he was going for before racing for the surface. He comes up, breathing heavily. And offers up a sea urchin. "Glad to see these exist way down here."

She looks at it quizzingly. "I... am not sure what to day to that. It is certainly very... oceany I suppose. Perhaps there is something I am missing as to why you are glad to find a little ball of spikes like that Kakita-sama?"

"Oh... Uh. It's food. You can eat it. It's good." He smiles, and offers it up. His other hand paddles to keep him afloat.

Her brow furrows as she looks at the... was it a plant or an animal? She wasn't sure. "Food you say? Well... throw it in the boat. Perhaps Cook could make something from it. That is, unless you plan to eat it raw out of the ocean."

"That is precisely what I mean to do!" He grins broadly. Until it slowly evaporates. "Um. But I don't have a knife on me." Or much else.

She points to the boat the two had taken out. "I brought my grooming knife with, in case we needed to pry or cut or something. I... am not sure about eating that though. Your mouth may get a little... spiny."

Sugita grins. "Like me, it's all gooey inside." Then he paddles over to the boat and hangs on the side. He waves Itsuho over.

Itsuho sighed and rolled her eyes. She was starting to wonder more and more if hanging around the Kakita was proving a wise idea. She swam over though with broad strokes until she too hung on the side of the boat. She reached into her small traveling bag, pulling out her knife and handing it over.
