I Spy with my Little Eye (Late Morning 2-Open)

[Yoritomo Kaito]

Piece spotted the Mantis glances towards the Isawa as he speaks. "I should be fine to swim to it Isawa-san." He says after a moment. "If you could toss some rope to me after I've got it though I'd appreciate it." He finishes before diving into the water and making his way towards the piece of flotsam.

[Isawa Junpei]

Meanwhile Junpei set about finding some rope, the first stop was to ask the gunso, "Isawa-gunso, where do they keep the extra rope when not in use?"

[Isawa O-Washi]

"Crated below, mostly, but you'll find at least two lengths stored below each of the masts in case some of the rigging rope snaps."

O-washi led his Cousin to the foremast and showed him the proper marking on the crate, a clever little mon of twisted cord that even the illiterate members of the crew couldn't mistake. "Just be sure to dry it before you put it back or else it'll get all rotted through and be worse than useless."

[Isawa Junpei]

"You'll probably have to tell me how to do that properly without getting in anyone's way, after I'm done." Junpei opened the crate and pulled out a length of woven rope. Slinging it over his shoulder, he closed the crate and was off to follow the Mantis, his robed form easily catching up given the speed of his flight.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Nodding, the gunso trailed behind, keeping his eyes carefully on the sea.

Where ships had failed, men died. Where there was death, there were those creatures eager to feast upon it and he wouldn't permit any such creature to come upon his crew unawares if he could help it.

[Yoritomo Kaito]

Piece of drift wood found and secured Kaito floated casually in the water waiting for the rope to arrive. Spotting the phoniex flying over head he nodded once in greeting. "Just toss me the end Isawa-san I can tie it around myself well enough. You'll likely have to help pull me on board after that though can't climb right while carrying this board."

[Isawa Junpei]

The tensai just nodded, unslinging the rope and draping one end into the sea nearby. Dropping as close to the water as he dared, he tried to give the Mantis as much or as little slack as he needed. Meanwhile he tried to use what he could to create a tied sling that would make it easier to pull Kaito back to the ship.

[Yoritomo Kaito]

Kaito grabbed the end of the rope as it was lowered to him and went about the business of typing the rope about himself a task made slightly harder by the fact he was swimming and trying not to loose the piece of flotsom he had grabbed. Still he managed and glanced up towards the bird above him. "Ready when you are Isawa-san."

[Isawa O-Washi]

Without pause, O-washi stepped up to help with the hauling, fairly sure he'd more pull in him than slender Junpei.

[Isawa Junpei]

It wasn't so much his weight as his lack of leverage that made pulling a difficult task. Still, he tried his darnedest, hauling the Mantis, who was hopefully paddling, back to the ship. Then, passing the rope off to his burlier cousin he helped in any other way that he could, even if it was more or less keeping the rope from falling back into the sea.

[Yoritomo Kaito]

Kaito helped as best he could to get himself back on the ship and after a few minutes of effort was hauled onto the deck. "Ain't nothin like a bit of a swim to make sure ya aren't still asleep." He said with a grin as he produced the piece of wreckage for the gunso's to look over. "One piece of flotsam recovered gunso."

[Isawa O-Washi]

O-washi, who wasn't in the slightest bit crafty, turned the thing over in his hands a bit a little bemusedly and then nodded and handed it back. "Why don't you take this to the Captain while I show these other lads how to go about drying ropes without running a risk some other poor fool will get himself all tangled up in it?"

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"Hai gunso." The mantis replied and bowing politely ran off to do just that flotsam in hand.

Hikaru watches the wood be retrieved and then stands by for O-Washi's lesson in rope.

[Isawa Junpei]

Junpei watched Kaito leave, dripping wet from the ocean reminding himself of just how different life was aboard a ship. On land you would never address your captain in such a bedraggled state, but practicality superseded presentation, and good thing too. So, he turned his thoughts and attention to the gunso awaiting his lesson.

[Isawa O-Washi]

Distraction was good and so O-washi put on a broad grin, resolutely not watching the Yoritomo go. "So, drying line. It's actually quite simple and you have a few options. Option the first..." He held up one finger. "On warm dry days, you coil it neat-like on deck and just remember to come by and uncoil and recoil it later, flipped. It's less practical but simplest. Option the second..." Another finger extended. "...is to run it up an empty block when the ship's not running at full sail, letting the wind dry it. That way requires a bit of mucking about in the rigging but once set you can leave it until you've got time to take it down or you need another sail to go up. Option the last..." Oddly, the big man didn't raise either the third or fourth fingers but just took his hand down, "You can prop a boat oar on two crates and loop the rope in loose coils over that, letting it drip dry rather like you do your wash."

[Isawa Junpei]

"What would you recommend for a day like today, Isawa-gunso?" It was a simple and straightforward question, possibly displaying a lack of ingenuity on the young tensai's part, but it was better to ask then to guess.

[Isawa O-Washi]

"The last option. What with what you've just found and all, having rope easily available is no bad thing."

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Hikrau nods as he commits those techniques to memory. They are were efficient and simple.

[Isawa Junpei]

Another nod and Junpei was off to do as he'd been told. Headed to the boathouse, he went alongside to grab one of the oars held racked their. Taking one down, he looked to either side of himself to make sure he wouldn't inadvertently smack someone overboard. Floating with as much haste as he could, he tried to find a crate to place it on, preferably not one for rope. Setting it down, he headed for the damp rope, "Ikoma-san, do you think you could help me with this?"
