The often cold and distant second of the Half Moon was down in the galley, getting something to eat. She nods to Cook as she's given the usual bowl of rice, bit of soup and bit of meat. Kaimenko carries her tray over to an empty table and sits down, eating methodically as she reviews the day.

His morning prayers finished, Choukichi heads to the galley for a meal. In his arms is the basket that the ships kittens normally inhabit. Spotting Kaimenko alone he decides that it couldn't hurt to get to know her a bit, or at least probably not more than he can handle. Smilling pleasantly, he resists the urge to make a gesture against bad luch and utter a prayer for Suitengus protection as he moves over to join her, offering a polite bow as he gets close, giving her the chance to wave him away if she doesn't want company.

Choukichi and his basket receives a slightly wary look though she nods at the seat across from her. It was the closest to an invitation he would get and the woman seemed indifferent as to whether or not he would take it.

Choukichi accepts the invitation and takes a seat across from her, setting the basket down beside him. Before starting on his own meal he opens the basket and sets some food inside for the kittens. Then once they start eating, he utters a prayer to Suitengu and begins quietly eating his own meal.

Kaimenko was part way through her meal before she nodded towards the basket, indicating the cats with her chopsticks, "Did you name them?"

Choukichi frowns and shakes his head.
"No, they aren't my cats, the crew have named them though. The feisty one is Thyme, and his brother is Sage."

"Good," came the flat reply before she adds, "At least the Scorpion didn't have a say. Fortune's know what atrocity they would have come up with."

"Oh there were some terrible names floating around that I hear came from them. I dare not repeat them lest I upset them."

Kaimenko gives him an odd look as she finishes her soup, "You speak cat?"

Choukichi takes a few more bites then frowns.
"No, but they can tell when they are being insulted, and I doubt Osano-Wo or Suitengu would cast their blessings on a ship that named their lucky cats something like that."

The Moshi gives her Clansman a rather flat and unreadable look at that particular bit of drivel. "And you're an expert when it comes to the Fortunes."

"Of course not, but every Yoritomo knows that a good ships cat, well treated by its crew earns favor with the sea."
Choukichis speaks with absolute belief in every word he speaks, no matter how silly it might sound, then scritches one of the cats behind the ears and takes a few more bites of his meal.

"How many toes do they have?" she asks as she finishes her bowl of rice.

Choukichi looks up at her and blinks at the odd question.
"Eighteen."

"Cats with more toes are luckier," the shugenja informs Choukichi with a certain amount of indifference.

"Hmmm, I had not heard that before, I will keep it in mind next time I look for cats."
Choukichi nods his head and tucks the bit of information away.

"They grip the deck better, which means they're more suited to the sea," the Moshi clarifies without a hint of mockery.

"Ah, yes of course."
Choukichi nods his head then done his meal, leans over the basket to make sure the kittens are eating their fill.

The Moshi finishes her breakfast and stacks the bowls, pushing away from the table. She picks them up as she stands, moving towards the kitchen, "Don't be late for your duties."
It was about as friendly as the woman got.

"Wouldn't dream of it. Thank you for the company Moshi-sama."
Choukichi bows politely as she leaves, then focuses his attention on the two kittens who have now finished their own meal.
