[D3:ME- Sickbay] Dinner for Two? (open)

Nozomi had grabbed a bowl of whatever the cook had made for the crew, and another of the thin miso that she'd made for their... guest. Although she knew that O-Washi had probably already tried feeding him some, she knew that the malnutrition and dehydration that could occur when shipwrecked took time to heal, and lots of fluids.

She steps back into the sickbay area, and places her own bowl of food off to the side. Small hands now carefully carry the miso over to the place where the patient had been laying.

"Ano..."

Already sitting up, the man peers at the tiny woman with a cautious gaze. His body is still mostly wrapped in a fresh layer of gauze and it doesn't look like he can do much more than sit up at the moment. But considering he had been mostly dead all day he was doing pretty good. He didn't say anything to her, but he also didn't look completely opposed to her being there, especially as he apparently smelled food from the way he was sniffing at the air.

Only shortly after Nozomi enters the sickbay, Choukichi pokes his head around the corner. Though he is technically still on duty, he doesn't have much trouble justifying a quick visit to the sick bay to himself. Seeing the room mostly unnocupied he slips in to try and see how the gaijin is doing, but stays away so as not to bother Nozomi while she is feeding him.

"Yoritomo-san... I'm g-glad you're here... would you m-mind staying a b-bit?" She doesn't say it, but she obviously doesn't want to have to be alone with the unknown sailor.

Nozomi makes no sudden movements as she approaches the patient. The soup inside the bowl is covers in small ripples, revealing that her hands are shaking. By the time the bowl is extended to the man, even the Mantis can see without too much trouble that she's nervous. Repeating a familiar prayer over and over in her head, she tries to calm the pattering of her heart.

Excited to meet the gaijin, it had never occured to Choukichi that someone might be afraid to do so, but seeing Nozomi's worry he moves to join her. He stands nearby where she can see him, doing his best to look calm and confident.

The man looks from one samurai to the other, with a slightly raised eyebrow, but even he can see this woman is nervous. With a cautious hand he reaches out and takes the soup away from the Shiba before she has a chance to spill it all over the floor. He isn't particularly careful to avoid hand contact however, though he doesn't seem to pay it any attention when their hands touch.

He carefully sets the bowl down between his legs and presses his hands together at chest level, palms facing each other. He nods his head at both of them.

"Namaste"

The small samurai recoils from his touch as though burned, cradling the hand that brushed his against her chest and backing away rather quickly. Having no idea what the phrase means, her pale eyes look to the Mantis to see if he had any idea what the other had said.

"Yoritomo-san... do you kn-know what that m-means?"

Choukichi doesn't flinch or even react at all to the gaijins actions, hoping his own calm might help Nozomi calm down a bit.

"It's a formal greeting. I can speak his language well enough and try to translate for you if you have questions."

Still not sure what sort of state the man is in, Choukichi manages to supress his own desire to question him in favor of letting the doctor do so.

Taking a deep breath, Nozomi begins mentally reciting a familiar litany. "If you c-could ask him how he's f-feeling?"

Allowing familiar thoughts to calm her a bit, she adds, "I'm s-s-sure O-Washi-gunzo already t-took care of m-most of his wounds, b-but it never hurts to d-double check. Some d-difficulties only sh-show up after the w-worst injuries have been h-healed. I'm sure h-he's thirsty, t-t-too..."

Choukichi nods his head then offers the man a polite bow before speaking in rough, but understandable rhuumal.

"Greetings, I am Yoritomo Choukichi, my companion is Shiba Nozomi, a healer. She would like to know how you are feeling?"

The man looks relieved as soon as he hears the familiar speech of Rhuumal coming from the other man. He smiles a bit.

"I am Jayant Utpal. Ward of House Pandavah." He looked over to the small woman and tried to offer her a reassuring smile. "My injuries have been mostly dealt with, though I am still weak from my time stranded at sea, and the battle." The man shifts a little in his cot in discomfort at the memory. "The worst is over I think. I am feeling a little hungry again though."

Choukichi glances over to Nozomi.

"His name is Jayant Utpal, he says his injuries are mostly taken care of, but he still feels weak, and hungry."

The bizarre words feel uncomfortable in her ears, but she nods when she hears the interpretation of the words. "The s-soup will help a l-little, and we can st-start him on something more solid t-tomorrow, I think. D-does he have any allergies to c-certain foods?"

The last thing she needed was to have the man react negatively to something he ate and have him die in her care.

Choukichi nods his head then turns back to Jayant, however when it comes time to speak he frowns and starts muttering words that sound like rhuumal, but are really just gibberish.

"What's the word for allergies...?"

He takes a moment to think it over then starts talking again.

"She says the soup will help and she will try some solid food tommorow when you have regained your strength. Do you have any... Ummm... Is there any food your body does not like?"

He frowns a bit, still trying to figure out the word.

Jayant nodded at that information. Seeming to take the fact that he'd be able to do more than sip at broth soon very well. At the second question his eyebrow raises for a moment and he looks between the two Rokugani before finally answering.

"Anything with spice."

He says, almost completely stone-faced. But he breaks out into a toothy grin pretty quickly and chuckles. The laughing doesn't last long as he winces and clutches his chest a little bit.

When the gaijin winces, Choukichi chuckles.

"I don't know if our cook has the supplies to cook you the kind of food you would like, but we'll be in port soon enough I hope."

The Rhuumali frowns at that. "Good. Excellent. What do you do, Choukichi of House Yoritomo? Are you a Kshatriya? A warrior?" He didn't ask the question of the Shiba. She was clearly just a servant.

Choukichi nods his head.

"Yes, I am a warrior, and a sailor. You are a Kshatriya?"

"Good. We'll need warriors where we're going. I am a Kshatriya, yes. Do you have any Brahmin..." He paused, trying to think of a different word that the Yoritomo might know. "Err, priests? On board? Those who can use Sutras?" He paused, using a word that Choukichi didn't know but that he was pretty sure was a curse word. "Magic. Any who can use magic?"

Nozomi watches the man with a physician's critical eye.

She had been under the impression that the gaijin's injuries had largely been treated, as most of the cuts and wounds had already begun to heal. But wincing and grabbing one's chest for such a simple activity as laughter indicated that there might have been more internal injury than previously believed.
