Seeking Advantage (Day 2 Late Morning Open)

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi followed his gaze before returning her attention to him. "Other than procuring additional shifts maybe. How is the afternoon crew getting along?"

[Toritaka Punchiru]

"Quite well. We have been swapping tales of naval history and legend mostly. Akodo Jishaku-sama has told us much of a battle in which the famous Deathless fought."

Punchiru gathers his courtesy for the question.

"Are there other notable individuals on your shift?"

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"Oh? It sounds like the afternoon crew is the livelier shift if you've been graced with such entertainment. As for us, we had little to go on save for Yoritomo-san's grand reveal of his boasted talents in cooking. And Akodo Amuro-san shares duties with me. Otherwise, everyone seems focused on their duties..." She glanced back for a moment. "No exception this morning."

[Toritaka Punchiru]

"Such focus is a good sign I think. It shows that each of you knows your duty. Our frivolity stems from my Crab nature. Camaraderie is important in difficult situations, but in less urgent matters it can become a distraction."

[Akodo Amuro]

As if speaking of the devil himself Amuro appears from the other side of the wheel house, and moves about the deck checking ropes and railing and generally trying to stay busy. He did have both his swords at his side today as he moved about seeming to be a bit more on alert. He made no distinct move toward the conversation, but gave a short and small wave of greeting from the distance to them.

[Toritaka Punchiru]

Punchiru returns the wave with a bow and a shout.

"Hail and well met-samurai-sama!"

[Akodo Amuro]

Amuro just gives the Toritaka a thousand yard stare from across the way for a long moment, before shugging it off and going back to work.

[Toritaka Punchiru]

"Hmm...do you know that man well, Bayushi-sama?"

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"You're saying that the second shift is prepared for urgency then?" Hoshi greeted Amuro with a polite bow. "Mm...Only as well as anyone else on this ship Toritaka-san. That would be Akodo Amuro-san. Conversation isn't his strongest suite."

[Toritaka Punchiru]

"Well, not as much as I would like, but in such situations we may have the slightest of edges. However, until that happens your shift will be the most efficient. All in all, the approach of the morning shift is probably best for the moment."

I should extract myself from this line of conversation...

[Bayushi Hoshi]

"That's good that at least one has an edge instead of both shifts to be dull...Personally, I'd rather do well while we're in terrible shape rather than do well otherwise. Best for the moment isn't enough, I'm sure your peers in your Clan would agree. I don't doubt we'll be able to pull together when the time comes."

[Toritaka Punchiru]

"Indeed, Bayushi-sama."

Punchiru continues to loiter.

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Mm... "Good Toritaka-san. I'll be here if anything else is needed."

[Yoritomo Kaito]

Kaito come's trotting over to the group of hands a few moments after his return on deck. "Akodo-san, Bayushi-san." He said giving a nod of recognition to the Toritaka but going about his duty first. "The Captain but the watch on alert and the Gunso said I should tell the two of you to keep your eye's open for potential threats or a ship wreck. You to know what you are looking for?"

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Hoshi turned her back to that she wasn't recognizing the Toritaka for a moment, showing a bit of discretion on involvement. "Mm. Anything that's out of the ordinary easily enough Yoritomo-san."

[Toritaka Punchiru]

Punchiru waits dutifully for more important maters to be resolved.

I hope he is a good fisherman...

[Yoritomo Kaito]

"More or less Bayushi-san figured as a guard you'd know well enough but orders are orders." Turning towards the Toritaka he flashed a smile.

"Toritaka-san was there something ya needed? I think I heard ya call for me earlier."

[Toritaka Punchiru]

"Actually, I wanted to pursue a negotiation."

Punchiru folds his hands and begins.

"To put it simply, I am a competent sailor on this vessel and little else. I own a fishing net, but I do not properly know how to use one. This lack of utility puts me at a disadvantage. However, you are known to be both a skilled cook and an well-regarded fisherman. Therefore I propose this deal: I will cover your work shift from late morning to mid afternoon, and in exchange you will provide half your catch during those hours, properly prepared to myself or persons of my choosing. What do you say?"

[Yoritomo Kaito]

The mantis paused to think about that for a few moments. "We'll Toritaka-san that sounds fair enough though I think it will have to be another day. Not tomorrow either on account that it's going to rain. You think you might be interested is trading the day following or perhaps a bit later in our journey?"

[Bayushi Hoshi]

Still here, Hoshi interjected. "I'm curious Yoritomo-san, how many recipes do you know if you're going to make a...business...with your talents here? Isn't slicing a fish open at the moment of the catch and presenting it over considered a dish from your lands?"

She gave glance to the Toritaka after she planted that idea.
