[Day 3 – Late Afternoon] Improvising (Open)

[Bayushi Hoshi]

First thing entering in, Hoshi attended her devotions to the Fortunes of Strength to pay respects to the practice space. The ship's 'dojo', the armoury was a lot smaller than what she was accustomed for in practice, even for one living in a cramped city. When her warm-ups were complete, she paid no mind to the shelved practice bokken, instead opting for a less conventional weapon of choice, a length of sturdy rope tied to drums from what would make up block and tackle.

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

A most unlikely place to find Qian-Fan in normal day to day life, but this wasn't exactly normal day to day living anymore. He ventured in slowly, bowing to the Bayushi as he murmoured something that could be taken to be a greeting, before moving to examine the practise weapons racks.

Feeling completely out of his comfort zone he eyed up the practise knives, remembering what the Captain and Musasha had said.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi glanced to the direction of the Phoenix and returned the greeting with a polite bow. "Konnichiwa Agasha-san." She said softly but didn't hassle to drag his attention away. He was a stranger to her but she found nothing awkward with the shugenja being here, even if he thought so. Taking the rope in hand, she tried to find her balance with the improvised training weapon.

[Bayushi Kichirou]

He'd only left for a few moments. Kichirou offered a bow to his cousin and the Phoenix before moving further into the Armory and set down to continue his work. The chatty Scorpion adjusted a barrel mostly full of arrows and began working on fashioning more. As he whittles and adjusts a shaft he looks to the two, "Good afternoon to you both Bayushi-san, Agasha-san. Hoping to find something to practice with?" he offers as observation of the obvious.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

She slowed the momentum of her swing properly and greeted her cousin, assuming the question was toward the Phoenix. "Konnichiwa Bayushi-san."

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

A bow to the second Bayushi.

"Musing on which weapon to take up training with. As I have no previous experience with any. I've had some advice already, but any insight you could offer would be appreciated."

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"I have heard the best option to repel boarders is the spear. Its reach gives an advantage in defense of the ship. Of course the katana is the traditional weapon of all Samurai and as such would offer you the best use in life beyond the confines of this or any other ship. The bow is good, it is designed to engage your enemies at considerable range and could be of considerable use against another ship as aligning both boats to board I imagine might take some time. In the end your own two hands might be your most reliable option Agasha-san. After all you can never be sure when an attack will come and you might not always have the time to find an appropriate weapon." Kichirou offers his opinion openly attempting to remember all that he had heard and learned on his brief time aboard, "The choice lies with you Agasha-san, I am partial to the sword and bow but that doesn't mean I am going to limit my options if I can at all expand them."

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

He nodded along to the Scorpion's assessment.

"You are not the first to suggest the yari, but I feel I need a single handed weapon so that I always have a hand free for my scrolls. They are my true offensive weaponry and of most use when repelling boarders."

He stared at the practise weaponry once again.

"I take Isawa-sama's lessons on what happens to steel to heart and have no wish to put my honour through such damage. So of the weaponry, and what little there was, I have with me it leaves only my tanto."

Another smile, shy and rather wan.

"Or, as you said, my own two hands."

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"The knife is good. It is small as you say all are wielded in one hand. Versatile as well, it can be thrown over short distances or obviously used up close. Precision is key with the knife however, it offers very little room for error." Kichirou offers as assessment, "I am not at all acquainted with the combat styles that have use of the knife, though I expect you could find someone aboard who is."

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

Another nod.

"I will have to seek out one who does know how to use a knife then. If you learn of anyone I would be most obliged if you would point them in my direction or vice versa."

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"I will endeavor to inquire with those I meet Agasha-san. It is after all in all our interests to insure our shugenja are protected. Even if that means teaching them to protect themselves." Kichirou says with a smile and a nod.

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

"Do not let me interrupt you if you intended practising with your cousin, Bayushi-san. I think I need some time to decide what I need to do here."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi interjected after a few whirls of her 'weapon'. "Bayushi-san, you're currently on duty are you not?" She asked, implying that she had no intention of taking him away from being helpful.

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"I am as it happens. This is my posting every afternoon. I have also taken to spending a bit of extra time at work here. I am of the opinion that we as a ship can never be too well prepared for conflict after all." Kichirou says with a nod and a smile.

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

Qian-Fan had made it as far as actually picking up a few of the practise knives as if feeling their weight. It looked properly professional for someone who had no clue at all. At least he knew which was the sharp end.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi nodded softly, "Mm. You must be considered popular face around here by your dedication alone. Do you think you'll be pleasantly disappointed?"

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"I have never sought conflict cousin. My sensei always told me to prepare for it at any moment as only in that way would i not be caught off guard." he responds his words sounding for all the world like he was saying them from rote memorization.

"I don't really want commendation....though if it would get the Gunso to yell at me less I wouldn't argue."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi gave a glance to the Agasha for a moment to check if everything was fine, even if that was supposed to be Kichirou's job. "Well. I've heard that her yelling is her way of showing that she cares. Which could be true as there will be less reminders once your off this training ship ne?"

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

The Agasha was still procrastinating with the wooden short blades, now wondering if it was even worth doing anything without someone skilled in knives to teach him.

[Bayushi Kichirou]

"A valid point cousin." Kichirou says with a small smile, "I can readily say that no lesson Moshi-sama has taught so far will I ever forget."

Looking to the Phoenix still standing in the room he look takes on a bit more of a concerned cast, "Agasha-san, I'm not sure who would be a proper teacher for the knife but I hear Crab are versed in all types of weapons. Failing that you could speak with the Gunso. I'm sure either of them would be able to offer some kind of suggestion."
