Day 2, Late Evening/Midnight, OPEN, Polishing my sword....

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi lifted her cup in a implied toast and took a small sip of the hard liquor. "Mm...I'm not one to take advantage of your generosity Ichiro-san, either way, the morning assignment makes it an obligation for me anyway really. Even if nothing from this morning results to anything, it was good lesson to have us stay on our toes..."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Eh, shochu's best shared with the crew," she shrugs. "And yeah, on our toes is good. Lot can 'appen out 'ere at sea, and 'appen without warnin'. Best to get that into everyone's head real quick-like."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

I wonder how many cups of drink it would take to make Ichiro-san drop all her letters entirely? Nobuyoshi wonders.

Nobuyoshi shrugs.

"There's danger wherever you go in the Empire. The sea's dangers are at least straightforward. Fall into the ocean and you're dead, hit rocks and everyone's dead. Try condensing all the dangers of the capital into a few days training." Nobuyoshi offers.

"Awareness of the dangers is useful, fearing them is not."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi only sighed internally when nobody took the bait on the conversation. She gave a small nod as she tucked some hair behind her ear. "Mm. Only straightforward to the point that you could die." With that, she took another sip of shochu.

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi ponders his fellow Scorpion.

"We're not going to get all maudlin and weepy on shochu, are we?" he asks. "Surely one of us has a more interesting topic?

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi raised a hand to dismiss her earlier statement, "Iie, Iie Bayushi-san. It's not my usually style to think so, I was merely trying to complement your point."

She showed a faint smile. "We do have a landing to look forward too, which can mean solid ground for a few of us. I wonder if that also means some hunting may be involved too."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Weepy? Fuck no," Yakusoku snorts. "Don't get weepy over the facts," she takes another drink then sets her cup aside. Her hand comes to rest at the table, fingers tapping against it dully. Her smile falters some and for a moment she reconsiders the whole 'just one drink' thing.

With Hoshi bringing up the landing the Badger opts to focus on that, turning her attention to the woman once again. "Could mean just that. Not much of a hunter me-self. But could be good for others in the crew. I'll just be lookin' forward to relaxin' at port."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi ponders the idea.

"Has anyone actually said we were stopping at a port?" he asks. "I've just heard about 'landfall' which could mean just stopping somewhere you can run a skiff out to for supplies."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"I was merely told that it was just that, a stop." She shrugged. "But the optimistic attitude of the ashigaru here has me doubting that it'll be a brief glance of an island. Either gunso will at least take this time to teach us how to make a proper landing. We would make for poor sailors if they taught us how to get on a ship but never leave it."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Eh, port or just landin', either way's a nice change," Yakusoku pipes in with a shrug. "Packed a bunch for trips ashore so I hope we'll be makin' a few. Like sailin' at all but can't be spendin' all my time cooped up on this here boat."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"So you've come prepared." She smiled faintly. "While the idea is to relax, I think it's also to not get too comfortable by the time the anchor is roped back up."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Didn't know if any of our work would take us into nasty terrain," she shrugs. "Figured it was best to pack for that. Couldn't bring everything I wanted but I got enough to get by if we need to rough it."

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"I will certainly keep you in mind if we ever need to travel inland Ichiro-san. In the best circumstances, I don't think they'll send us out with only the clothes on our backs. Have you stayed in the wilderness often?"

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Back home we had to stay in the mountains now and again as part of our trainin'. I'm no expert on it but I know a few tricks for survivin'. Since then, those kinda trips have been rare."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

A small smile plays behind Nobuyoshi's mask.

"Did such training include dealing with wild animals, Ichiro-san?" he asks offhandedly.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"We dealt with whatever came our way Bayushi-san. Never led to me bein' much of a hunter or anything, but we saw our share of beasts." Her smile tugs a bit more at the corner of her mouth, the woman's dark eyes turning to her shochu bottle.

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Nobuyoshi nods, though whether it's the badger's words, or where she's looking, it's hard to tell.

"Any tips for dealing with wild beasts when it's not practical simply to kill them, Ichiro-san? he asks.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"I caught a cougar once...but I couldn't keep it. Your experience would be most enlightening." She smiled sheepishly as she made for a reach on the eyed bottle. "I will pour if you wish for another cup Ichiro-san."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Nah, I'm good. But help yerself," she pushes the bottle towards Hoshi and sets her own cup aside.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi shook her head with an abashed smile, "I'm fine too, thank you." With that, she finished the remainder of her cup.

"But I am curious to hear what beasts you've encountered before."
