The galley is a small space but cozy, easily the most pleasant place below decks. Ventilation is ensured by decorative but functional copper and class windows and chimneys. There is only one table, a large circular operation that is bolted to the floor. To make the most possible use of the space, the center of the table has been cut out to allow six people to eat from the inside ring, ten along the outside.
The stove is easily the most unusual and out-of-place part of the whole chamber. At first glance, it appears to be some sort of Kaiu war machine or device of torture from a play, for it has been carefully designed of steel and pottery to prevent fire from breaking out on the ship. Despite this, a bucket of water is set quite prominently at the stove's edge, ready for emergencies. Removing this bucket or emptying it for any reason is a punishable offense.
At any given hour, there will always be a ready supply of dried fish, a special cold tea, and raw vegetables available for snacking. Hot meals, being somewhat hazardous to make, are served only twice per day, though those who have skills to do so may use the kitchen at any time provided they clean up after themselves and approve the use of materials with O-washi.
