[Day 2, Late Morning] Currents - OPEN

The cushions surrounding the table have been piled in a corner. A large chart of the night sky has been carefully pinned to a cork board hung on the wall. In the recessed table itself is a new map of an unfamiliar coast, a delicate tracery of lines marring what should have been empty sea. It's dotted with names both too fluid and harsh to be Rokugani in origin.

Uminushi scratches his chin before carefully placing four model miniatures upon the map. After a moment, he nudges one a little further along than the other and glances at the door, waiting for his erstwhile students.

Kotsu enters and offers a bow to the captain. Navigation was something the Dragon needed to learn more about, so here he was...

"Good morning, Yoritomo-taisa."

As lessons are a part of duties, Musasha, again, arrives to learn from the Captain. His mind wasn't as sharp as many samurai, but he'd be damned to Jigoku for eternity before he didn't put an effort forth to learn from those who would be his sensei. He bows politely as he enters, and tries to find a way to not be in the way in the fairly cramped room.

"Captain," he corrects with a chuckle as he looks up, humor in his eyes. "The only people it matters to that I'm taisa aren't on this ship."

Uminushi lifts a hand and points down at the table and the map, "Gather around younglings and let's get to work."

The map room that's where the Capn was! Kaito arrived at the door to the map room a few moments after his attempts at the captain door failed and knocked politely. It would likely be okay to just enter but as soaking wet as he was after a dip in the sea he didn't want to risk damaging the charts.

Not every ship gave you the opportunity to learn something new in such an understanding environment. Nozomi had always been curious about the maps and navigational techniques and was usually too painfully shy to ask about them...

Soft footfalls herald her approach, and she slips in the door quietly bowing to those present. "Oh-haiyo..."

"Come in," the mans calls and stops when Kaito enters. He arches a brow at the dripping Mantis and indicates that he should stay at the door and far away from the precious maps and charts. Uminushi makes his way around the table towards his kinsmen, "So, what's this you've brought me...?"

Kaito had no intention of moving any further then the doorway and when he bows its extremely carefully. "Well Captain I believe it to be some debris from a ship wreck. We spotted the debris on the foredeck and when we reported it to Isawa-gunso he asked us to retrieve a piece of it large enough for you to have a look at." He replied offering the captain the piece of flotsam should he desire it.

Uminushi takes the piece of wood from Kaito, examining it carefully. His hands slide over the carvings and the odd symbols, "Tell him we're looking for a ship from the Ivory Kingdoms and whatever did this. If we spot the wreckage, stop to search for survivors."

The Captain absently runs a hand through his hair, "Watch should be on full alert."

"Hai Captain." Kaito replied with a bow waiting to be dismissed before trotting off to report to the gunso.

He fiddles with the piece of wood, frowning down at it for a moment before moving back to the table. Uminushi casually tosses it on the pile of pillows before clapping his hands together, "Alright my eager little students, we have a small mystery. Let's see if we can't shed any light on it mmm?"

The heavily armored man watches the display silently. As the Captain takes to looking at the charts, he again starts to pay closer attention.

"We are..." he frowns and after a few mental calculations, taps a spot on the map, "Here."

Uminushi fishes a miniature from a box and sets it where he pointed, shifting it a little to the right. He points to the lines on the map, "These are current lines, the closer together they are the stronger the current. Color indicates temperature and arrows indicate direction. Numbers indicate the general rate at which they move. If we're encountering debris, where should the location of the wreck be?"

The Hida looks at the lines and colors and sees lines and colors. He waits to see if there is more there than his mind can piece together.

Nozomi takes a look, silently tracing over the lines with her eyes. Taking a guess the tip of a small finger taps at a spot that seems likely enough. Unfortunately for her, it probably isn't.
