Don't forget the Panda Clan's dedication to polygmy. They've been known to accept very little in the way of a dowry, even a food cart, or an order of fish and pickles.

I think I'm one of the few rarity who actually like having an expansionist Empire...My issue is that it actually doesn't feel foreign enough but more like the clans have been given a new piece of land that just happens to be outside of the Empire's borders. There's no interaction or conflict with the natives (as of yet), new world samurai vs old world samurai, and the evil snake men are likely going to gloss over that from happening. It's still early to say. If not, maybe next arc?

Expansionist Rokugan could only really feasibly work if they had a policy of just killing anyone and everyone who lived in the lands before-hand. And obliterated all signs of previous inhabitants. What's the point in keeping around relics of non-human entities? They're not half-people, like heimin, not scum like eta, not even animals, with a place in Chikushido... they're out of the Celestial Order entirely.

I mean *really*. Gaijin aren't even as good at eta. That's saying something.

Nothing against Rokugan expanding. It's something I find interesting myself.

I just dislike that it's being done by sending tainted Shock Troopers. D: What a way to give a first impression of the new overlords...

Gaijin, eh, if Rokugan is going to colonize, I like to think of them as how the original Kami must've thought about mankind when they came to Ningen-Do. Crude, uncivilized and barbaric, but we will show them the proper way. They just need to know the truth and their place in the Celestial Order, after all... even Yoritomo Singh managed to do that.

I dunno... even those of the samurai caste in Rokugan are not the Kami, and it's assuming that one has the abilities of a god when one assumes that one can do what the Kami could: give the heathens a place in the celestial order. Believing that a common samurai could do such a thing is a little... blasphemous.

As a note: I am arguing this from what I see as a very Rokugani viewpoint. As a person, I kinda sit back on the stories and read up on them later, once they've built some momentum or shown some reasoning. And usually try not to have an opinion one way or another.

That's what we have the Empress for. After all, she's infallible, and her word is certainly enough to turn a peasant into a samurai, (Toku) or turn a mortal into a fortune. To actually bring them into the celestial order, they'd have to put aside their false gods and accept Fortune worship. They'd also have to stop (or at least cut back) on doing spiritually unclean things. If they can manage that, and are permitted to swear fealty, then congratz, you have a brand new member of the celestial order. Heck, it can even been done for less as the Unicorn didn't come back to the Empire horribly inbred

Hmmm. A samurai can sleep with a peasant, and she can have a kid. The samurai can recognize the kid as a samurai (either bring him into the clan (unlikely) or as a ronin) If a samurai produces a kid via gaijin, could they recognize the result as a samurai?
