[Day 2, Dawn] Greeting the Sun - OPEN

[Moshi Kaimenko]

Kaimenko didn't sleep a lot and her day always began an hour before dawn. Despite that, she didn't feel as if her day had really begun until the Sun crested the horizon, bathing the ship in warmth and light. As with most dawns, the Moshi was found on the aftdeck, eyes closed and hands pressed together in prayer after finishing her sun salutations.

She was turned towards the east, a small incense burner wafting the scent of sandalwood across the deck. Her eyes were closed as she gave thanks for another day and another dawn. She asked for patience and guidance, though it would shock none that she made no prayers for others to see her in a kindly light. Friendship was the furthest thing from the woman's mind.

Once the shugenja had welcomed the return of the Sun in her own way, her hands lift to briefly press to her forehead, her lips and her heart before she bows shallowly. Kaimenko opens her eyes and ...

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

...No doubt saw one of the ship's early risers meandering out onto the deck. Dressed in her sleeveless shirt and trousers Yakusoku adjusts her headband and takes a moment to rub a bit of sleep from her eyes. Stopping and stretching, the Badger looks up toward the sun with a smile before really ever turning her attention to what's going on on the deck. When she sees Kaimenko she offers a quick, proper bow, blinking the rest of the dreariness from her eyes.

"G'mornin' Moshi-sama," she offers raising from the bow and offering a crooked half-smile.

[Moshi Kaimenko]

"You can stop with the bowing," the woman replies in a flat voice, "If it offends your delicate sensibilities, salute and say whatever it is that's on your mind."

She bends to check the incense in its burner and finishes with a terse, "Good morning. Have you eaten?"

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Ain't got no 'delicate sensibilities', sama. But as you say," she speaks in a confident tone, hand moving to scratch at the back of her neck. "Nah, not quite yet. How 'bout you?"

[Moshi Kaimenko]

"No, Cook is probably still thumping around the kitchen getting things ready," she replies gruffly with a fluid shrug of her shoulders. "Maybe someone caught something yesterday to add variety."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"Would be nice. Ain't never had a talent for fishin' myself," she too offers a bit of a shrug glancing out onto the water. "How's yer bit of the trainin' comin' along? Been caught up in Isawa-sama's lessons myself so I haven't been able to make it over."

[Asahina Masamichi]

Confident smile behind his (gorgeous) well groomed moustache, Masamichi carries a bucket of water and one of various containers of oils, soaps and cleaning tools and a few clean cloths over his shoulders. He gives both the Gunso and Badger a respectful bow as best he can under his load and proceeds over to his first ballista, setting down his extra equipment and goes about setting it out for a efficent use.

[Rixy]

Following behind and scowling even more heavily than usual came the heimen known to most as Chuckles, his arms crossed over his massive chest. He bowed to all the samurai, deeply and with careful respect, but said nothing.

[Moshi Kaimenko]

Her dark eyes narrow as she spots the Crane with the face rat heading for her ballista. She doesn't remark on the man's activities as she straightens. Once more the woman shrugs, "You lot are no more foolish than any other."

[Asahina Masamichi]

Pleased that Chuckles was timely, as "requested", Masamichi got to work, dissasembling the parts of the ballista he needs to get at the parts needing cleaning, before removing it and giving it a thurough scrubbing, to remove and rust it may have, bringing as pristine a shine as possible for the metal to hold and then reassemble the whole thing again, making sure the inner areas are free of any signs of rot or evil sneaky little barnicles that couldn't be seen from the outside.

It was soon clear to Chuckles this was going to be a long day. But he was also not asked to do anything either.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"'Spose that's good," she chuckles dryly. "Seems to me that those who don't know the ropes are wantin' to learn. Though the alternative ain't that great, I 'spose. Ya seen a few trainee groups come and go Moshi-sama?"

[Rixy]

The heimen, who hated to be bored, sighed to himself as he settled in to watch the Crane work. His fingers twitched now and then as he watched the work in process, a subconscious gesture when something could be done more efficiently.

[Asahina Masamichi]

Noticing a few sighs and being one accustomed to pay attentioned to the muted feelings of hemin on board, Masamichi pauses as works, to ask Chuckles "I believe Moshi-Gunso-Sama wishes you to give me your feedback, so please feel free. You're also welcome to help if you wish, but you're certainly free to use the time to relax. Who normally keeps these clean and calibrated?"

[Rixy]

"O-Moshi-gunso." Chuckles glanced a little nervously at the volatile Mantis. "Treats 'em almost like children, she does." Unable to contain himself in the face of ineffieciency, the man burst out, "An' you're doin' that bit of the polishin' there the hard way. Look here, now, if'n you need to take a speck of rust off you need to use a bit of grit on the rag to make it come off faster..."

[Moshi Kaimenko]

She kept an eye on the Crane and the heimen, eyes narrowing briefly as the man started to man-handle her weapons. The corner of her lips lifts but she refrains from saying a thing as her arms cross. "Aye, I've served with the Captain for over three years now... we've been at for the past-"

Kaimenko trails off as the Asahina and Chuckles stop to play patsy.

"... two years."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku's gaze follows Kaimenko's and she eyes the two men, and the ballista, curiously. "An Asahina workin' the ballista?" she snorts. "'Spose it takes all kinds."

[Moshi Kaimenko]

The woman grits her teeth and mutters, "Aye... and I'll have him doing latrine duty if damages one of them..."

It didn't seem like an idle threat.

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

Yakusoku chuckles. "Wouldn't make that mistake again. No lesson better than havin' to do eta work for such a fuck-up." For a moment the Badger considers calling out to the Asahina; telling him to be careful. But nah. Knowing her luck that's when he would screw up and she'd be stuck cleaning with him.

[Moshi Kaimenko]

"I'd rather he not fuck up in the first place," she frowns, "It means our life..."

[Ichiro Yakusoku]

"You and me both," she murmurs, watching the Crane a bit more intently now. She'd never learned much about ballista but she knew they were indeed that important. "Its why I stay away from'em. Never learned to work one proper-like. More suited to swinging a sword, I 'spose."
