Day 1, Late Evening/Midnight, OPEN Cleaning before Bed

[Asahina Narumi]

"Oh, landfall. I'd love the opportunity to go for a long walk that wasn't in a circle," Narumi replies.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"Mm, now that it's brought up in our minds, is there a projected landfall in the very near future Isawa-gunso?"

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Water is key." Noboyushi got an approving smile. "There are ways for those not skilled with the kami to glean a small amount of fresh water from the sea but they're usually efforts of last resort. The Moon can go perhaps three weeks without any rain at all, though that would be the outmost extreme. As for landfalls, hai....our destination is the Coral Islands. We won't spend much time there, mind, but it'll be time enough to ease the claustrophobia that a long time aship sometimes causes."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Hmmm, we have enough shugenja aboard to prolong the water issue, and there's rain, but neither provides food or repair materials. Of course, if you lose crew members in battle, the drain on supplies is less...

"I know the Captain's lecture tonight was on navigation, and it mentioned tide and wind, but on average how far is three week's travel on a ship like the Half Moon?" Nobuyoshi asks, curious.

[Rixy]

"Impossible to say. There's just too much variance in wind and tide, both by location and by season." The big man shrugged. "This ship can go up to eleven knots but it's a lot more common to tick along around four or so."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi nods.

Of course with the right shugenja, you could maybe make better speed.... he thinks.

"Thank you for indulging my curiousity, gunso-sama." Nobuyoshi says. "Adding naval elements to battle strategy is an interesting mental exercise."

[Isawa O-Washi]

'Happy to oblige, Nobuyoshi-san. It's my duty, and a pleasure, to teach where I can." He smiled over his cup at the man. "Mind, half of what I teach is bad habits, or so Moshi-sama claims, but at least some of it'll be useful."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi considers the gunso before him.

"I'm certain that a class in courtly etiquette lessons taught by Moshi-gunso would be unique, gunso-sama." he decides upon. After all, there's only so much you can say about the superior of a superior. One cup of sake was not going to hold much shame.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Unique indeed. Good that it's not her calling, eh?" Grinning, he shook his head "A good woman, and a loyal ally, but her tongue's rough as sandpaper."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"Moshi-gunso must surely been a tolerant woman, once, maybe long ago." Hoshi said softly in commentary.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"I couldn't say...she's not one to share her history easily. I'm not sure how much the Captain knows, even, and they've been together a while. All I know is that she cares for her crewmates, though the ways she shows it aren't exactly standard."

The hand not holding his cup slid down to pat his own tailbone, a playful grimace crossing his face. 'I swear, she gave me a weatherwise wound when she cracked my tailbone putting the geta to my ass when I was being maudlin."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi lifted a hand and muffed a light laugh, then held up that hand defensively once she caught herself doing so. "...-Ah, gomenasai Isawa-gunso...but I think I do see your point. Did she not care about you, I'm sure she wouldn't have thought to use so personal of an approach. Some may mistaken that for special attention."

[Isawa O-Washi]

"I don't bite, you know." Her continued caution with him both amused and irritated the big gunso. "Yes, I am your superior officer. Yes, I probably stand higher in the Order than you do on land. So long as we're not in battle, however, I don't really stand on ceremony much. You needn't be so cautious."

[Asahina Narumi]

Narumi, for the most part, listened intently. The others seemed to be having a good time chatting and it was fun to hear the exchanges and see them happy. She had no reason to input anything and was content to sip her sake.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi shook her head. “If I thought you bite, then I would have been a lot more cautious. There are sometimes those few men who find good spirits in everything, until that humour is directed to them. But since you’ve made that clear...I wish I was around to catch that very moment. I’ve yet to catch you and Moshi-gunso in the same room together to sense signs of that...chemistry.” She smirked faintly at the last word.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Just wait until I take a turn teaching bareknuckled brawling on the aftdeck. No doubt her commentary will be most...enlightening." O-washi smiled cheerfully, then took another sip of his sake, the last as it happened. "Ah, me, but I should finish my scribing before it gets so late I make a mess of it. Thank you for the sake, Asahina-san."

Rising, he bowed.

"The company was welcome...don't feel the need to turn in on my account but I've got a task to finish that will take my focus. Have a grand evening, mina-sans."

O-washi left the table then, returning to his own and again taking up brush and ink. Within moments, his face was set into lines of concentration so total it would likely take an uproar to disturb him.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"Thank you for joining us, you've been much enlightening. Work hard Isawa-gunso." Hoshi smiled faintly to the departing Isawa, bowing politely when he took his leave from the table.

[Asahina Narumi]

Narumi smiled and bowed to the man as he was leavin, "You are quite welcome Isawa-gunso, and thank you for your company." She then takes another sip of her sake while she waits for someone else to speak.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

No point to have everyone get quiet all at once. She looked over to the Asahina with the signs of a smile on her lips. "Asahina-san, with the stars returning to the skies, have you revisited your interests in divination?"

[Asahina Narumi]

"Just prior to coming down I did a reading of the stars. They tell me something interesting will happen tomorrow and we are likely to put to use skills we've been practicing."
