Just thought I'd pop back in and answer relevant questions about Himiko. Ultimately, I discovered that I'm not yet comfortable enough in my college lifestyle to support a pbp game simultaneously with a major that relies heavily on doing stuff out of class and working on projects. Regardless, here you go!

The young Crab Himiko was always an enigma among the Yasuki. She never showed the standard social graces held by her cousins. Even her parents couldn't keep her riled in to prepare for the stage in her life when she would join the Yasuki Courtiers. Though, admittedly, Himiko never really cared. The young woman was far more enamored with the story of Yasuki Fumoki. The infamous Crab pirate’s legendary exploits fascinated Himiko, and she long envisioned the opportunity to serve on a ship, protecting the crab sea borders from whatever threats may lie. Unfortunately, her innate beauty made her a clear choice for the school of the Yasuki.

Himiko’s time in the Yasuki school was… brief. She was an unruly child who never quite took to the subtler ways of the courts. She constantly frustrated her teachers with her refusal to conform, and after the third time she had gotten into a fight with another student (and she will be proud to say she won, thank you very much), she was removed from the school. Her parents, ever the pragmatists, chose to push her on a path more suited to her abilities; the school of Kobo Ichi-Kai. The famous pragmatists were glad to take such a fiery young woman under their wing, and she took to the school like a carp in water.

Once she passed her gempukku, she was stationed on the northern border of the crab, shortly before the Third Yasuki war. Her timing, in her mind at least, was impeccable. During the day, she would fight the armies of the Crane, showing her fists to be every bit as good as any form of steel. When night fell, her voice would do the work, regaling her Crab brothers with stories of the legendary pirate Fumoki… even those who didn’t care to hear it.

Shortly after the conflict ended at Iweko I’s request, Himiko was reassigned to duty on the wall. She found duty there to be relatively boring, as the creatures of the Shadowlands just didn’t provide that martial challenge that she enjoyed. She also began to lose hope that she would ever realize her dream of fighting on the sea… until she received her appointment to the Ninth Legion, and noted the fact that her appointment would put her on a ship called the Half Moon. With renewed vigor and a great deal of enthusiasm, Himiko gathered her things and immediately set out to meet with the crew, ready to make her mark on the see just as Fumoki did.

She was fun. And that is an awesome compulsion.

Thanks. Since most of my concepts (Tsukami, Sojuro, Tsisuko, etc.) have been either dour or scorpion or both, I decided to play a character who was just *fun*. I really wish I could have gotten to actually get into a fight playing her. The idea of jumping overboard with an enemy and holding their faces in the sea til bubbles stopped coming up was one I was hoping to pull off all game, and I care not for how terribly impractical it would have been.

It's a shame that RL ate up your time. I was honestly waiting for a time for Himiko to recount the tales of Yasuki Fumoki to Hoshi, only so she could earn an awkward look from her then go: "Wait. Your idol is a dreaded pirate outlaw...Why are you in the Imperial Navy?"

And that would have been a great conversation

I liked reading Himiko's scenes a lot. I thought she was a great character! Who did she get along most with on ship?

Hrmm... probably Sayuri or Yakusoku. Himiko thought they were kind of like kindred spirits, and she enjoyed all of her conversations with them.

Basically, she got along with all the plain spoken characters, though. People like Rinzuki and Nobuyoshi were the closest things to people she didn't like, and even then it was usually just casual indifference more than actual malice.

Himiko was jealous of Musasha, and wanted to prove that she was better than him. This was largely because he got to be on a ship that was on the Sea of Shadow. If there ever was going to be a love interest for Himiko, it likely would have ended up being Musasha or Jishaku, mainly because they were the ones who were closest (among PCs) to Fumoki. Maybe one of the Yoritomo.

As an aside, I'm sad that I never got a scene with the Captain. It would have been fantastic to have played Himiko in stuttering school girl mode (Our illustrious captain struck me as very much like what stories of Yasuki Fumoki would have been like, which would have made Himiko really giddy)

Of all the people that I wanted to have Seiko met but didn't, I think Himiko was the biggest. I was really looking forward to it, and the Oni-no-RL found out that you didn't have enough jade available and... well... yes.
