About this boat...

Once the sun has set, how do we manage to see within the boat? Or even during the day, given the lack of windows on the boat.

I'm assuming that we don't have electricity or lit lanterns hanging from the walls, so are we just supposed to carry paper lanterns around? That seems a bit dangerous...

Good question!

Storm lanterns, almost exclusively These are tiny oil lamps suspended in larger glass tubes in turn housed in metal cages, all of which was meant to keep them from breaking. They are often hung up in the hold but can be carried about as well.

On deck, there is only the guide lamps at the back of the boat...no other light is provided as it ruins the night vision of the watch/scouts. You can, however, bring some along.

What are the specifics for bathing? I'm assuming there's a curtain, but do we have one large tub, multiple little tubs just large enough to park our bottoms in, something else?

Good question, as I guessed it was only little ones with conservative water use in mind but GM clarification would be good.

I was likewise assuming something small, enough water to scrub a bit and rinse off if you're careful. A soak seems quite a luxury. Enjoy it when ashore.

I'll admit, I'm seeing scenes of shaving with saltwater and thinking that has to hurt. Salt in shaving nicks and cuts...ouch.

I've been assuming there's about 2 or so large-ish "buckets" there, with plugged holes in the bottom to drain them out. Y'know the type that you can get at a gardening place that's made of wood and sometimes people make into fountains? *searches for a picture*

I've personally been grinning whenever I see Musasha using seawater to wash himself in. ^^ Having spent enough time by the sea IRL, you won't exactly get "clean" with saltwater... you'll feel slightly cleaner for a few minutes... and that's about it, imo. ^^

Not that I think Musasha cares too much about his personal hygiene, being a Crabby man and all.

Well the seawater will at least wash away some stink and sweat...still leaving you covered in salt. So there's that benefit. Between the sun and the harshness of saltwater, there's a reason longtime sailors have skin like leather.

Sayuri just covers the sparseness of real baths with perfume...cheap, cheap perfume.

She's probably not the only one thankful when pleasant weather lets her sleep on the deck instead of cramped in her berth.

I think Musasha has been just shaving rather than bathing, more to keep the manly stubble under control than to get to any major scrubbing. Which, with saltwater... sounds painful. c.c

I am also incredibly amused by the idea that anyone thinks they'll be getting warm baths. Unless there's a way to do solar heating, that water is going to be cold cold cold because burning wood to heat water seems unlikely, especially since even the cookstove has all sorts of precautions to guard against fire.

Actually, scrubbing with salt is not painful in and of itself. Salt scrubs are trendy, even; though those are blended with oil to offset the massively drying salt.

Just painful in any open cuts, etc.

Kiyo alternates baths with swims and rainshowers when the weather permits.

Fuichi has never bathed in his life. The Air kami simply refuse to carry his stench.
