[Iuchi Rinzuki]

Though she lacks the heart-stopping beauty of a Crane or the dangerous allure of a Scorpion, there are few would deny that Iuchi Rinzuki possesses a beauty all her own. Perhaps it is a hint of the exotic blood that flows through her veins, or the influence of the kami that dance around her, or just the confident yet submissive way that she carries herself. Whatever the reason, Rinzuki rarely fails to draw favorable glances from the peasants and samurai that she passes.

As a shugenja of the Baraunghar, Rinzuki is no stranger to combat, though she carries no weapons beyond the wakizashi at her waist. Her kimono and scroll satchel are both in line with the latest fashions of the capital, and the jewelry adorning her wrists, fingers, and arms only serves to enhance the overall effect of her wardrobe. In short, Rinzuki does not appear to be the sort of woman who would leave the capital for any extended period of time, let alone the type to up and join the Imperial Navy.

Qulan is a bit taller than average. Lean is another word to describe her. With her dark hair usually loosely tied back, she is almost the archetypal Shinjo. But her mother's heritage shines through, giving her a bit more of a 'soft' appearance. She doesn't use too much make-up, for she prefers to keep things rather simple.

Her clothes are a bit simple and practical, surprising for someone who is well-off as she is. Of course, she is a bushi, so she'd prefer the practical. One thing she actually cares about is smelling at least somewhat nice, she carries jasmine-scented perfume with her where ever she goes.

[Iuchi Xiao Hua]

Curious and contemplative, the young Iuchi walks on the deck with the ease of a seasoned seafarer, smiling as he gazes to the horizon. Lithe and well groomed, Xiao Hua looks well the part he plays, namely that of a priest, and a merchant patron. Generally friendly and non-judgemental, the wayfaring shugenja gets well along with most of the crew, including the non-samurai members.

The outfit the young man wears is simple, consisting of durable, yet comfortable high quality clothes, designed for ease of travelling. Preferring to leave his blade below the decks, Xiao Hua carries a four feet wooden staff with him, when the situation allows it. When off duty, the man can be most commonly either spotted on the deck, gazing at the horizon, or below decks, laying on his bunk, reading.

[Shiba Naomi]

Shiba Naomi is a pleasant woman. While not exactly beautiful, she is calm and friendly towards most she encounter, and eagerly chats with new people. She is a bit on the plump side even when she keeps up with her training regiment, and is considered more comely than pretty.

The little Shiba seems familiar with the workings of a ship and the sea-faring life, and is always ready to lend a hand on the ship, be it in the kitchen, on deck or providing knowledge of the Phoenix coastline.

[Agasha Qian-Fan]

At first sight many take Qian-Fan to be a woman and a very attractive one at that, but a closer look dispels that assumption. The shoulders are too broad for a female, the manner and bearing are just about male. It is only once he speaks that you become certain as the voice is most definitely male. Quiet, yet male. His long hair is habitually unbound and allowed to flow down his firey coloured clothing. A book is never far from his reach or already in hand, ready to read the moment he has free time.

He is quiet for the most part, keeping his eyes down. A sense of sadness surrounds him as he floats through life. This changes in an instant once his twin callings of healing and war are required. Then he becomes all efficiency and matter of fact, wether it be healing the sick and injured or calling down the wrath of the kami on his enemies. Only with these two tasks does he truly come alive.

[Shiba Nozomi]

Most would consider the appearance of the tiny Phoenix... disconcerting, to say the least. With her sun-kissed skin and off-colored hair she’s definitely not the traditional Rokugani model of beauty. Add to it Nozomi’s odd shortness and the milkiness of her eyes, and you’ve got a combination that makes most a little uneasy.

The Shiba lacks any of the accoutrement that one would traditionally expect from those in her family, and instead wears simple clothing, no armor or weapons. Her shoulder-length hair is usually pulled back in a loose foxtail, and she wears no adornment save for one simple gold chain with a small opal pendant. Her demeanor is usually quiet, tending towards shyness.

[Akodo Jishaku]

Description
Jishaku is a well-built, not unattractive, soldier of the Lion armies. While he maintains the somewhat haughty disposition of one who comes from a long proud tradition of being a better samurai than you, his personality is somewhat tempered by an unusual love of the sea and wry sense of humour. He is perhaps more approachable than his brethren, and less quick to anger, although once battle is sounded there can be no doubt as to his origin.

Hida Sayuri is, forgive the cliché, a mountain of a woman, unfashionably sun-browned and marked with the scars of her trade. When not armored, her sturdy clothing hangs with a surprisingly well-made fit and delicacy for the coarse fabrics; handiwork likely to only be appreciated by those with a tailor’s eye, though anyone might notice the disconcerting grace they lend her. Her swords seem oddly small at her hip, children’s toys beside the mass of her tetsubo or delicate adornments compared to the solid sandals or massive armor she goes to battle in.

All of this could be terrifyingly intimidating were the woman not usually seen with a welcoming grin of utter cheer that gleams all the way to her storm-dark eyes.

[Hida Musasha]

This man never seems to smile, nor does he ever seem to frown. His face remains passive and unmarred by emotions. Musasha keeps his hair cropped short and his chin smooth, though by the end of the day, stubble darkens most of his face. The man wears only the hauberk of his armor when off duty, but the full suit, without a helm, when on. Tied tightly into his obi is a simple katana and wakizashi set, and they are further secured into place with a few well placed knotted strings to keep the blades from falling out of their saya while moving around the deck. More notably, there is a tetsubo loosely strapped across the small of his back, out of his way, but easily within reach at any time.



If one watches him for any length of time, while his appearance is that of a gorilla, his movements give the observer the image of one of the great cats on the prowl. He moves with grace and rarely finds it difficult to find a way to get from one place to another, often without ever touching foot on the deck of the ship.

[Yasuki Himiko]

At base appearance, Yasuki Himiko seems like a less than likely student of the Kobo Ichi-Kai techniques. Where most are known to be gruff in appearance, she has somehow managed to maintain a delicate looking face, with a slender body that seems to just conform to what most would consider rokugani beauty. Her hair is not tied back in the traditional maiden's foxtail, but nor does she wear the conservative style of a married woman. Instead, her hair is tied with a small pony tail to keep excess away from her face, and the rest is allowed to move where it may. Adding to this, while on the ship she wears only the most basic of clothing. Chest wraps, a hakama, and tightly woven sandals are all that the young bushi wear, a practice that would leave most honorable samurai feeling scandalized. In addition, her katana and wakizashi do not typically rest at her hip, instead sitting on a daisho rack in the cabin, The only weapon she seems to carry is a single parangu strapped to her right hip, presumably for cutting rope.

Naturally, when one gets the chance to speak with Himiko, any notion that she is anything but a crab swiftly drains away. Himiko is confident, loud, and boisterous. She favors blunt, straightforward speech and lewd tales to the more subtle, courtly speech of her namesake. If there is one thing that can never be disputed, it is the fact that first and foremost, Yasuki Himiko is a product of her training.

[Bayushi Nobuyoshi]

The first thing one would notice, unsurprisingly, about a Scorpion is their mask. Nobuyoshi's is a full face ceramic mask, painted black with red lines painted from the corners of the eyes and the mouth. The mask leaves holes for the eyes and mouth, so Nobuyoshi need not remove it save for cleaning, which tends to be the case. His eyes are somewhat hard to make out, blending in with the black of the mask and rarely making eye contact. He keeps his black hair close cropped, and overall seems to be in good shape, his build and movement suggesting elegance rather than hardiness.

He wears the red and black of the Scorpion clan, his armor showing mons of allegiance to the Scorpion clan, and the Bayushi family. He carries a daisho, yumi, and light armor, making his profession fairly easy to guess.

His voice is somewhat flat and soft-spoken on most occasions. Personality-wise he's quiet and serious, and tends to let others do the talking. He's not tongue-tied, and easily keeps up the pace in any interesting conversations, but he tends to not be the focus of the conversation, preferring to let others be the center of attention.

He really comes alive in a fight, his skill with the sword obvious, and true students of the sword may in fact note he affects a particular distinctive style when fighting.

Appearance:

If a woman could manage to look scruffy, Amaya would be doing an appreciable job of it. She is never so filthy as an eta, but the faint lingering odor of sea salt and just a bit of grime under her fingernails gives her a slightly off-putting appearance. The woman has only the bare bit of softness that one expects in a woman, her tomboyish frame being more built from the stock of one who has spent much of her life in hard labor. These features are not helped by the countless scars all over her body, or the particularly nasty claw marks along the right side of her throat or the large and jagged scar dominating the left side of her face, running in a broad and nasty pucker from just beneath her eye to her jawline beside her lips. Short, stocky and calloused, she retains a demure and diminutive posture in the company of her betters, bowing quickly and deeply. She dresses in cheap, simple cloth that is basically an almost colorless drab when it isn't feastday, preferring clothes that suit function rather than appearance. Her voice has a throaty, slightly raspy quality most of the time.

[Isawa Junpei]

Isawa Junpei is a thin, bony young man with little substance to him thanks to his lifetime of study in the libraries of the Phoenix. Such physical shortcomings, however, are often covered up by his loose robes that only appear voluminous because of the waif beneath them. Almost always dressed in long sleeves and an elaborate set of cords set about his waist, his garb is rarely still, instead rustling in an unseen, though often felt, wind that move about his person. His hair, usually tied hastily into a simple mare's tail, appears an afterthought meant more to keep it out of the way then make any sort of attempt at kemptness. This is made all the clearer when he takes to the air, his hair whipping wildly and his robes swirling out around him as he's buoyed on the winds.

[Kitsuki Kotsu]

Kitsuki Kotsu is a lean young man who seems at home on the sea. His mismatched eyes make it hard for some to look at him directly, but he doesn't mind. It does nothing to change that piercing gaze of histhat seems to be analyzing everything. When he speaks, his tone of voice is calm and collected, even if the subject is unpleasant.

[Asahina Masamichi]

Skin tanned and toughened by wind and sun and muscles corded from working on the sea for years, he cuts a wizened and imposing figure, more like a bandit than a Crane. Often forsaking a top or just a loose jacket to protect from the sun, mon's of the Asahina and Daidoji play out on his obi. A small utility knife, a small high quality comb and a set of nunchaku are stuffed in an uncerimonious but functional way into that obi. His hair is dark and cut quite short, on deck covered with a straw hat. None of that is really as interesting as his impressive, much beloved, moustache.

[Yoritomo Choukichi]

From a distance, Choukichi is hard to tell apart from any other Yoritomo sailor. His body is lean and athletic and bears all the signs of a life spent on the open sea and his skin is tan and weathered. The loose sleeveless clothing he wears display tatoos of Osano-Wo and Suitengu on either shoulder and show the scars of someone who has seen at least a few battles. Only upon getting closer does he begin to stand out, while the tatoos on his shoulders are common enough, the remainder of his arms are covered with symbols that some might recognize as those used to ward against evil spirits and bad luck, as well as whole prayers to Suitengu. Peeking out from the rest of his clothing is more of the same symbols, though none go up further than his neck. Choukichi keeps his hair cut fairly short so that he never needs to worry about it getting in the way, and dresses like every other sailor in cotton pants and a sleeveless top, his feet normally bare and his daisho almost never present. Around his neck hangs two pieces of charred looking wood, a finger of jade and one wooden ofuda with a prayer to Suitengu carved on it.

Choukichi seems friendly enough at a glance, almost always in a good mood and smilling and his voice is not quite so loud and rough as expected from his familly, but no matter how good a mood he appears to be in, his eyes are always darting around trying to take in everything as if he expected something to jump him at any given moment.

[Ikoma Hikaru]

Most people pride themselves on being 1 on a kind. However even though Rokugan views twins in a negative light, Hikaru was proud to be just that. As cousin of current Ikoma Damiyo, Hikaru and his brother Karou lived a life of privilege. However that all changed after the death of Ikoma Karou in the War of Dark Fire. Hikaru became even more introspective than normal. Rarely leaving the comforts of his families apartments in Kyuden Ikoma. It is not known why a Kuge of Hikaru's status and breeding is suddenly in the Imperial Navy, especially with out a commission. Perhaps it is a start to a new life. A new life as one and not two......

[Yoritomo Kaito]

A sailor born Kaito appears perhaps a few years older then his 19 years his skin well tanned and weathered by years of constant exposure to the elements. His arms visible from under the sleeveless tops he wears bear many small scars evidence of the battles he has seen in the past. His garments are in general the norm for many of the other experienced sailors among the mantis at least and much like them he tends to go barefoot on ship.

His black hair is kept short most times and he shaves when givens the chance which is not always that often on the ship unless there has been a recent rain. His eye's the grey of a approaching storm hit at a intelligence that doesn't quite fit with his appearance or his somewhat lackadaisical attitude.

[Bayushi Kichirou]

Kichirou looks as young as he is. Still unaccustomed to even the idea of life at sea he also looks about as lost as he can be. What skin he does bare to the sun is pale and unblemished devoid of tan or scar or any kind of embellishment that might tell a story. Still wearing his armor on board he stands out a bit from the experienced sailors to be sure.

In typical Scorpion fashion his features, though not spectacular aren't bad. His eyes are sharp taking in as much information as he can and his black hair is kept short any styling it might have had lost to the winds and rain.
