[Day 3, Mid-Evening, OPEN] Readin'

Hoping to catch up on a bit of sleep, Yakusoku skips dinner and makes her way down into the crew quarters. In the privacy of the women's side of the room she switches into her night clothes and crawls carefully into her hammock. She'd left her pillow book sitting earlier and there it still was; a cheap, tawdry tale of lust and violence. Settling in she finds her spot and begins to read. It'd tire her eyes before long and then it would be off to Yume-do.

Seiko slipped into quarters. She wasn't tired. Not yet.

On seeing Yakusoku, she gave a small bow, torn between curiosity at what the Badger was reading and not disturbing her.

Yakusoku looks up from her story, offering a crooked smile to the Crab woman. "Evenin'," she murmurs, shifting her head side to side and cracking her neck. "Turnin' in early too?"

"I was considering it," Seiko replied honestly. "Although if my decision disturbs your reading, you have but to ask."

After a moment, she blinked and gave the Badger a smile of her own, as if only just realizing that, yes, the other woman was trying to at least appear to be friendly, and that it would be rude not to do likewise.

"Nah, ya ain't distrurbin' nothin," she shrugs. "This 'ere book doesn't require much in the way of concentratin'." Turning the book she shows the cover if only for a moment. "Just a trashy lil' pillow book's all. Meant to pass the time and tire the eyes."

Seiko smiled.

"Well, when you finish that one, let me know. I might have one with me of my own that needs reading."

She paused.

"I don't have much interest in pillow books, but I have to ask... is it any good?"

"I'm likin' it," she shrugs. "Then again, if ya were to ask anyone who really gives a damn about fancy literature, they'd probably say no. It ain't the classiest of books." Shifting in her hammock the Badger sets the pillowbook on her midsection and turns more attention to the Crab. "Ya hafta forgive me, I don't have the best memory on board: have I gotten yer name?"

Seiko paused, then quickly offered a bow of apology.

"Iie. Forgive me. This one is Kaiu Seiko, former crewmate of the turtle-boat Thunder of Osano-Wo."

"Eh, don't worry 'bout it none. Ichiro Yakusoku. Pleased to meet ya," the Badger shifts in her hammock, hoping to stay comfortable while carrying on the conversation. Thunder of Osano-Wo, huh? I served on a few boats comin' outta Clear Water before comin' here. Wherever your clansmen needed an extra hand, really. Never on yer boat though."

Seiko nodded, not too surprised that Yakusoku hadn't served on the Thunder.

"This will be my second naval tour," she admitted. "My interest has been more on building ships than serving on them. At least, until recently."

"Well," she smiles, "glad to have someone who knows their way 'round shipbuildin' on board. I'll admit, for all my time on kobune, I don' know the first thing 'bout buildin'em." Lifting her head some Yakusoku reaches behind it, scratching softly at the back of her neck.

"I spent a lot of my time growing up at my uncle's shipyard. I've loved ships ever since I was a child." She gave a smile at then, then paused. "May I show you something? I haven't shown anyone since I came aboard."

Somehow, she managed to both remain calm and convey the sense of excitement at the same time.
