Peace and Ponies [Moon 18/D3, Early Morning, Open]

Iuchi Rinzuki arrived a bit earlier than usual this morning, and set a small clay pot she was carrying down on the floor, making sure not to spill any of the liquid inside. She then prepared a quick prayer to bless the room, and took the clay pot into her lap as she sat down on the surgery table.

As a small tentacle creeps out from the pot, she reaches down to run her fingers along its length, grinning as the tentacle curls up around her wrist.

Walking in a minute or so after, Narumi bows to the Unicorn. "Good morning, Iuchi-san. I hope you rested well," she says with bright smile.

She notices the bowl and the Unicorn poking her finger into it. "Is that your breakfast?" the Asahina asks curiously.

"Well enough," she says, looking up with a smile. "I caught an octopus last night, and am debating whether to eat it or keep it as a pet."

She holds the clay pot out to Narumi. "I'm rather certain that it's not poisonous, if you would like to hold it."

Narumi looks into the bowl and then looks back up, "Oh, I don't believe they are poisonous either. No such rumors circulated when I've eaten them before." She motions that she is more than fine with not holding the octopus.

"My experience with eating them is that they are chewy with a unique flavor," she continues. "I've never heard of one being kept as a pet. What would you feed it if you were to do so? And where would you store it if it grows larger?"

"I'm not entirely sure," she says, looking down at the pot. "Shiba Nonozomi seemed to know a fair amount about them, so I was hoping to find her sometime later today to ask her advice."

Another tentacle finds its way over the lip of the pot and 'waves' at Narumi. "Oh, I think it likes you."

"A friendly octopus is it?" Narumi says. "Hello there, your lucky you don't understand your predicament and you can just relax," she continues directed at the tentacle."

"Have you decided on a name for him if he is to be a pet? Or will you wait until you make your final decision."

"I think it's better to wait. I wouldn't want to name it if I decide to eat it."

She carefully reaches into her scroll satchel and removes a rolled up piece of parchment.

"On an unrelated note, this is for you, Asahina-san."

"For me?" the Asahina asks.

"What is it?" she wonders out loud.

"I made a copy of my healing prayer," she smiles. "I do not mean any slight against your sensei, but it seems a wise idea to ensure that both of us can call upon the kami to mend serious wounds."

As the spell is being offered in such an informal manner, it seems inappropriate to go through the entirety of the gifting ritual. She smiles back at the Unicorn, "And I am sure that the crew will appreciate having another voice asking the kami to help speed along their healing. I greatly appreciate this. If I had the time before my relocation I would have returned to Shinden Asahina to see about acquiring it myself, and I apologize for inconveniencing you Iuchi-san."

"It is nothing to be concerned about," she says with a shake of her head. "I am sure that you would do the same for me."

The Asahina smiles brightly in response. "I will make sure to study this well," Narumi says, giving it a good glance before rolling it up and putting it into her scroll satchel.

"So have you had octopus before? Iuchi-san?" she says, redirecting back to the topic of her octopus friend.

"No, my family did not have much of an opportunity to eat such foods." She reaches into the clay pot and pulls out the creature, which clings to her hand as its wide eyes oggle the two women. "Honestly, I can't imagine why anyone would see one of these creatures and decide that it was food."

"Likely a hungry fisherman a long time ago," the Asahina says with a grin. She looks at how the tentacles wrap around the Iuchi's hand and chuckles a bit, "...very hungry."

"Luckily for us it was tried, because it can be tasty. I haven't had it as frequently as most Mantis likely have but the Crane get more than a bit of fish from their coastal waters."

"Shinjo-sama said that the Crab enjoy it fried." She turns her hand as the small creature climbs atop it. "Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether or not we can do that aboard this ship."

"I suppose frying something with oil presents a fire hazard more so than baking," Narumi replies. "But perhaps it just isn't done often and they have the materials to do so." She makes her suggestion with a smile and a bit of hope in her voice.

"It's a pity that we don't have spells to fry things, hmm?" Rinzuki looks up from the octopus with a smile. "How did your meeting with Moshi-sama go? I trust that the two of you had a pleasant time?"

"It went well enough. We did our trade and discussed the sources and styles of tobacco," Narumi replies.

"And as for a spell for frying, you might attempt to summon oil with the water or earth kami. I don't know since I've never tried but the water kami, if entreated properly will create tea."

"I'll mention it to Shiba-sama. Perhaps she has some practice on that front."

Turning her hand, Rinzuki allows the octopus to fall back into its clay pot.

"That's good to hear. I hope that she was not overly upset with my rather sudden departure."

"If anything, I think she felt as though she had driven you off or made you feel unwelcome rather than feeling upset herself," Narumi replied.

"I almost forgot!" Narumi says, suddenly remembering something. "I did not read the stars last night, so I need to read the coins this morning."

She digs around in her obi pouch causing a slight jingle as she produces a small handful of coins. "Have you ever read the kawaru coins Iuchi-san?"
