[Day 1, Early Evening] Stars in Their Multitude

[Usagi Zenko]

Zenko decided early into this practice to strive for the best he could do. And in reaching for the stars....failed to find them. The numerous furtive looks towards the ocean perhaps distracted him from his goal.

[Akodo Jishaku]

The Lion was also keen to do his best and quickly got to work with an intense look of concentration. After a time it became clear that his work was of good quality, Jishaku had obviously been persuaded of the practicality of the task. "And that one goes there... I think I'm finished Captain."

[One raise called, TN25, rolled 31]

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Having failed to bring the desired perfection to his chart, Fuichi wordlessly passed his finished product to the captain.

[Asahina Narumi]

There is a smile of confidence and excitement on Narumi's face as she gets her tablet. She goes to work at a steady pace, ensuring that not a star was out of place. She had, after all, spent a great portion of her life staring at the stars and studying constellations in scrolls and books. It takes her a few moments after the Akodo to finish up due to how meticulous she was being. She quietly and deferentially offers the Captain her tablet, "Captain, it should be accurate."

[ Two Raises, TN 30, Success ]

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

Uminushi walked amongst his students, watching them work and examining the product of his lessons. He crouches down by the Hare, examining his work. A finger moves in to the Hare's view as the Captain taps out what was written on the wax tablet, "This is good here and here, but I think you got distracted with the rest. If it helps use your thumb as a measure to gauge the distance between each constellation. Some of the names are wrong as well."

The Mantis looks up as the Lion speaks and takes the tablet from him. He looks it over beneath the light of the moon and nods with satisfaction, "Well done Akodo-san, I'm glad I wasn't too long-winded."

Fuichi and Narumi's tablets were examined next, the first receiving an arched brow and the second an approving nod.

"Well done Asahina-san... I see you have a good deal of familiarity with star charts Here," he shuffles over to make space and indicates the Hare, "Why don't you help him re-do his hmm?"

His blue eyes turn to Fuichi, amusement in their depths, "And I appreciate the artistry of your take Daidoji-san, perhaps Akodo-san can help with the accuracy?"

[Asahina Narumi]

"Of course Captain," Narumi replied.

Se moved closer to the Hare, "Good evening, Usagi-san. Let's see what you have." She smiles pleasantly as she waits for the hare to share his work.

[Daidoji Fuichi]

Fuichi frowned, not quite seeing the humor in the situation. If only he could set aside detail...but that had always been his problem, even in his art.

[Hida Musasha]

Musasha actually showed he was trying his best. The lesson was just beyond his ability to understand. He hands over his wax tablet to the captain, unashamed of his failure, sure he had done his best.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

Uminushi takes the slate from the Crab and looks over the dots and characters. He nods as he holds it back out to Musasha, "A good first try. I think a few repetitions regarding the names will do you good. They're mostly in the proper places."

[Akodo Jishaku]

The Mantis looks up as the Lion speaks and takes the tablet from him. He looks it over beneath the light of the moon and nods with satisfaction, "Well done Akodo-san, I'm glad I wasn't too long-winded."

His blue eyes turn to Fuichi, amusement in their depths, "And I appreciate the artistry of your take Daidoji-san, perhaps Akodo-san can help with the accuracy?"

Pleased with his efforts Jishaku grins at the Captain. At the suggestion he help the Crane he nods and moves over to Sea Swallow. "If I may, Daidoji-san? Perhaps focus on this part first and then add the other detail later...like so?"

[Daidoji Fuichi]

"Your assistance is appreciated, Akodo-san," Fuichi murmured.

[Usagi Zenko]

"Of course Captain," Narumi replied.

Se moved closer to the Hare, "Good evening, Usagi-san. Let's see what you have." She smiles pleasantly as she waits for the hare to share his work.

Zenko nods at the captain's words, putting his thumb up against the sky in places to get a better feel for the distances between things. "Oh, hello Asahina-sama." He shows her his work. "I'm afraid I misplaced a few..."

[Shiba Nozomi]

Nozomi's attempt is adequate, but not spectacular. One star cluster she has changed her mind on more than once before committing it to the wax, but she seems relatively certain her final decision was the right one. Relative to what is a decent question, though.

She glances a few more times from her tablet to the sky and back again before handing her tablet back to the Captain.

[Rolled a 33, no raises.]

[Asahina Narumi]

"You have a small number that are placed a bit too far southeast," she says, checking the Usagi's work. "The spacing on those caused a slight distortion that is putting a few others off by a bit. If you moved these together just a little it should clear up space for most of the misplaced items."

[Usagi Zenko]

"Ahh, that explains it. I thought it was just difficult to put the sky down on this..." he nods in thanks and then gets to work.

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

Curious to see how much of the Captain's lecture took, Nobuyoshi takes one of the tablets and tries to fill it in.

Bayushi's easy to fill in, as are his neighbors but getting too far from there, Nobuyoshi's not too certain about the relative locations of the others. Their names sure, but not their position. Rather than leave the rest of the tablet blank, he punches in some other stars, that if one were to draw lines connecting them would spell out the kanji for 'Please consult the captain for additional directions.'

[Hida Musasha]

Musasha nods and redoes his tablet a few times to try to learn a bit more from doing so.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

The man rises from beside the Crab to further circulate amongst his students. He stops beside the Bayushi a moment, watching the man 'work'. Uminushi arches a brow as the Scorpion starts to make patterns with his stylus. He crouches down and moves a hand in to Nobuyoshi's line of sight, "Let's see what you have there, Bayushi-san."

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

The man rises from beside the Crab to further circulate amongst his students. He stops beside the Bayushi a moment, watching the man 'work'. Uminushi arches a brow as the Scorpion starts to make patterns with his stylus. He crouches down and moves a hand in to Nobuyoshi's line of sight, "Let's see what you have there, Bayushi-san."

With a shrug, Nobuyoshi surrenders his tablet to the Captain. A decent rendering of Bayushi and his neighbors, and either several new star systems, or perhaps a message from the Heavens themselves, depending on one's point of view.

[Yoritomo Uminushi]

He rubs his chin as he stares down at the 'new' stars. Uminushi arches a brow and looks down at the Scorpion, "Bayushi-san, are you actually interested in learning navigation...?"
