[Day 1 – Afternoon] Testing the Waters (Open)

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi laughed lightly as she glanced from fish to man. "One time doesn't make you a natural, as my sensei would say...but thank you Yoritomo-san. I would say this one looks familiar, would you know of his particular breed?" She asked as she lifted the fish off the waters and brought it into the skiff.

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"Looks to be a Masunosuke to me Bayushi-san." The mantis said after a few moments of thought. "Not a bad sized one either they're fairly common fish though so I'm not surprised you've seen em before."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"-Ah...?" Hoshi's eyes widened in amazement at the discovery as she held the hooked fish closer into to view. "Really?" She laughed after a double take.

"I've never seen a salmon of this size. You can be surprised if you want, we never get them this large around the River of Gold. There's a bigger share of bottom feeders than anything...This must be a very fruitful find, perhaps the ocean has blessed me with him as my first catch." She smirked as she unhooked the flopping salmon.

[Yoritomo Kaito]

Land samurai were strange creatures indeed. One moment all pomp and seriousness and the next laughing over a fish. Still though it was likely best for him not to tell the young lady he had caught a half dozen of around that size just days before.

"Perhaps it has Bayushi-san it's a fine first catch of the day after all." He replied as he watched her a small smile on his face to make sure she knew how to handle the fish on the boat. "He'll make a right proper meal for you if you so desire."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi nodded a few times. "Maybe if I'm lucky, the cook is bound to have some green onions around to go with the fish." She took a pause and lowered the salmon over the edge of the skiff. Once the fish had caught sense and breath within the water again, she released him to swim off...

[Yoritomo Kaito]

The mantis raised an eyebrow as the scorpion let the fish go. Perhaps the young lady wanted rumors of the supposed naughty things people did while not fishing on a skiff to start circulating. "Decide to save the thoughts of that meal for another day Bayushi-san?"

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi let out a quick breath under her mask that might have been a snicker as she watched the fish swim off. "Maybe...I just figured that wasn't the fish I was looking for. Nor should I be greedy with a bounty that I can't finish by myself. Surely Suitengu-kami might see virtue in that...-Ah, do you have an issue with letting our mutual acquaintance live another day Yoritomo-san?"

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"Not particularly Bayushi-san we'll likely catch more anyways," He replied as the fish swam off to do whatever lil fishies did that wasn't get eaten. "I was a just a bit surprised is all as you had seemed pleased with the catch." Definitely weird.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"There are plenty of fish in the ocean, as they've said to monotony. Being pleased with my catch is entirely different from being hungry. It was just that, an accomplishment." She shrugged nonchalantly as she tossed her line back in the ocean. "I'm sure I'll catch something more befitting, or else, I'll just have to hope you catch enough for the both of us."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"Time will tell on that account, could be I don't catch a thing." His eyes move to his fishing pole for a moment. "Truth be told though if I had the right gear for it I would be after some squid though it looks like fish will have to do."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"Squid is good, if I were to go even more exotic, jellyfish would be nice as well. Boiled with hot spices then served lukewarm..." Hoshi daydreamed for a moment then glanced to Kaito cautiously. "You had better hope you catch something Yoritomo-san, or else it would look very awkward on your part...I wouldn't want you feeling embarrassed."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"I'll catch something or I won't Bayushi-san not really too worried about it." He replied with a chuckle. "As to me being embarrassed about it maybe but it won't be too bad." That said he reached down and produced his Kiseru a moment later placing it in his mouth unlit.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi shook her head, "I'm hardly concerned with just your hurt pride Yoritomo-san, even there is much to say about a Mantis who can't catch fish maybe...But there's bound to be at least one disappointed shugenja on board if there isn't a good fresh, ne?"

[Yoritomo Kaito]

The mantis chuckled slightly at the Bayushi's comment removing the pipe from his mouth. "Perhaps though I hadn't yet set up a date to trade a fishing trip for a morning off of duty. I figure Shiba-san works the afternoon's as well so she'd likely want to take one off so she got a chance to enjoy the meal as well."

"I can see your point though." He said as he put his pipe back in his mouth and his eyes snapped to his fishing pole as teh line started to get tugged upon.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"You should be so lucky to 'smell' the weather with one of your mortal senses Yoritomo-san, I think Shiba-san has it in her mind to be out when there's good weather to be enjoyed. She would be disappointed with a rain day. You were lucky to catch her off when you did. We're not the only ones working during the mornings."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

Kaito grunted an affirmation his mind on the fishing pole and only have listening to what the Bayushi was saying. "Ya likely know the minds of young ladies better then I Bayushi-san. So I'll bow to your wisdom on this one." He replied his words slightly slurred from th epipe clenched between his teeth as he hooked the fish on his line.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"I have some advantage, I can only guess better Yoritomo-san." Hoshi shrugged openly.

"Now it's your turn to have something. I hope it's not the same fish."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

It wasn't or at least it likely wasn't as several moments later the mantis pulls his own salmon from the waters. Looking it over for a few moment's he unhooks it and smacks it over the head with a small club in the skiff before placing it behind him in the boat. "I think we may have stumbled upon a school of them Bayushi-san."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi watched him claim his catch from her side of the skiff and nodded twice in approval. “So we are in good fortune today, or the ocean could very well be a much small place than we thought. Congratulations on the first official catch of the day Yoritomo-san.”

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"Arigato Bayushi-san." He replied as he took his pipe out of his mouth and returned it to its place. His lucky fishing pipe had served him well once again. "It does seem Haruhiko-no-kami favors us this day."

Though if you are looking for a slightly different fish perhaps we should move a bit and try our luck elsewhere?"
