[Day 2, Midafternoon] Survivors...?

By early-afternoon, the pieces of driftwood floating towards the fleet were man-sized. The Captain was alerted and the fleet put on alert. It wasn't long before the wreckage of several ships appeared on the horizon, once more Uminushi was alerted. The sharp sounds of the pipes cut through the air and it isn't long before a course of action is decided upon. Three of the four ships in the fleet send out a skiff to investigate the bulk of the wreckage and look for survivors. Each are given the instructions to report back with their findings.

The skiff from the Half Moon tacks through the debris, avoiding the larger pieces as the rest of the fleet keeps an eye out for the cause of such destruction.

First four PCs to join get to investigate the wreckage.

Himiko quickly made her way from the aftdeck to get in on the action. That explains the driftwood, she thinks widely. If there are any survivors, I'll have to thank them for supplying me with enough weapons for the rest of the journey. She stretched her neck out, grinning a bit as she felt the two small pops.

Rinzuki sits quietly as she skiff cuts through the water, her gaze moving from one piece of driftwood to the next as she keeps an eye out for survivors.

Usan slid the coiled rope off his shoulder and looked across the water. If anything, he did have the most unusual luck: lucky enough to be off duty and to volunteer for a search mission....that well, happened to be in the middle of the ocean. He peered at the driftwood, looking for any markings or any way to identify the destroyed ship...or its destroyer.

Kaito was ready to go he had been awaiting the skiffs departure since he had identified what had happened and shift over or not it was likely a experienced sailor would be needed.

As the skiff maneuvered through the debris field, those keen of eye would notice that some of the wood was scorched and marked by fire. Some, but not all. A few of the larger pieces bore painted symbols of a markedly foreign look, bright colors faded by sun and salt water. There was something distinctly off about the whole mess and it wasn't long before the realization struck; there should have been more bodies.

It was the first thing that those of a more military persuasion noticed.

Although there were bright scraps of cloth here and there amongst the broken masts, crates and barrels, there was an amazing lack of bodies. Especially considering there was enough wood to make at least a half dozen ships. It was obvious that the ships had been attacked, their attackers striking swiftly and decisively so that none could escape. Accounting for the currents and the drift the attack had occurred no more than three days ago and no less than a day.

These were not merchant ships. The few dead bloated bodies that did float by were incomplete, missing legs, arms, and heads. Whoever their attackers were had taken prisoners, but then, why would they destroy the ships? Regardless of their reasoning, this meant that the attackers had a base nearby to off-load their prisoners...?

"I don't think this was pirates." Said the mantis after a few silent moments of observation. "This isn't the wreckage of merchant ships and l don't think they captured any of the vessels that were raided."

Usan looked over the wreckage, then down towards the ocean depths; perhaps most of the crew were heavily armored and sunk under the depths. "Some sort of military vessel then?" He pointed to the painted symbols on some of the pieces of wood. "Over there. I don't seem to recognize those markings."

"Me either." replied the mantis after a few moments of careful examination of the markings. "Likely are warships though and as many prisoners that were likely taken means whoever took em might have a base of operations fairly nearby." He replies his eye's scanning the broken ship for signs of movement

As the sailors on the small boat continue to scan their surroundings, a larger piece of wood floats out from behind what had once been a large aft castle. The piece of wood spins lazily in the water, bobbing up and down with the waves that pass over it. On top of the board, a body lays facedown with ropes tied around his waist and around the board. Taller and longer than the board, the body's left arm and leg are dipped into the water, swaying freely with the ocean currents. His clothing looks ripped, torn, and burned from his body, leaving the dark skin exposed to the unforgiving sun to blister and pop.

The body looks like just another corpse left on the littered sea. But before the boat can pass by, a soft groan can be heard just above the noise of water lapping against wood. The sound is coming from the body.

"Survivor." Kaito calls as he points towards the groaning man. "You want me to go and fetch him or do you want to have a look at him before we move him Iuchi-san?" He asks turning towards the medic on board.

Himiko took in the scene with little apparent care. Hey, look, more driftwood. She absentmindedly picks up one of the pieces of driftwood and sets it within the boat, still not showing any real care at the scene... until she sees the survivor. "If ye wanna get the survivor, Yoritomo-san, go fer it." She continued scanning the wreckage, far more interested in the prospect of a possible fight than what's actually in the wreckage.

"Alright then keep an eye out for sharks and tentacle monsters and the like would ya?" He asks his fellow crewman scanning quickly to make sure he couldn't see any himself. "Oh and if you can get a piece of flotsam with some of the symbols on it Yasuki-san The captain might want to have a look at it."

"Remember, they can sense fear," Rinzuki reminds him as she watches the survivor. "You may wish to ensure that the survivor is actually alive, and not just...ambulatory."

"... You think he may be some sort of tainted creature Iuchi-san?" Asks Kaito pausing in his movement. It was best to figure this out before he went hopping in the ocean with it. "Should I poke him with a bit of jade or a stick or something?" He follows up the question with another his eyes moving to the tied up man.
