Duties Need Filling (Day 3, Evening)

[Usagi Zenko]

He nods. "Hai. My apologies."

He breathes out. "I'll focus on my duties in battle first. Being new to the sea, I obviously don't know much about ship to ship combat. Most of my training has focused on excelling in dramatic movement upon the battlefield. I wanted to know if there are any known designs for the ships we could possibly run into in the Ivory Kingdoms, should we need to attack or defend ourselves from the pirates you mentioned before, in a boarding action."

He looks to the array of maps a second. "Namely, points of such ships that would be advantageous for us to capture or destroy quickly, before the enemy could prevent it. While I don't know for sure, I have a hunch that not all ships are built the same as the Half Moon.."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Yes and no," he replies with a sense of humor, "Most ships have the same shape with the details being somewhat blurry in regard to their construction. I am not a shipwright, unfortunately, and can't go into any detail regarding its constructions. Nor do we have gaijin ship schematics. They tend to guard those as jealousy as we do. Not so different neh?"

Uminushi cocks his head to the side.

"Besides which, Usagi-san, I think it might behoove you to master the other basics we're teaching before reaching for the stars mmm? You still give the sea funny looks when you think no one is watching."

[Usagi Zenko]

He nods, and then gives a laugh. "Respectfully sama, I give it funny looks when I know people are watching too." He rubs the back of his head somewhat nervously. "But hai, there are plenty of skills to master first."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

Uminushi chuckles and shrugs his shoulders, "I'm trying to be diplomatic. I also appreciate your interest. However, basics are important. I'm sure your senseis have taught you that they are the foundation upon which more advanced lessons are built, neh?"

[Usagi Zenko]

"Hai, very much so. I will continue to endeavor to master them." he nods, and straightening a bit. "But that does bring me to my other question. I'm new to cooking on a ship, although Cook has been of great help and direction in that. With the port coming up...are there any food supplies I should look towards acquiring? Any favorites of yourself or the other officers?"

He gives a thin smile, "Or I suppose, more importantly, anything I should stay away from?"

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"I am also not the quartermaster," he looks more amused than annoyed by the rain of questions. It was obvious the Hare had never been on a ship and that, at least, gave him the benefit of Uminushi's patience. "You'll want to speak with O-washi-san."

[Usagi Zenko]

Crestfallen..."Oh. My apologies." he bows. His forehead wrinkles in thought as he straightens. "Could you perhaps teach me the phrase for, 'Where is the port? I am Rokugani.' In the...what did you call it...Rummal?" he asks, somewhat hopeful that at least one of his questions might have an answer.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Of course," he replies easily, "Though, I'd suggest borrowing one of the Embassy's heimen.

Uminushi shrugs and proceeds to give the Hare the phrase in Rhumaal. The sounds were fluid and unfamiliar, save for the single word "Rokugani". "Alright, repeat it back to me and I'll correct your pronunciation. It would be a shame if you ended up telling them that you were asking for a whore house."

[Usagi Zenko]

"Hai, and I will. More a precaution should we get separated." He nods and attempts his best to repeat the words of the phrase, attempting to force the [url]words out of his mouth[/url]. Rokugani, at least, he handles well.

He attempts it again, to try and remember it.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

The Captain goes through the phrase syllable by syllable, correcting the Hare's pronunciation. He didn't show a hint of temper through the process, taking as long as it needed for the Usagi to at least get it generally right.

[Usagi Zenko]

After a few times of saying unwittingly things like, "Where is the pork? I ate Rokugani."; "Where is your mother? I am Rokugani." and "Where are my pants. I have Rokugani" Zenko finally gets it. "Where is port? I am Rokugani."

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

By the time the Hare was able to repeat the words without mistake, a broad grin was pasted on the Captain's face. Languages were funny things.

[Usagi Zenko]

Zenko smiles in return, thinking his Captain was proud of him for accomplishing at least something.

"Many thanks, Captain-sama. Can I be of any assistance yet this evening, before I go looking for Isawa-sama?"

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

"Nope, I keep things fairly tidy here," he replies with a shrug.

[Usagi Zenko]

He bows again. "I'll make sure there's some kava in the morning then," he pledges, as he backs out to leave.

The man waits until the Hare is gone and pops his back. He gives the door the hairy eyeball and waits for the next trainee to pop his or her head in.
