Poor Qian-Fan not getting to use a single Fire spell. So, what is the biggest lesson he's going to take away from his time in Lanka?

Oh yes, he loved those heffelumps. :D

I asked Elonweis several times if we had room in the hold for the baby one. Leave the gaijin to burn, but rescue the elephants!

That he should have set fire to the gaijin ship from range and let it explode without any loss of Rokugani life. :P

Or more seriously, that the tales of Phoenix researching and falling to the darkness is all too true. He will be vigilant for such things now and may even lean towards the Inquisitors when his time in the Legions ends.

And yes . . . all those burny spells he had and not one of them cast, but I always had healing spells queued first in my ghosting instructions and nukes second.

Weirdest part of your background that you didn't get to share, if anything?

Wierdest bit?

Probably that his mother was an absolute headcase. Several of his elder siblings died in infancy so she was ultra protective of little Qi (his pre gempukku name). Enough that she basically kept him alone in a room until he was schooling age and then had to be restrained and sent to a remote temple 'for her health' or she wasn't even going to let him go.

Hence his detached mien and fear of making emotional connections.

Oh yeah, to top things off his mother committed suicide just before the War of Dark Fire and pretty much blamed Qian-Fan in her madness.

So, was it more than just a lust for Musasha's body? :P

Well Qian-Fan was very impressed with what he could see . . . and then Musasha started talking and that pretty much cooled it all down. The obtuse would have been a big problem for Qian-Fan so he started looking at the other man mountain and got beaten to the punch by the Crane man whore. Not that he would have ever actually acted out on his Desire. He was a properly repressed Rokugani in that regard.

So I take it Qian-Fan was pretty much gay, no interest in the women?

Yup. He'll still get married when ordered to though. Can't let the precious Phoenix shugenja bloodlines die out.

Didn't react well when Sugita showed 'interest'. He might be offended by that.

Probably not.

Any particular thoughts about Seiko?

The events of just before Sugita's 'interest' had scrambled his brain at the time. He probably didn't even notice.

I think they could have become quite good friends eventually. Both the detached and distant type and both having dificulties with Desire. Also they would have absolutely bonded on blowing gaijin ships out of the water. :D

Reciprocal thoughts question on Fuichi.

Fuichi oh Fuichi. At first I thought Qian-Fan and Fuichi would be the best of friends, after all there was that promise of tea sometime after they met in the sick bay, but the differences began to appear and they would be too much to overcome.

First off, Qian-Fan really does avoid close friendships. His past history with his insane mother meant he desperately avoids forming bonds until he's known the other for a long time.

Secondly, Qian-Fan is not a pacifist and was having troubles with Fuichi's views on Dageki, but he kept them to himself.

Then came Hurricane Junpei and another fundamental disagreement. Yes Qian-Fan was harsh on Junpei, but he felt it entirely necessary. Innocent investigations have led to fallen Phoenix in the past and it needed to be ended now. If Qian-Fan's initial advice to the Captain had been taken then Junpei would have been executed before he could be handed over to the Lankans. Had this been done then they would have missed out on the information the lessons would have given. Hence Qian-Fan's presence at the lesson. Not as Fuichi thought to oversee Junpei's punishment, but rather to share it as atonement for almost losing the Rokugani this chance to learn how to defeat a possible enemy.

And of course, the major disagreement between them - O-Washi. Any chance of the two being friends disappeared with the drunken 'Can I join you?' line. A total indiscretion going against everything Qian-Fan believed in. Just hearing it said was enough to scandalise, never mind it being directed at the man Qian-Fan was growing to like very much. Any offer to 'share' as you hinted in your thread would have caused a small explosion and a lecture on proper manners and discretion. Yeah . . . to a Crane. :P

In all Qian-Fan thought Fuichi to be an all too pretty, naive, flirt of a man whore. :D
