[Day 2 – Early Evening] On Alert (Open)

by Bayushi Hoshi
After the word of wrecked ships, and any discoveries shared by the group who went out, Hoshi was prompted to go down to the armoury to retrieve out her armour set for future use. It was hardly a hassle to prepare herself, but she was hoping that such an occasion was only because she was needlessly cautious than otherwise. Even wishful positive thinking had a hard time explaining what was found out there...

It seemed a familiar Hare was there, cleaning his daisho, one blade at a time. His armor sat to one side, although it was very similar to that which ashigaru would wear, albeit in a bold red and white color scheme, the mon's of the Hare in appropriate locations.

His head was bent to the work, something similar to or possibly even a prayer in mid-mumbling.

Hoshi gave a glance at the Hare, and not being a person who believed in interrupting prayers or what could be a moment to themselves, returned to the maintenance of her armour until the Hare would take notice of her.

His short blade finished, then re-sheathed and put upon the small daisho stand at his side, Zenko reverently picks up his katana. Either a sound or merely one of his twitches causes him to look about, and on spotting the Bayushi an "Hello Bayushi-sama!" rings out, the Hare standing, bowing, then sitting again in quick order.

Hoshi blinked and glanced upwards from her seat as she heard name being called out, partially feigning that she noticed the Hare for the first time since her arrival. She put a pause to her maintenance and bowed politely in kind. "Oh, good evening Usagi-san. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought to do some work before dinner."

Returning to the Armory with some new bow strings Kichirou blinks a bit at the sudden appearance of samurai in the Armory he'd left empty just a few moments before. Offering them both a bow he doesn't actually show any surprise, "Good evening Bayushi-san, Usagi-san." he says as he moves passed the two and begins to work on some of the bows in the Armory. Time and wear had reduced some of their bow strings to nearly useless and Kichirou had decided he'd let that languish long enough.

"Good evening Bayushi-san. I hope you're doing well." Hoshi returned the greeting to her cousin, her eyes followed him to the bows, good to know what he was doing while assigned here.

"Oh hai. I thought it was about time I gave my daisho some attention. It's been awkward not having it along all the time, no?" he smiles and then stands and bows and sits as another Bayushi entered the room.

This isn't dangerous at all! Nope. Try not to think of the last time the Scorpion surrounded the Hare.

"I am doing well cousin. My posting finds me here most afternoons and nights. Even as unfamiliar as I may be with nautical battle tactics even I can understand the importance of well maintained bows and a well stocked supply of arrows." Kichirou offers before looking to the Hare, "Usagi-san, its nice to find you somewhere safer than up in the rigging." he offers with a smile, "If either of you need any supplies to maintain your weapons or armor I can help you find them."

"Hai, many thanks." he smiles again, and then gets back to work.

"Mm. It explains why I almost never see you. Your offer is much appreciated Bayushi-san, thank you." Hoshi nodded once to Kichirou.

She gave a shrug at the Hare's statement, "Only awkward to the point I don't want my inheritance at the bottom of the ocean Usagi-san...Haven't gotten comfortable to using an oar yet? "

"Of course cousin. If you didn't know already Bayushi Usan shares this duty. He attends to the Armory, specifically the bows and arrows, in the mornings however." Kichirou says with a smile before looking to the Hare, "An oar? I wasn't aware we even....for the skiffs, of course."

Hoshi shrugged openly, allowing the Hare to explain his theory with the oar. "A Bayushi Usan? We haven't had the pleasure to make an acquaintance. There are many cousins on board, I wonder if many will see this as coincidence."

How many of them are there?

He chuckles a little. "Hai, well an oar is something I should be able to find on a ship easily enough, right? So I thought practicing with one might help me prepare for ship on ship combat." he explains to Kichirou.

To Hoshi, in answer to her question, "Not much practice with the oar today. More like a bamboo pole, under Moshi-sama's guidance."

"Oh. You speak of the polearm lessons on deck earlier? They are a weapon of choice when it comes to defending a ground or fortress, in this case the Half Moon is befitting. You may do better with a bamboo pole than an oar, what if it was the same day everyone decided to take the skiffs out? No one will take a bamboo pole for any other reasons at sea."

He nods at that. "Hai, it seems a decent reason." There is a bit of sword polishing.

"Although perhaps the idea of the training was not expressed by myself, regarding the oar. The idea is to be able to pick up something that's on a boat, and use it as a weapon, not so much specifically an oar. Despite my desire to mimic that old duelist in the utilization of said oar."

Hoshi nodded once. "Mm. That spirit has been made clear by you before Usagi-san. Have you made good friends with some of the Crab here? I think at least one of them have that mindset."

"I believe Yasuki Himiko has remarked on a number of occasions the various ways in which she would like to combat her enemies. Almost none of them include what I would consider a traditional weapon. She may be a useful resource if that is the style you wish to adopt." Kichirou interjects, "The oar would be an effective defensive weapon if one found oneself attacked while on the skiff though. I imagine then the dilemma is whether to use the oar for rowing or fighting."

He nods at that. "Oh? Yes, my apologies at the repetition, bit distracted." he gestures to the work he's doing. "Yasuki Himiko, you say?"

"As I understand it yes. I think her particular theory of combat is to use whatever comes to hand. At least as I've heard her describe it."
