[Day 1 – Afternoon] Testing the Waters (Open)

(Open to one more as Hoshi isn’t particularly picky of company at the moment.)
With relatively clear waters, Hoshi was one of the samurai who decided to take out a skiff to try her hand in fishing for the day. She made sure to not travel too far from the Half Moon as waters just edging out of the Sea of Shadows weren’t immediately clear waters, it would be foolish to be that presumptuous. After her fishing line was cast, all she could do was be patient to see what these foreign seas would bring her...

Kaito sat on the skiff opposite the young Bayushi baiting his fishing hook. He really hadn't intended to come out today but he had offered to go fishing with the Bayushi once before and now seemed as good a day as any. "I guess ya figured ya needed some time away already Bayushi-san." He asked as he made his cast.

A brow show up at Kaito's direction and turned her attention back to the line that remained in the water. "That would be your guess Yoritomo-san. I could guess very much the same for you ne?" She glanced back to him once she was sure that nothing was catching on.
"Iie." She answered while brushing some hair behind her ears. "It's more because I thought this was just the opportunity to do so. We have friendlier waters now but we're not too certain when it'll last really. Oh. Mm. The breathing room certainly is very admirable here."

The mantis nodded as the scorpion replied his attention half on his fishing pole. "It's a good day for it really a bit of sun and warmth is nice after the days we just spent." He replied taking a moment to make a sign to ward off evil.
"I figure we'll see sun for the next few days at least though as I didn't smell any bad weather coming on the winds this morning."

She gave the briefest of glance at the skies. "Apparently we'll get plenty of sun wherever we're going Yoritomo-san...-Ah, but nothing to say we can't enjoy it while it is as the peak of its welcome of course. Especially when it seems your nose is the most definitive sense of telling the weather."

"True enough Bayushi-san it's certainly nice to be out of those waters." He replied as he flashed a smile at the young woman.
"As for my nose while it knows a thing or two about the weathers it's more because I 've been on the sea for long enough to tell a thing or two. I figure tomorrow will be a bit warmer then today but the winds will stick with us so it shouldn't be too bad above decks at least." He said with a casual certainty his eye's on the tip of his pole.

"Hah." Hoshi released a quiet snicker at that. "-Ah, hai then. Sure, I shall take your word for now. It doesn't sound like you're shooting for too bold of a guess and I won't differ to your prediction because of it. My experience of the seas are limited. Scorpions are freshwater creatures by habit."

Kaito nodded slightly fairly certain that the woman didn't quite believe that he could smell the weather but that she was willing to accept the statement anyways. Deciding that a change of subject was in need he thought for a moment trying to pick one that scorpion couldn't talk circles around.
Deciding at last she was a scorpion and could probably talk circles around most anything he decided to go with a simple one. "Well it isn't unusual for many of the people on this boat to not have too much experience on the sea you mind me asking what your duties were before being assigned to the imperial navy?"

Hoshi nodded once, "Mm. Easily so. I always imagined that everyone joining the Imperial navy would be a hearty sailor, at least on paper anyway. Now I have to accept that perhaps a good majority of them are conscripted or otherwise. But I don't doubt the judgment of my superiors." Maybe they thought the strange ones do best here, it wouldn't be the first time.
She glanced to Kaito with one eye and look off with an amused look, "My previous duties were with the 14th Scorpion Legion over watching Ryoko Owari Toshi. Would you happen to have a friend there Yoritomo-san?"

The mantis thought of that for about a second before answering. "Nope, can't say I do being as most of my friends are sailors. Heard a few stories about the city from some folks I've know but I can't say much about weather they were true or not having never of been there myself."

"You'll be surprised how many sailors then to find themselves deep inland. I was too, at first." Hoshi gave her line a few tugs once she felt something, no, just her imagination there. "In my few years there, I found that the City of Stories usually best experienced for yourself than allow yourself to make an impression from mere stories, because there are many of them and some more exaggerated than others. There's something troublesome about that ne?"
Hoshi shrugged. "I blame the Shosuro really. It's something about how they manage the cities in their provinces."

"Likely it is better to experience to yourself Bayushi-san." He replied with the flash of a smile. "Still enjoy a good story though I can see how they could be troublesome. Could cause people to come looking for things not to be found and the like." His own line was still for the moment as well but fishing was like that sometimes.

Hoshi gave a nonchalant shrug, “Troublesome in the stories rather than the people. If anyone wishes to come to the city looking for things, as you say, then that is a doing of human nature I can’t think faulty of. It’s unlikely that it was the city that did such a thing in the first place.”

"True enough that, cities aren't really know for spreading stories about themselves after all." He said in understanding. Though the thought of a city that could tell a story was rather interesting to him.
"Did you enjoy your time in Ryoko Owari Toshi?" He continues his eyes on the sea.

Hoshi let out an amused breath and shook her head. "That's where I'll have to disagree with you Yoritomo-san. Cities are especially known for spreading stories about themselves, some just more so than hours. The Empire's Capital and Sunda Mizu Mura are bound to be a good source of stories I'm sure, they're just more consistent than Ryoko Owari Toshi."
She gave her line a few idle tugs as her eyes drifted to the surface of the sea. "I was in the city as a guard rather than a tourist, whether or not I enjoyed the city had little to do with my time there. But...the city did have a small place where I indulged a good number of meals in their specialty of curry. Perhaps one of the few thing I'll miss about the city."

"Warm meals are surely a thing to miss at sea especially since our duty roster allows us time for just the evening meal." He thought he had a nibble on the line so pauses a moment before continuing. "Even more so if you like some of the fancier meals as aside from fish all our other provisions have to be things that will keep for a while."

There was a shake of her head given, "Hah, I'm not mourning the loss of warm meals Yoritomo-san. One chance is easily more than enough, supposedly Supaisu is a local legend within the Half Moon. Her meals aren't to be missed. But...maybe one day she'll make curry..."
Hoshi took a pause. "Mm. Oh." There were a few tugs of her line when it finally caught on to something.

"She'll tell you some interesting stories as well if ya have a ear to listen." He replied as the scorpion focused on her line. "Got something?"

"That, or my imagination is getting better..." Hoshi took firm hold of the fishing stick with one hand and pulled in the extra slack from her line until it finally revealed what had caught on her hook...
...It looks like a breed of
ocean salmon...
"...and there..." She murmured at her triumph.

"Not a bad catch at all Bayushi-san." said Kaito as he glanced over at the fish. "Seems like ya may be a natural at this."
